  • Because consumers tend to have negative opinion about a company that neglects social issues like poverty or pollution while it focuses on its own profit, a lot of companies have invested their resources in Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR). CSR has merits of image improving and profit gaining, on the other hand, it has also many shortcomings. First, the cost of CSR may become a heavy financial burden. Specifically, CSR tends to be implemented by a company's unilateral backup, and then this may impose a heavy burden on the company. Second, one cannot expect effects of CSR in a short-term. Because of these shortcomings, the unilateral CSR has gone into alteration of the type of CSR since 1980's. Instead of unilaterality, Cause-Related Marketing(CRM) began to be used for mutual profits among company, consumers, and society. That is, CRM has become to be spotlighted as a new type of CSR. It focuses on partnership between a company and consumers based on cause and mutual profit pursuing through this partnership. So, many contemporary companies prefer CRM activities that derive their positive corporate image, that increase their sales, and that reduce their financial cost. The IBM Matching Grants Program, which is the largest of the IBM-Employee partnership programs, is a typical CRM. This program enables employees and retirees to increase the value of their donations to educational institutions, hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, and cultural & environmental organizations with a matching gift from IBM. Hundreds of educational institutions and thousands of nonprofit organizations have benefited from the contributions by IBM. There might be various types of matching grants. For example, an employee might choose a lump-sum expense or partitioning a lump-sum into a series of small ongoing expenses for his (or her) donation, and a firm might match the employee's total contribution with a lump-sum expense or might match the employee's total contribution with a series of small ongoing expenses. However, it is not easy to find an academic research on which type of matching grant is preferred by employees. This paper shows that an employee prefers the type of matching grants that consists of a lump-sum expense for his (or her) contribution and a series of small ongoing expenses for a firm's contribution [or the type of matching grants that consists of a series of small ongoing expenses for an employee's contribution and a lump-sum expense for a firm's contribution] to the other types of matching grants.

  • As more companies become interested in global markets, it has become crucial for firms to create globalized brands whose positioning, advertising strategy, personality, looks, and feel are consistent across nations. The purpose of this study is to investigate the global branding strategy of the Hyundai Motor Company (hereafter HMC) in order to show how the company processes its branding strategy. HMC, one of the leading global companies in the automobile industry, set up its brand identity as "Modern premium", in alignment with their new slogan "New Thinking New Possibilities", in 2011. The aim of the "Modern premium" concept was to provide consumers with new experiences and values beyond their expectations. HMC wanted their consumers to think of their cars as not only a medium of transportation but as a life space, where they can share experiences alongside HMC. In an effort to conduct consumer research in 5 different nations, HMC selected "brilliant" as a key communication concept. The word "brilliant" expresses the functional, experiential, and emotional dimensions of HMC. HMC furthermore chose "live brilliant" as a key campaign message in order to reinforce their communication concept. After this decision, the "live brilliant" campaign was exhibited through major broadcast channels around the world. The campaign was the company's first worldwide brand campaign, where a single message was applied to all major markets, with the goal of building up a consistent image as a global brand. This global branding strategy is worth examining due to its significant contribution to growth generation in the global market. Overall, the 'live brilliant' global brand campaign not only improved HMC's reputation image-wise, with the 'Modern Premium' conceptualization of the brand as 'simple', 'creative' and 'caring', but also improved the consumer's familiarity, preference and purchase intention of HMC. In fact, the "live brilliant" campaign was a successful campaign which increased HMC's brand value. Notably, HMC's brand value increased continuously and reached 9 billion US dollars in 2013, leading it to reach 43rd place in the Global Brand Rankings according to the brand consulting group Interbrand. Its brand value largely surpassed that of Nissan (65th) and Chevrolet (89th) in 2013. While it is true that the global branding strategy of HMC involved higher risks, it was highly successful according to cross-nation consumer research. Therefore, this paper concludes that the global branding strategy of HMC made a positive impact on its performance. We further suggest HMC to combine its successful marketing with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and embrace digital media by extending its brand communication horizon to the mobile internet

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the symbolic meaning which is immanent in the children´s clothing advertisement text. For the purpose of this research, this study used the semiotic method which are in parallel. Namely, rearranged the R. Barthes´theory and S. Chapman's analysing frame in order to decode meaning which is immanent in the advertisement text, and 1 coded children's clothing advertisement according to the market fractionation cause (age. sex and brand image), and analysed the paradigmatic meaning and socio-cultural meaning- As a result, to carry on the effective children's clothing advertisements. the discriminate paradigmatic system which corresponds with the concept of company brand and the quality of the target consumer should be selected, and the purchaser volition considering desire of target consumer's self image and brand image should be made. Futhermore it should be the social-cultural product reflecting a phenomenon in the social-cultural actual condition. • In order for the corporation to get a good image from the customers it should consider several variables, but especially important are corproate ethics and customer satisfaction through quality improvement. Standard multivariate data analysis can be applied to find out the importance of customer satisfaction and corporate ethics as influence factors in the corporate competitive strategy. When applying this Methodology, multivariate normal distributions density function and the identical covariance between groups assumptions have to be satisfied. By using the evaluation result from a small number of specialists in an attempt to decide on the strategical factors that will create a better company image than its competitor, if it chooses to use statistical discriminant analysis method, it would be difficult to satisfy the two assumptions mentioned above. This thesis introduces discriminant analysis method that uses LP/GP effectively which is applicable to this particular situation.

  • As the 4th industry has been widely distributed, there is a need for a process of real-time image recognition in various fields such as identification of company employees, security maintenance, and development of military weapons. Therefore, in this paper, we will propose an algorithm that effectively recognizes a test object by comparing it with the DB model. The proposed object recognition system first expresses the outline of the test object as a set of vertices with the distances of predefined length or more. Then, the degree of matching of the structures of the two objects is calculated by examining the distances to the outline of the DB model from the vertices constituting the test object. Because the proposed recognition algorithm uses the outline of the object, the recognition process is easy to understand, simple to implement, and a satisfactory recognition result is obtained.

  • The modeling analysis for objects placed in a given space can be described objectively when their visual image structure is grasped. It can't be answered without first analyzing the basic program, visual expression. And when the whole aspect of the visual image of the desired interior utensils is presented, the mindset of its designer can be deduced from that. Therefore, the study was based on the lemon juice squeezer, one of the interior kitchen utensils that Philippe Starck designed for Italy ALESSI company. For the study method, putting'The Elements of Dynamic Symmetry' by Prof. Jay Hambidge into practice, 'paradigm' analysis containing the whole'lemon juice squeezer'image was attempted. And to describe it, the visual mark description method by Prof. Bok-Young Kim was used. In conclusion, henceforth, the relationship between interior space and articles, the relationship between object and user, the modeling critique or analysis of the production itself shoud not be intended to be emotional. On the contrary, the study presented an art analyic methodology that can analyze and describe the visual image structure numerically, and confirm the relationship between form and content.

  • Research and Development (R&D) departments concentrate their efforts on one of two key types of research: fundamental research to discover new technology, and product development research to determine ways to use new technology or to improve upon already existing technology. Of these two types of research, the first, fundamental research, does not guarantee that successful products will develop. This type of research generally requires the investment of large sums of money without the surety of financial gain. It can, however, greatly enhance a company's image and profit potential if it can then develop a successful product from the fundamental research their scientists and engineers have done. Also, through this type of research, companies can register patents which can result in income from the sale or license of the patented technology or process to other companies. Companies place themselves at financial risk when they delve into fundamental research. For that reason, most companies concentrate their research funds and efforts on the second type of research, product development. For a product to be considered successful the company must realize some sort of benefit such as profit, increased marketshare, market recognition, or any other company-defined benefits. Both types of research require a company's consistent financial investment and planning. As the world market becomes more competitive, only those companies that can produce a product with good quality, competitive pricing, and in a timely manner will thrive. This thesis focuses on issues for developing a successful product through examining a product life cycle, a product portfolio matrix, and reactive and proactive marketing strategies.
