  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of and problems with the Safe Community Programs in Gangbuk-gu, one of the 25 districts of the capital city of Korea. Methods: The study subjects were 396 individuals who were involved in Safe Community Programs between 2009 and 2011. We examined the effectiveness and willingness of respondents to participate as a safety leader of the Safe Community Program with a questionnaire. We examined the injury death rates of Gangbuk-gu by using of the death certificate data of Korea's National Statistical Office. Descriptive statistics and chi-squared tests were used. Results: The effectiveness of programs did not differ but active participation differed significantly among subjects (p<0.05). The injury death rate of Gangbuk-gu as a whole increased during the implementation period. However, senior safety, in particular, may be a helpful program for reducing injuries in Gangbuk-gu. Conclusions: This study suggests that the lack of active participation may be a major problem of Safe Community Programs in Gangbuk-gu. Therefore, Safe Community Programs should be expanded to the entire district of Gangbuk-gu and more active participation programs should be developed.

  • This work was conducted to observe the housewives´ recognition about GMO products and their opinions about the development and production of GMO. Seventy eight percent of the subjects in this study were aware of GMO and GMO product which is best known to them was bean. Only 6.2% of the subjects considered GMO as safe and 42.1% did not know whether it is safe or not. Most of the subjects were unlikely to choose to purchase the GMO because of unproved safety, but many subjects were willing to purchase if the safety was informed with high reliability, even though 25.9% of the subjects were still negative. But when GMO product is offered with low price compared with ordinary products, only 24.6% were willing to purchase, showing that the safety was considered more important than the low price.

A 7 criteria is introduced as ISS implementation strategy. Multilevel and multi-facet approaches are valuable on ISS as well as process evaluation. For the application of ISS model in Korea, finding evidence, building public health partnership between school and other public or private resources in community are necessary conditions for succesful ISS for health promotion in school setting.

The goals of the design are to make a street on which people want to walk and rest both safely and pleasantly. To achieve these goals; concepts of identity, history, placeness, commercial vitality, environmentally-friendliness, safety, amenity , and democracy have been developed. For the pedestrian safety; shared street concepts, such as crank, salalom, fort, mini-rotary etc. are adopted. For design method, community participatory design is adapted. For the design theme; the axes of Time and Space are developed and streets are divided into 3 thematic spaces, such as 'History Street,' 'Nature Street,' and 'Culture Street.' The History Street, which belongs to Time axis, is a space for experiencing past, present, and future history of Jeonju city. Nature Street, which belongs to Space axis, is a space for feeling and loaming the nature of the city. The Culture Street, which also belongs to Space axis, is a space for experiencing the culture of the city. • In this study, we proposed the social map system prototype for intelligent crime prevention. For developing the social map system prototype, functional requirements were derived through the analysis of related cases and preceding studies. Derived requirements are providing a variety of map-based safety information, using crowdsourcing data such as SNS, connecting to intelligent CCTV. To satisfy these requirements, the prototype is developed with four main menus: the integrated search menu including social media data, the safety map menu providing a variety of safety and danger information, the community map menu to collect safety and danger information from users, and the CCTV menu providing the link to intelligent CCTV. The social map for intelligent crime prevention in this study is expected to greatly enhance the safety of local community with the provision of prompt response to risk information, safe route, etc. through actual service and user participation.
