  • The travelling ultrasonic motor(USM) has good some characteristics over conventional servo motors such as compact size, light weight, silent moton, high torque and high speed response. The USM is driven by 2-phase AC electricity. By adjusting the phase difference of the motor power we control rotation, speed and torque of USM. In this paper, we propose design method using PLSI(programmable Large Scale Integration) of USM controller to adjust the phase difference of the motor power. As compared the previous, the new controller has some advantage that high speed, predictable performance, low power and so on.

  • In this paper, a compact, light-weight, universal, spherical 3-degree-of-freedom, parallel-structured manual controller with high reflecting-force capability is implemented. First, the position analysis, kinematic modeling and analysis, force reflecting transformation, and applied force control schemes for a parallel structured 3 degree-of-freedom spherical system have been described. Then, a brief description of the system integration, its actual implementation hardware, and its preliminary analysis results are presented. The implemented parallel 3 degree-of-freedom spherical module is equipped with high gear-ratio reducers, and the friction due to the reducers is minimized by employing a force control algorithm, which results in a "power steering" effect for enhanced smoothness and transparency (for compactness and reduced weight).d weight).

  • In this paper, a controller design for coreless linear synchronous motor is proposed. The designed controller is mainly composed of speed and current control, which are carried out by the high-speed digital signal processor(DSP). In addition the PWM inverter is controlled by space voltage PWM method. This system is implemented using by 32-bit DSP(TMS320C31), a high-integrated logic device(EPM940), and IPM(Intelligent Power Modules) for compact and powerful system design. The experimental results show the effective performance of controller for coreless linear synchronous motor.

  • This paper presents the development of a compact position generator to be used for industrial purposes based on a pump controlled Electro-Hydraulic Actuator (EHA), which is closed-loop controlled by an embedded based Iterative PID controller. The controller is designed by combining the PID controller and the iterative learning scheme to perform tracking control for periodically desired references. Control algorithm is implemented on an embedded computer (AD 7011-EVA) which makes the implementation and application in industrial environments easier.

Design of a Low-Order Sensorless Controller by Robust H∞ Control for Boost Converters

  • Luenberger observer (LO)-based sensorless multi-loop control of a converter requires an iterative trial-and-error design process, considering that many parameters should be determined, and loop gains are indirectly related to the closed-loop characteristics. Robust H∞ control adopts a compact sensorless controller. The algebraic Riccati equation (ARE)-based and linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based H∞ approaches need an exhaustive procedure, particularly for a low-order controller. Therefore, in this study, a novel robust H∞ synthesis approach is proposed to design a low-order sensorless controller for boost converters, which need not solve any ARE or LMI, and to parameterize the controller by an adjustable parameter behaving like a "knob" on the closed-loop characteristics. Simulation results show the straightforward closed-loop characteristics evaluation and better dynamic performance by the proposed H∞ approach, compared with the LO-based sensorless multi-loop control. Practical experiments on a digital processor confirmed the simulation results.

  • This paper describes a monocular PSD-based motion capture sensor to employ with commercial video game systems such as Microsoft's XBOX and Sony's Playstation II. The system compact, low-cost, and only requires a one-time calibration at the factory. The system includes a PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) and active infrared (IR) LED markers that are placed on the object to be tracked. The PSD sensor is placed in the focal plane of a wide-angle lens. The micro-controller calculates the 3D position of the markers using only the measured intensity and 2D position on the PSD. A series of experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of our prototype system. From the experimental results we see that the proposed system's compact size, low-cost, ease of installation, and high frame rates are suitable for high speed motion tracking in games.

  • This paper discusses the development of a 3.5 kW switched reluctance motor (SRM)-based electric air-conditioning (AC) compressor, focusing primarily on the design aspects of the SRM and the integrated controller. In addition to the increased price of rare-earth magnets, SRM's operation capability at high speed and high temperature makes the SRM a viable alternative to the permanent magnet motor for electrically driven automotive air conditioning compressors. A compact and energy efficient scroll compressor is designed and constructed. Two feasible SRM topologies are considered, in terms of efficiency, torque ripple, and acoustic noise. Compact drive electronics are designed and employed to drive the SRM-based compressor. The static and dynamic performance is validated by simulation and experiment.

  • It is always necessary to high performance power supplies for the magnet system in the accelerator, especially when the number of power supplies are large. When have developed the compact power supply using switching technology instead of SCR phase control. We adopt the pulse width modulation(PWM) method with a half bridge DC/DC converter. In this way, we can make a compact system with light weight and small volume. Actual system we developed is 1.2kW, 35V/35A bipolar DC power supply current precision of +/-0.02%. It is possible to mount 10 unit in a conventional 19 rack. The built in controller has an RS422 protocol to drive 10 unit by one serial port up to 1.2km distance. If we adopt RS485 protocol, one serial port can control 32 power supplies. In this paper, we will report the design and performance of the prototype power supply.

  • In this work, a continuous-flow micro-PCR system is systematically designed. From the numerical simulation based on the finite volume method, adapting oneself to a new environmental temperature without an external temperature controller is shown to be possible and a cooler as well as a heater is shown to be necessary to obtain three individual temperature zones for polymerase chain reaction. In addition, appropriate geometry of a heat sink for the cooler is determined by using a compact modeling method, the porous medium approach.
