The SIHR program was administered to four disability for 1 hour a day, 2 or 3 times a week, for 8 weeks, and their self-rehabilitation was monitored once a week for 4 weeks. After all intervention periods, in-depth interviews were conducted by using a semi-structured questionnaire for the therapists and disability. Results: The therapists were satisfied with the contents of the SIHR program, such as behavioral change technique and goal-directed training. They were also satisfied with the process of developing the program through a community network. Disabilities were satisfied with the therapists' persuasive and emotionally interactive way of delivering the SIHR program as well as the individually customized rehabilitation training and physical improvement. The short period (8 weeks) of the SIHR program was noted by both therapists and disabilities as the part that needs improvement. • This paper explores community-based flood disaster risk governance by applying a sensemaking approach. The conceptual sensemaking framework consists of individual experience, dialogue, and socialization components, which together comprise an interconnected system. This study presents a method for applying this framework by using a concerns table and a SWOT analysis to examine the concerns of residents living in a flood plain. A series of community-based workshops on flood risk reduction was conducted with residents of the flood-prone Muraida community in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. During the workshops, residents' concerns regarding flood risk surfaced. This study used an idiographic approach to examine the proceedings of the workshops. SWOT issue analysis was used to examine the strengths and weaknesses in the Muraida community's internal capacities, and examine the opportunities and threats in the external capacities (e.g., local government). Additionally, a SWOT strategy analysis was conducted to identify strategies for knowledge sharing and development of cooperative countermeasures that can be undertaken between the Muraida community and the local government. The results show that the concerns table can not only summarize the main concerns of all workshops, but also provide an understanding of alternative flood risk countermeasures that can be carried out.

It is a problem solving oriented method by reorganizing the scenario in a movie story situation. The reorganized scenario in this study is just an example of scenario approach method. Community Health Nurses can cultivate their creativity by solving various problems in the community by adopting or modifying this simple scenario in practice.

  • This paper reviews researches related with the elderly caregiving, which hale published during the 1990s. After analyzingthe 29 articles in this field, the major findings are as follows: First, the advantageous position in life chances which is consisted of socioeconomic status and resources tends to reduce th burden for the elderly care. The higher in social status, the more resources older adults have, the more advantageous in controlling their relationship with their children and caregivers. Second, values based on familism is more associated with providing caregiving services for their parents than those of filial piety. Third, the tendency that daughter-in-law takes the role of the primary caregiver suggests a possibility of diminishing her enthusiasm, and finally comes to recognize her role as an enforced one, as time goes by. Fourth, cargiving burden affects the diverse aspects of caregiver's way of life. When the lower class elderly has dementia, caregiving stress and hassle have reached at their peak level. For meeting the needs of reducing the burden for the elderly care, this study suggests community- based approach for the elderly care. This approach attempts to share the caregiving burden with local community. To share the burden means that the boundaries of caregivers does not limit family members, but to expand community. This attempt includes a plan that establishes multipurpose community center which provides comprehensive services and care for the aged. The theoretical rationale of this approach are also discussed.

For this study 34 Q-statements were selected. 24 nursing students were subjects for the research. The 24 nursing students sorted 34 Q-statements using the principle of Forced Normal Distribution. The principle of Forced Normal Distribution, which has nine scales to measure individual opinions, was called, a Q- Factor Analysis by using a PC Quanl Program to supply the material. According to the results of this study, there were three categories of opinion concerning community nursing practice. The first type is the realistic problem-oriented approach: the second type is the self-responsibility or pursuit of life meaning approach: the third type is the group approach for problem solving. And it would reveal the discontinuity of community-oriented health programs in the current health promotion activities. Finally, the methods of attaining community-based health promotion would be suggested. Results and Conclusion: Community-based health promotion had been implemented in rural areas by medical schools in the 1970s and 1980s, which emphasized the role of village health workers. But their roles has disappeared since the government-initiated health promotion policies and programs have been implemented in the mid-1990s. This paper addressed the factors contributing to this discontinuity, such as the expansion of heath insurance system, the change of health care discourses, the monopoly of resources for health promotion by government, and the bureaucratic approach to health promotion, etc. This paper suggested the utilization of voluntary and civic organizations in community for realizing the goal of community-based health promotion.

  • Purpose of this study is to find the research direction to solve the housing problems for the elderly which based on approaches and issues in related studies. Research method was interpretative analysis of the articles issued from 1976 to 2002. Each approach (rationalistic approach, ecological approach, micro-sociological approach, typological approach, environment-psychological approach, welfare approach) produced helpful information and had relative merits. But the researchers must regard housing for the elderly as a social problem in macroscopic view to solve the housing problems for older people with welfare approach. As a result, to solve the housing problems with welfare approach for the elderly who live in their own place with community care, studies about lifetime home, care and repair, and management of housing for the elderly might be needed. And research about existing services, transfer system of services, financial problems, man power to manage the system might be needed to spread out the services to the middle class elderly.
