In recent years, interests in health promotion have been stimulated by the epidemiological transition from infectious to chronic diseases as lead ing causes of death, the aging of the population, rapidly escalating health care costs, and epidemiologic findings linking individual risk to morbidity and mortality. It is not surprising that the workplace has been targeted as a promising setting for health promotion. In Korea, national attention to the opportunities for workplace health promotion began in the first 1990s. But there is no in depth study to identify the relating factors to the health promotion program in the workplace. The objective of this study is behavioral and physical characteristics to find that in crease the person's risk for a range of health problems and to analysis other characteristics to influence the degree of his/her intention to change health behavior. In addition, this study is purposed to present the process of planning health promotion program in the workplace. To accomplish these objectives, one workplaces was selected. And 363 employees in those workplaces were served as subjects for the study. Major findings in this study are as follows. (1) They have many risk factors such as smoking, drinking, lack of sleep, law rate of regular exercise, irregular eating, stress. (2) Some of the health risk factors such as smoking, drinking, and stress have the negative correlation to the intention to change. (3) Among cognitive and socio-environmental factors, significant predictors to the intention are attitude and social support. (4) In the cluster analysis to segment the target population in to homogeneous unit, three clusters of lifestyle are specified. (5) Smoking cessation and exercise program are planned for the risk group to change their behavior.
Objectives: The nurse visiting health service named Customized Visiting Health Care Program(CVHCP) requires the service innovations incorporating community support into a local service network. The purpose of this study was to assess the community network in CVHCP and inform improvement in this network. Methods: We used Social Network Analysis(SNA) in one CVHCP at H city. Network links were generated by self-administered questionnaires by the 14 community resource centers who quantified their links to all other 25 agents on the list. Links were analyzed by a dichotomous scale for any experience of collaboration and a scored scale of 0 to 3 for level of collaboration using UCINET v6. Results: A list of 14 agents was generated, and local network was dominated by the Public Health Center and a local welfare center named Unlimited Care Center(UCC). According to centrality score, UCC was the most prominent agent, and Public Health Center was the most influential agent, being a link in the pathway flow between other agents for 9.5% of contribution. CVHCP scored lower rank of prominent with 30.8% of other agents reported referring to it. Conclusions: Social network analysis provides a useful network description for informing and evaluation service network improvement in maximizing its service for the CVHCP.
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to identify the effect of an elderly health promotion program on health promotion lifestyles, health status, and quality of life in the elderly. Method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pre post experimental design. Thirty two elderly persons were in the experimental group and the other thirty two elderly were in the control group. A 16 week health promotion program was given to the experimental group. The measurement tools were HPLP II, grip strength, back lift strength, flexibility, body fat percentile, blood sugar, serum cholesterol, and quality of life. Result: The experimental group showed a higer score of health promoting lifestyles, flexibility, grip strength, back lift strength, and quality of life. There were no differences in body fat percentiles, blood sugar and serum cholesterol between the experimental and control group. Conclusion: This health promotion program for elderly can be recommended as an effective nursing intervention for elderly in a community.
Purpose: This study conducted to identify factors affecting on the job stress among employees of community integrated health promotion programs. Methods: A total of 175 employees of community integrated health promotion programs in public health centers were asked to complete a pack of self-report questionnaires. The data were then analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Employees' emotional labor was a bit higher than moderate. Employees' job stress was higher than that of general employees in public health centers but similar to police officers. Job stress had a positive relationship with emotional labor and a negative relationship with self-efficacy. Factors affecting on the job stress were emotional labor, self efficacy and working period for integrated health promotion. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, employees of community integrated health promotion programs in public health centers need to develop effective interventions to help them effectively decrease job stress. This, in turn, will decrease emotional labor and increase self efficacy.
In present paper, author proposed an effective health education strategy for local health department, which was revised from the PATCH of CDC. The author suggested that an health department should follow several steps to have an effective health promotion programs in their community. First step would be community mobilization that encourage key persons and major organizations and agencies to participate in the program. The second step is collecting demographic and vital statistics in the community or for a target audience as well as social, psychological and behavioral data. Based on the data analysis, the next step is to choose a target audience and health problem(s) for the target audience in question. The fourth step is the development of health education strategy for the target audience and the health problem. The fourth step also includes selecting a proper communication channel and educational materials as well as pre- and post-testing. The final step is implementing health education programs and evaluating the process, outcome and impact of the program. Korean Institute for Health and Social Affairs(KIHASA) has developed a model for health education programs used in local health department. KIHASA can provide technical assistance and health education materials to assist local health departments in Korea.
Objectives: The study sought to identify the perception of schoolchildren's parents concerning an approval on the expansion implementation of community water fluoridation program in Gimhae, Korea. Methods: Questionnaires were distributed to schoolchildren's parents in Gimhae in 2008. Responses were collected from 1,703 parents. The standard questionnaire of Ministry of Health and Welfare was used and items were socioeconomic variables, water used for drinking and cooking, awareness on the fluoridation program and approval on the expansion implementation of fluoridation program at the region of Myeongdong water plant. Significance was analyzed by chi-square test and multiple logistic analysis. Results: Of parents, 1.9% used plain tap water and 39.8% used boiled tap water for drinking and 50.0% used tap water for cooking. 58.0% of parents were aware of fluoridation program with 27.1% being aware of the implementation of the program in Gimhae. 74.5% approved the expansion implementation of the program to the region of Myeong-dong water plant. Significant variables associated to approving the expansion implementation of program were age, gender, residence period in Gimhae, occupation and awareness of the program. Conclusion: The expansion implementation of fluoridation program in Gimhae is desirable for caries prevention because of the majority of schoolchildren's parents' approval.
The National Health Promotion Law passed in 1995 was a milestone for initiating a national health promotion program in Korea, and government officers and health professionals are working on how to approach health promotion issues. The purpose of this study was to analyse methods and use of constructivist paradigm in health promotion and education. The health promotion area needs community empowerment, building community partnerships, and community capacity. To meet these health promotion requirements health promotion workforce should be trained through professional preparation programs that contains communication skills, group process skills, and management of programs in advanced countries such as the United States and Australia. Skills and responsibilities of those who are in charge of providing health promotion services have not yet been clearly defined in Korea because the area of health promotion is a multi-academic field, and needs a different approach, constructivist approach. Constructivist paradigm requires relativism, reasoning skills, collaborating, and motivation. These components are needed for community empowerment. Constructivism also has been applied to the field of education. Problem-based education, outcome-based education, performance-based education came from the constructivism. These educational methods are student-centered method. As the modernizing society becomes more complicated, traditional or conventional teacher-centered education cannot meet the needs of students. Students need to learn skills necessary to make healthy decisions with individual value system. So these interactive, self-learning methods can serve much more to the learner. Constructivist educational methods can be applied to educational programs in computers, too. To expand and differentiate the area of health education and health promotion from other health related fields, it is crucial to devote efforts in application and development of constructivist methods.
With the shift of cause of death from infection to chronic, the health expenditure has risen dramatically. To curb the increasing health expenditure, programs and campaigns to promote health were proposed and implemented. Most of them, however, were not successful in achieving satisfactory results. Customer Relationship Management has been gradually accepted as an innovative approach to health promotion. The objective of this research was to develop a Customer Relationship Management system for providing comprehensive health care services to the residents in the community. Detailed objectives were as follows: The first objective was the development of the CRM system for health promotion. The second objective was the satisfaction assessment for the health promotion program using the CRM system. The third was the proposal for the effective utilization of the CRM system. The development methodology of the CRM system was Rapid Warehouse Developing Method. As a CRM system equipment, a workstation with GIS of Windows 2000 was selected. SQL Server 2000 was used as a development tool and database. The subjects of study were diabetic mellitus patients, hypertension patients, and vaccin patients. The campaign channel of patients was an autocalling system. For the satisfaction assessment, a survey was performed. The main content of the survey was satisfaction level. The satisfaction level of the health promotion program using CRM system was 79.3%. In consideration of the above findings, we suggested ways of improving the Health Promotion Program by using CRM. The first was the efficient selection of the subjects of the Health Promotion Program. The second was the development for health promotion program using CRM system(life time health of individual etc).
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a mobile health lifestyle program for university students and to verify its effectiveness. Methods: The program was developed based on Jung's teaching-learning system design model. The research used a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest non-synchronized design. Data were collected from October 20 to December 5, 2018. To verify the effects of the program, the knowledge, self-efficacy, and intention to plan health lifestyle and health lifestyle behavior were measured. A two hour health lecture and a mobile health lifestyle program were delivered for 3 weeks to 23 students in the experimental group. 19 students in the control group received only a two hour health lecture. Results: The experimental group showed significantly higher scores on knowledge (F=4.63, p=.038), intention to plan health lifestyle (F=14.44, p<.001), and health lifestyle behavior (F=46.80, p<.001). However, the score on self-efficacy was not significantly different (F=2.65, p=.112). Conclusion: It was confirmed that the mobile health lifestyle program can be useful in increasing the level of knowledge, intention and behavior of health lifestyle among university students. Therefore, the mobile health lifestyle application can be used as a supporting resource to enhance the health promotion for university students.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify health promotion services in rural areas and factors influencing this service. Method: From March to April, 2007, a structured questionnaire on services in 2006 was used to collect data from community health practitioners in all of the Primary Health Care Posts (PHCP) in North Chungchong Province. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 Win program. Results: The most frequently offered programs were health gymnastics, walking exercise, bathing and vaccination service, and hypertension management. The main obstacles to these health services were lack of adequate space, insufficient budget, and overwork. The most frequently offered health education programs were education on hypertension, exercise, diabetes, volunteer work, and smoking cessation. The main obstacles to health education were lack of adequate space, insufficient education materials and equipment, and lack of cooperation from the citizens. Improvement and reinforcement of health promotion programs should include support of specialist, development of appropriate methods of service delivery, and education materials, and increase ease in using community resources. Conclusions: The research results show that a new model of health promotion must be developed for efficient health promotion programs in rural PHCP.
