This paper aims to analyze the influences of the socio-cultural environment on discourse in translation. To illustrate a deep connection between discourses and societies in which they were produced, communicative patterns of high- and low-context cultures are examined. Though the original version of the translated text comes from a different culture, the translation reflects communicative preferences of the target culture. To uncover some of these preferences, a comparative study of two translations from Russian into English and from English into Russian is conducted. This study, together with further investigation of some more recent translations into Russian, revealed a number of choices affected by translators' cultural background (for example, making the translation more emotionally charged) and current ideological preferences in the society (excessive use of anglicisms).

This study investigated and compared the brand personality of domestically run family restaurants with quick service restaurants. Information was elicited from respective patrons using self-administered questionnaires which asked questions on recognizable brand characteristic and attributes of each restaurant through image maps. Data from the self-administrated questionnaires were collected and analysed using comparative statistical analysis, including frequency, t-test, chi-square, factor analysis, reliability analysis and correspondence analysis. Overall, patrons identified 5 factors which they used to rank individual restaurants; sophistication, competence, likeableness, trendiness, and ruggedness. Overall results showed the family restaurants that scored highly on likeableness and trendiness were Outback and TGIF. Furthermore, Vips was the only family restaurants that scored highly in ruggedness. In relation to quick service restaurants, Lotteria scored highest for competence while McDonalds and Burger King scored best for sophistication. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.

This study is about the Korean Jockey's uniform, etc. and horse riding costume as the traditional riding culture grows. I studied informations from the Korea Racing Association's equestrian park, equine museum and Seoul Racecourse Trainers & Jockey's Association. The international regulations of riding costume are compared with Korean regulations, and I consulted some reference books, materials of sports wear and catalogues of some brands regarding horse equipment. The contents includes ; 1. Analysis of informations about horse racing 2. Study of racing, for detail comparative analysis on the following aspects ; -Symbolism, riding costume of jockey, that is, color·pattern·and some formal designs. 3. Suggestion for reasonable and fashionable riding costumes. In the aspects of design, there have not been any historical records, and material adjustments about riding costume in Korea. Therefore we should make more efforts to do developing our traditional costume culture. The result o this study is as follows ; 1. Riding is the sport of etiquette and manners. 2. Most of riding wears are the casual wear centered foreign licenced brands. 3. Study and investment upon specialized material development and processing technology are in demand 4. The need of the consumers are to be satisfied by the quality improvement of the native products design. In addition, we perform to horse racing which is fine play and leisure sports in current society. The horse riding will be a popular sports such as golf, wind surfing, skiing, etc. with the period including lots of kinds of leisure.

The purpose of this thesis, therefore, is to examine the shaping methods and the knitting drafts of sleeve cap in the knitwears which are currently used by the manufacturers; to study the curve forms of sleeves in knitwears by analyzing synthetically the results of investigating the problems of knit wear sleeves; to present the most suitable sleeve cap for the knitwears. As the studying methods, I collected the basic data from the working-level persons of knit wear manufacturers, examined the knitting draft in the knitwears, and from that, made three kinds of comparative experimental garments and one kind of research experimental one as 10G and 16G. In doing so, I showed the sleeve cap suitable for the knitwears with plain stitch after operating sensual evaluation with Liker's 5-point rating measure. The analysis of data was handled with statistics by using SPSS Ver. 12.0; the method of statistics was executed by Frequency Analysis, Trust Analysis, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan test according to each topic of the research. As the result of the sensual evaluation of the experimental garments produced from the study, the research experimental garment looks better than the comparative experimental one in both 10G and l6G; has less extra folds around the front part of sleeve cap; looks more natural in sleeve caps of the body part and of a sleeve. From this, I am able to figure out that the research experimental garment looks better than the comparative experimental one produced by knit wear manufacturers. In addition, I can come to know that the different knitting of the front line and the back one of armhole in the knitwears has a favorable impact on improving the appearance of a sleeve.

As digital mobile technology has advanced, vertical videos have emerged as a prominent format in the contemporary media field, presenting a new visual language that challenges traditional horizontal-centric aesthetic norms. This study delves into the visual and structural parallels and distinctions between traditional East Asian Hanging scrolls and contemporary vertical videos by applying traditional spatial composition techniques such as the 'Three Distances', 'One River, Two Banks', 'Intended Blank', and 'Unity of Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting' to the creation of modern vertical videos. Through this comparative analysis, the research examines how vertical layouts enhance depth and layering of the screen, deepen emotional expression, and offer creators new avenues for expression. By juxtaposing the spatial compositions of traditional East Asian Hanging scrolls with those prevalent in today's digital vertical videos, this study seeks to uncover new visual languages and aesthetic values within the evolving media field.

Maritime police recognize that the organizational culture of various acting as a member of the organization. Also, marine policing and security activities to determine the number of build. The overall culture of maritime police who share the organization sub-culture may take place. Maritime police organizational culture and a variety of types of group culture, hierarchical culture, development culture, rational culture examined the differences in perceptions. Maritime police aware of the general results of the analysis are as follows; First, the maritime police officers of the age group of 20 was the highest recognition in hierarchy culture and rational culture. Second, the maritime police officers of the rank of captain was the highest recognition in development culture and rational culture. Third, differences in the perception of organizational culture by recruitment analysis show the difference in cultural groups showed, in particular, the special recruitment group of police officers, and maritime police culture can be seen tend to appear low.

The study is aimed to analyse social and cultural background and to compare the changes of the cosmetic culture in Korea and the western countries accompanied by the developemnt os the cosmetic industry in the 20th century. The cosmetic culture of Korea has kept on changing adopting the new western style make up, These changes were very closely related with the current sociocultural environments and the developments of the cosmetic industry. The analysis and comparison of Korean cosmetic culture and that of Western countries can be summarized as following: Fistly the cosmetic culture of korea came out after Korean War through the improt of western movies. Secondly at the beginning of accommodation of the western concept of beauty the standards of beauty were confused with that of traditional make up. Thirdly in terms of the history of costumes in the western cosmetic culture the trend was feminine and curve lineal style in the 1910s straight and young style in the 1920s Young elegant curve lineal style and straight-line style replaced among themselves in every 10 years and the cycle became more rapid after the 1970s and there were diversity in the cosmetic culture affected by the postmodernism Fourthly the cosmetic culture of :total fashion" was taken into consideration. Fifthly the cosmetic culture of "total fashion" was taken into consideration. fifthly the make up of Korean and that of western countries are not only a way to express of aesthetic desire for beauty but sanitary management and it is a kind of an expansion of value for management for an inner self. Now is the time to refuse the attitude of accommodation of the western cosmetic culture without any consideration. We need to rediscover our traditional cosmetic culture and cultural distinctiveness and try to mix them with the western cosmetic culture in order to develop our own peculiar style which will be able to Korean design remain in the international stage and grow further.d grow further.

How to improve the cell culture method on scaffolds is important in the tissue engineering fileld. In this study, we optimized seeding and culture methods to vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) on biodegradable polymer scaffold. The primary culture of VSMCs obtained from canine external jugular vein was accomplished by applying the explant-derived method. The primary cultured VSMCs were seeded into scaffolds and then cultured by using various different methods; static or dynamic seeding, static or dynamic culture. The difference in proliferative response of VSMCs was analyzed with an alamar blue assay. Cell-polymer construct was examined by histochemical method and scanning electron microscopy. Mesh type scaffold ($10 \times 10 \times0.4 mm$) was made of polyglycolic acid (PGA) suture thread. The PGA mesh type scaffold was 45% in porosity, and 0.03 g in weight. The primary cultured VSMCs were confirmed with immunohistochemical staining using monoclonal anti-$\alpha$-smooth muscle actin. The density and distribution of proliferated VSMCs within the scaffold and cellular adherence on the surface of the scaffold showed better results in the static seeding condition than in the dynamic condition. Under the same condition of seeding method as the static condition, the dynamic culture condition showed enhanced proliferation rates of the VSMCs when compared to the static culture condition. In conclusion, to improve the VSMCs proliferation in vitro, static seeding is better than the dynamic condition. In the culture condition, however, culture under the dynamic status is better than the static condition. This was a pilot study to manufacture artificial vascular vessel by tissue engineering.

This study reviews critical literatures regarding Asian cinema, focusing on studies of Japanese cinema, to show that Western scholarship on non-Western national cinemas have been divided into two approaches: traditionalism and modernism. It argues that such a division is not merely a critical tendency but indicative of the fact that a national cinema is an internally divided construct. To support the point, this study examines Chinese film studies conducted by Chinese film critics and the history of South Korean cinema during the 1970s and 80s. Then, it proposes the hegemony model to theorize the inner structure of national cinema. It finally suggests the possibility of comparative film study that the national cinema thesis may activate.

This study is to examine whether elementary science textbooks in Korea and Singapore are applicable to flipped learning. By comparative study we sought to identifying appropriate features of science textbooks for learner-centered teaching. We analyzed text pages on the unit of 'Working of electricity' in Korean elementary science textbook for sixth grade and three chapters of 'Electric circuits, Using electricity, Conductors of electricity' in Singaporean elementary textbook, 'Science : My pals are here!'. We designed evaluating frameworks for science textbooks based on the four pillars of flipped learning. and applied it to 10 elementary teachers evaluate two textbooks. They evaluated textbooks with Likert Scale items and wrote detailed statements and exemplars about their choices. We analyzed the teachers' evaluative descriptions inductively and chose commonly mentioned characteristics. Based on the analysis, we got to the conclusion about specific features of two elementary science textbooks in terms of flexible environment, learning culture, intentional contents, and teachers' expertises. Implications for improving science textbooks towards flipped learning and learner-centered teaching through comparative study were discussed.
