The methodology used in this study entails analyzing existing research and case studies carried out on this subject matter. Prior to these case studies, an existing study had been made of the chronological changes in policy, related laws and regulations in Korea since the 1960s. This case study presents the component ratio and systematized present situation of community spaces in twenty-two apartment complexes. An analysis of the researching process has revealed the following important factors related to the changes that have occurred in community spaces in apartment complexes. Because the priority was to solve the housing shortage, community spaces were not widely considered or developed. (2) The standard of community spaces was established as mandatory by law in the 1970s, resulting in the emergence of various facilities that provided community spaces. (3) In the 1980s, various design competitions for apartment complexes were conducted as an attempt to improve residential environments. This process resulted in the development of new characteristic of subsidiary facilities. (4) During the period when housing problems were being addressed in the 1990s, the Community Service Center was added to the welfare facilities for residents. (5) Recently, during the 2000s, an improvement in residential environments has evolved due to the expansion of housing supply and economic growth. The quality of community spaces has therefore improved from the 1960s onward. This study revealed that policy and related laws regarding community space in Korea have been developing in a suitable direction and that the addition of various facilities to community spaces has improved the quality of living environments.

  • Proper methods for facilities distribution are suggested by the examination of researches on facilities distribution, the analysis of the scope that facilities are used, and the consideration of facilities demand, and proper distribution and placement of facilities suitable for each stage is suggested. The theoretical examination for proper distribution and the analysis of the use scope is made. As a result. the area covers four dongs(administrative unit) within 1km. The $80{\sim}90%$ of residents who use the existing facilities are the ones living within 1km and so the zone of life in everyday life depending on walking as a means of movement is found to be expanded by the developments in transportation means and road construction. Therefore I suggested that lifetime sports facilities be established within the use scope whose radius and area are 1km and 4km2, respectively, regarding the sports facilities as a community center which can playa role of an institution of community center.

  • In order to get the practical suggestions concerning the development of the domestic senior facilities in the rural area, a survey was made in the Philippines and Thailand to grip the policies and programs for senior, by visiting the government institute and senior village facilities. As for the Philippines, Philippine Retirement Authority was attracting investment of foreigners and individuals having Philippine citizenship, by issuing SRRV(the Special Resident Retiree's Visa), and as for Thailand, the Thai Longstay Management Company Limited was providing membership system for the abode of foreigners. In case of the domestic residence for seniors, it is suggested that the development of the senior housing community be designed in accordance with the diversified purposes of residence; that is, the prime concern of the community should be reflected on the characteristics of the retiree group (such as the lifestyle, health situation, etc), and at the same time, special concern also be showed on managing the community club house facilities, and keeping the amicable relations between the retiree residents and the local villagers.
