Implementation of Brushless Linear Motor Driver (브러쉬없는 리니어 모터 드라이브 구현)

  • In this paper, a controller design for brushless linear motor is proposed. The designed controller is mainly composed of speed and current controller, which are carried out by the high-speed digital signal processor(DSP). In addition the PWM inverter is controlled by space voltage PWM method. This system is implemented using by 32-bit DSP(TMS320C31), a high-integrated logic device(EPM7128), and IPM(Intelligent Power Module) for compact and powerful system design. The experimental results show the effective performance of controller for the brushless linear motor.

  • A harmonic drive is compact torque transmission device with no backlash which is widely applied in industrial field to transmit torque precisely. However, one of the disadvantages of harmonic drives is the existence of mechanical flexibility caused by its structural properties, which imposes great limitation on designing precise controller This paper proposes a nonlinear controller for synchronous operation of DC servo-motors with harmonic drive, using Integrator Backstepping method. Furthermore, an alternative algorithm for serial type synchronous operation of multiple DC servo-motors is proposed. Simulation results by SIMULINK for proposed controller shows considerably small error and rapid approach to reference input, which can be adapted to industrial applications.

  • A model free controller utilizing a set of linguistic fuzzy logic of the human operator's experience is developed to control the steam generator water level in a pressurized water reactor. Only 9 rules for control action are generated from the inputs of water level error and mass flow error implicitly representing the time variation of the collapsed water level. The bell type membership functions of the premise side and the result side are tuned by the sensitivity study. This compact fuzzy logic controller shows a robust control during transient and no offset error and oscillation during steady state operation. For a multi-ramp power increase from start-up to full power, the proposed controller shows good performance for the entire range.

  • The purpose of this paper is to design and construct the compact type joint driver and controller of the biped robot. This biped robot will be designed to be suitable for the practical usages and applications in the work environment, which is not plat floor, like a stairs by taking the stand-alone style that equipped all the parts except power sources. Generally, highly nonlinear motion dynamics of the biped robot is realized to linear approximations by installing a high-ratio speed reducer at each joint and dividing motions into a several piecewise linear motions, which is realized by the digital controller design techniques. This biped robot has symmetrical structure to get the stable walking ability and also the hierachical structure to control each joint as well. That is, all of the joint controllers are connected to the main controller in the composition of overall controllers. The driver and controller of each joint uses PI controller that compensate the velocity and position errors by the data of the encoder. And the signal characteristics of each joint controller forms a trapezoid speed profile which is predefined by the values of direction, maximum velocity and position.

  • This paper describes a simple proportional and integral control algorithm for a swirl motor controller and its application. The control algorithm may be complicated in order to have desired performance, such as low steady state errors, fast response time, and relatively low overshoot. At the same time, it should be compact so that it can be easily implemented on a low cost microcontroller, which has no floating-point calculation capability and low computing speed. These conflicting requirements are fulfilled by the proposed control algorithm which consists of a gain scheduling proportional controller and an anti-windup integral controller. The mechanical friction, which is caused by gears and a return spring, varies very nonlinearly according to the angular position of the system. This nonlinear static friction is overcome by the proportional controller, which has a two-dimensional look up gain table. It has error axis and angular position axis. The integral controller is designed not only to minimize the steady state error but also to avoid the windup effect, which may be caused by the saturation of a motor driver. The proposed control algorithm is verified by use of a commercial product to prove the feasibility of the algorithm.

  • The small-sized wind turbine generating system with the output power less than 10kW, which can be installed in some areas of hills, parks, and cities due to its flexibility, is one of the progressive research and development fields in renewable energy. It is important for the small wind turbine generators to have low cost, high reliability as well as high efficiency. To meet these requirements, development of various maximum-power-point-tracking (MPPT) control schemes should be required. Generally, the output of the controller can be connected to a 48V battery to supply power to a DC load. In this work, the design and implementation of an FPGA-based MPPT controller for small-sized wind turbine generating system is presented. For the verification of the practical performance of various MPPT algorithms, CRIO controller from NI has been used.

  • The trend of compact size, light weight, low power consumption in the portable telecommunication equipments demands large scale integration and low voltage operation of chips and the minimization of the number of the components in the telecommunication terminal. According to the trend, existing chip components are modulized and are integrated as a part into a bigger chip. This paper is about the development of the peripheral units of micro-controller for mobile telecommunication terminal. Peripherals consist of DMA controller, Interrupt controller, timer, watchdog timer, clock generator, and power management unit. They are designed to be integrated with EU(Execution Unit) and BIU(Bus Interface Unit) into a 16 bit micro-controller which will be used as a core of an ASIC for next generation digital mobile telecommunication terminal. At first, whole block of the micro-controller was described by VHDL behavioral model and simulated to verify its overall operation. Then, watchdog timer, clock generator and power management unit were directly synthesized by using VHDL synthesis tool. Rest of the pheriperal units were designed and simulated by using Compass Design Tool.

Monitoring system for the wind-induced dynamic motion of 1/100-scale spar-type floating offshore wind turbine

  • Differing from the fixed-type, the dynamic motion of floating-type offshore wind turbines is very sensitive to wind and wave excitations. Thus, the sensing and monitoring of its motion is important to evaluate the dynamic responses to the external excitation. In this context, a monitoring system for sensing and processing the wind-induced dynamic motion of spar-type floating offshore wind turbine is developed in this study. It is developed by integrating a 1/00 scale model of 2.5MW spar-type floating offshore wind turbine, water basin equipped with the wind generator, sensing and data acquisition systems, real-time CompactRIO controller and monitoring program. The scale model with the upper rotatable blades is installed within the basin by means of three mooring lines, and its translational and rotational motions are detected by 3-axis inclinometer and accelerometers and gyroscope. The detected motion signals are processed using a real-time controller CompactRIO to calculate the acceleration and tilting angle of nacelle and the attitude of floating platform. The developed monitoring system is demonstrated and validated by measuring and evaluating the time histories and trajectories of nacelle and platform motions for three different wind velocities and for eight different fairlead positions.

  • Biped robot requires that an energy source and a control part should be installed on the body to realize active system. So, we choose the DC motor having high torque in compact size in this study. In the DC motor serve system, we choose power amplifier with analog configuration, developed the module combined the controller and the driver. We applied this module to robot actuator and studied the response characteristics in an action and a return. Main controller with serve system, loading PIC micro controller, can be load on the robot with light weight.

  • A biped robot should be designed to be an effective mechanical structure and have smaller hardware system if it is to be a stand-alone structure. This paper shows the design methodology of a biped robot controller using FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array). A hardware system consists of DSP(Digital Signal Processor) as the main CPU, and FPGA as the motor controller. By using FPGA, more flexible hardware system has been achieved, and more compact and simple controller has been designed.
