Improvement of Output Linearity of Matrix Converters with a General R-C Commutation Circuit

  • In this paper, a matrix converter with improved low frequency output performance is proposed by achieving a one-step commutation owing to a general commutation circuit applicable to n-phase to m-phase matrix converters. The commutation circuit consists of simple resister and capacitor components, leading to a very stable, reliable and robust operation. Also, it requires no extra sensing information to achieve commutation, allowing for a one-step commutation like a conventional dead time commutation. With the dead time commutation strategy applied, the distortion caused by commutation delay is analyzed and compensated, therefore leading to better output linear behavior. In this paper, detailed commutation procedures of the R-C commutation circuit are analyzed. A selection of specific semiconductor switches and commutation circuit components is also provided. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed commutation method is verified through a two-phase to single-phase matrix converter and the feasibility of the compensation approach is shown by an open loop space vector modulated three-phase matrix converter with a passive load.

Filterless and Sensorless Commutation Method for BLDC Motors

  • This study presents a new sensorless commutation method for brushless direct current motors to replace Hall sensor signals with virtual Hall signals. The importance of the proposed method lies in the simultaneous elimination of the phase shifter and the low-pass filters, which makes the method simple and cost-effective. The method removes high ripple switching noises from motor terminals, thereby decreasing motor losses. The proposed method utilizes unfiltered line voltages with notches caused by current commutation. Hence, specific sign signals are defined to compensate for the effects of commutation noise. The proposed method is free from phase delay that originates from low-pass filters. The method directly produces virtual Hall signals, and thus, it can be interfaced with low-cost commercial commutation integrated circuits based on Hall sensors. Simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method.

최소토크맥동을 갖는 BLDC 전동기의 최적제어 (Optimum Torque Control Method for BLDC Motor with Minimum Torque Pulsation)

  • 본 연구에서는 감쇠상 역기전력을 고려한 토크모델이 도통 및 전환구간에서 다름을 보였으며 이를 통해 전환구간에서 나타나는 토크맥동을 수학적으로 해석하였다. 본 논문에서는 전환시간에 의해 나타나는 토크맥동을 저감할 수 있는 새로운 방식을 제안하였다. 첫째, 전환시간을 조절하여 상승상 및 감쇠상의 전류의 기울기를 일정하게 조정하는 절환지연시간제어를 제안하였다. 이를 통하여 비전환상에서의 전류맥동을 저감하였으며 직류단전압과 4배의 역기전력전압의 크기가 같아지는 임계속도 이하에서 토크맥동을 저감할 수 있다. 그러나, 역기전력 및 전환하는 전류의 관계에 의해 토크맥동이 여전히 존재한다. 특히 임계속도 이상에서는 토크맥동율이 크게 증가한다. 둘째, 역기전력과 전류의 관계에 따라 나타나는 토크맥동을 고려한 전환시점제어를 제안하였다. 제안한 방식에 의하여 BLDC 전동기의 토크맥동을 임계속도 이상에서 뿐 만 아니라 전 속도영역에서도 최소화 할 수 있다.

A New Start-up Method for a Load Commutated Inverter for Large Synchronous Generator of Gas-Turbine

  • This paper proposes a new start-up method for a load commutated inverter (LCI) in a large synchronous gas-turbine generator. The initial rotor position for start-up torque is detected by the proposed initial angle detector, which consists of an integrator and a phase-locked loop. The initial rotor position is accurately detected within 150ms, and the angle difference between the real position and the detected position is less than 1%. The LCI system operates in two modes (forced commutation mode and natural commutation mode) according to operating speed range. The proposed controllers include a forced commutation controller for the low-speed range, a PI speed controller and a PI current controller, where the forced commutation controller is connected to the current controller in parallel. The current controller is modeled by Matlab/Simulink, where a six-pulse delay of the thyristor and a processing delay are considered by using a zero-order hold. The performance of the proposed start-up method is evaluated in Matlab/Psim at standstill and at low speed. To verify the feasibility of the method, a 5kVA LCI system prototype is implemented, and the proposed initial angle detector and the system performance are confirmed by experimental results from standstill to 900rpm.

  • 본 논문은 CTDP 기법을 이용한 다양한 역기전력을 갖는 BLDCM(Brushless DC Motor)의 토크특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 상전환 및 상전환 시점에 의한 토크맥동을 개선하기 위한 CDTP 기법을 제안하였다. 이를 위하여 Hague의 해석방법에 따른 실제 역기전력을 갖는 BLDCM의 제어에 적용하였으며 이때 실제 역기전력은 착자의 가장자리 지수와 평탄구간에 의해 발생된다. 이의 검증을 위하여 시뮬레이션 및 실험을 통하여 제안한 방식을 이용한 토크맥동 저감방법의 타당성을 살펴보았다.

  • 본 논문에서는 역기전력을 고려한 새로운 토크모델인 CDTP(Commutation Delay Time and Point) 제어기법을 이용하여 실제 역기전력을 고려한 BLDC(Brushless DC)전동기의 토크맥동에 대하여 연구하였다. BLCD 전공기의 상전환(Commutation)시 발생하는 토크맥동에 대하여 기술하였으며 토크맥동의 원인이 되는 역기전력과 전류와의 관계를 고찰하였다. 이를 바탕으로 토크맥동의 개선을 위하여 상전환시점과 상전환기간을 고려한 CDTP 제어기법을 제안하였으며 맥동토크의 저감효과에 대하여 해석하였다. 또한 BLDC 전동기의 실제 역기전력을 고려하기 위하여 Hague의 해석방법에 따른 역기전력의 다양한 형태를 살펴보고, 제안한 CDTP기법을 적용하여 기존 방법을 통한 토크맥동 제어방법과 비교 ${\cdot}$ 검토하였다. 이의 검증을 위하여 MATLAB/Simulink를 이용하여 제안한 방식의 토크맥동 저감방법의 타당성을 살펴보았다.

  • 본 논문에서는 브러시리스 직류 전동기(BLDCM)의 정류과정에서 발생하는 유도성 상 전류의 위상각 제어에 의한 토크 리플의 감소 방법에 대하여 연구한다. 고정자 코일에서 발생하는 유도성 전이 전류에 대한 위상지연의 크기는 전동기의 회전속도에 따라 달라지므로, 속도에 대한 보상각을 결정하고 테이블 처리에 의하여 실시간 제어한다. 실험으로, AVR 8515 마이크로 프로세서를 이용하여 위상지연을 보상하는 회로를 설계하였으며 4극 3상의 브러시리스 직류 전동기에 대하여 전동기의 모든 운전영역에서 토크 리플이 현저하게 감소함을 확인하였다.

Comprehensive Analysis and Evaluation of Mobile S-MAC Protocol in Wireless Sensor Network

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are becoming widely used in collecting and sensing information in different fields such as in the medical area, smart phone industry and military environment. The main concern here is reducing the power consumption because it effects in the lifetime of wireless sensor during commutation because it may be work in some environment like sensor in the battlefields where is not easy to change the battery for a node and that may decrease the efficiency of that node and that may affect the network traffic may be interrupted because one or more nodes stop working. In this paper we implement, simulate, and investigate S-MAC protocol with mobility support and show the sequence of events the sender and receiver go through. We tested some parameters and their impacts of on the performance including System throughput, number of packets successfully delivered per second, packet delay, average packet delay before successful transmission.

  • This paper presents zero crossing point(ZCP) estimation methods considering discretization error for a high speed brushless DC(BLDC) motor drive. The ZCP is estimated by detecting the change of back-EMF polarity for the BLDC sensorless drive, and the discretization error exist on the estimated ZCP. The discretization error of the ZCP is a cause of the delay of a commutation timing of current and increment of a current ripple factor. Besides a delay of a ZCP estimation brings on the limitation of a speed range for the BLDC sensorless drive. The compensation method based on the error analysis with probability theory for reducing the effects of the discretization error of the ZCP is proposed. Also a ZCP estimation method according to the Back-EMF patterns is proposed to widen the speed range for the BLDC sensorless drive. The proposed methods are verified by the experiment.

  • This paper presents a method to detect a rotor position and to drive a BLDC motor from standstill to medium speed without any position sensor comparing the current responses due to the inductance variation in the rotor position. A rotor position at a standstill is identified by the current responses of six pulses injected to each phase of a motor. Once the motor stars up pulse train that is composed of long and short pulses is injected to the phase corresponding to produce the maximum torque and the next phase continuously. it provides not only the torque but also the information of the next commutation time effectively when the response of long and short pulses crosses each other after the same time delay. This method which is verified experimentally using a DSP can drive a BLDC motor to the medium speed smoothly without any rattling and time delay compared with the conventional sensorless algorithm.
