This study is a theoretical exploration of project-based service-learning and its application in designing pre-dental curricula. As a response to the limitation of community service courses, service-learning has been implemented as pedagogy in higher education practices. Service-learning connects service and learning by engaging students in activities that address community needs with intentionally designed learning opportunities while adding value to and transforming both service and learning. Project-based service-learning is an extended and more active version of service-learning. Whereas service activities are arranged by instructors in the original service-learning, project-based service-learning provides students with opportunities for exploring problems and root causes on site and then devising and implementing solutions of their own using their talents and creativity. This study proposes a theoretical approach to project-based service-learning and suggests six design components, namely, related curriculum, reflection, reciprocity, service and community engagement, evaluation and recognition, and creative problem solving. Based on the components, 20 design strategies are formulated. The exploration is aimed to provide design guides for professionals attempting to implement project-based service-learning in higher education.

The purpose of this study is to develop a service learning education program for engineers and to investigate its educational effects. This study reviewed the concept and characteristics of service learning and examined the service learning education programs operated in higher education environments. The Service Learning Education Program was developed by integrating engineering design and community service activities. This program has been applied to the engineering education from 2014 to 2016. As a result of the study, the learners' satisfaction with service learning activities, empathy ability, and engineering design ability were improved. Based on the research results, practical implications are suggested to the instructors who want to develop the service learning education program for engineering students.

The goal of this study is to find a design pattern of platform of chapel according to acceptance of community's social activities and classify a forms of platform design between urban and rural community church. It was surveyed by 18 community churches including of 8 rural churches. And it was comprised in main contents that this study surveyed about social functions of church and composition of room, a transformation of worship and platform, and furniture of platform. As a results of this study, I could suggest a conclusions as follows; firstly, community churches are trying hard to make their social functions wide and deep. Secondly it was necessary for them to prepare a spaces and rooms for service of community people like a social welfare and christian cultural activities. Thirdly, the form of platform and style of worship were serviced by transformation for the acceptance of community requirements. Finally, the service style of chapel and platform have been transformed in a view point of accommodation of community since early 2000.

This study proposes community based web service for contents providers and web designers to provide user-centered approach on Wordpress theme search and customizstion process. The contents and structure of theme information is analyzed and online communities on programming and Wordpress are studied to development of community based, theme contents service scenario. As a result, I launched 'Themettack' web service, I took beta testing with 20 users for 2 weeks, and found that theme template image and ideal theme contest services are the most satisfactory experiences. Various community contents which tested in this study and user participation data provided proper directions of Wordpress theme service as open source platform.

The recent change of social environment has influence on the configuration of space for the community social welfare center. And so the relation of space and the service function required the change of spatial configuration. The social welfare center fills the role of family welfare, domiciliary care, community service etc. In such sense, this research explore the conditions of spatial configuration for the community welfare service unit of social welfare center in small city. For this study, it was investigated the space role and service function, the service program, the usage characteristics, the room satisfaction of social workers. In sum, the useful data were collected, analyzed, and colligated by case study. It could be used in the basic design criteria of community service unit for the social welfare center in small city.

The Japanese housing market has implemented management and operation systems of community service ahead of the Korean market. This paper examines case studies of Japanese community services by reviewing related studies, studying homepages, and conducting in-depth interviews with management staff. The goal of this study is to find marketing strategies and the proper management practices in preparation for the upcoming low-fertility and aging society. The results of this study are as follows: 1) After Japan's bubble economy burst in 1985, so called that incorporated various community facilities with life services were introduced to the Japanese housing market in order to cope with the diversifying family types and lifestyles. This new trend was also due in part to customers' increasing demands for convenient urban condominiums. 2) In Japan, many developers and construction companies have run the management of community service programs and created new business models in collaboration with other affiliated companies. However, many of these programs have been found even more successful and reliable when the facility management companies collaborate with local service providers instead of relying solely on affiliated companies. 3) The early stage of life services began with "front-desk services", but these have evolved into more upgraded "concierge services" that can provide residents with tailored services and conveniences. Furthermore, some of the service providers have encouraged resident participation in the process of designing and implementing their community services. 4) In Korea, most construction companies and developers are still oriented toward providing hardware such as spaces and facilities in developing their community services. Therefore, companies with high market reputations must seek alternative ways to maintain and enhance their brand values by implementing new approaches in collaboration with both affiliated companies and local service providers. This can be done by finding new notions of managing and operating community services through research and development.

Community design education has covered the worldview dimension of the collaborative courses for sustainability draws on the architectural expertise developed in a network of community projects and therefore case studies of design education by the collaborative project-based learning in terms of participants, students, teachers and architects, such as 'Learning By Design' for the K-12 comprehensive program in Massachusetts addresses how a local society can make its community sustainable by both design and education. To understand that community design and education can provide professional development in all levels of skills and knowledge across disciplines and opportunities for collaborative learning and problem-solving, this research consists of case studies of the community design education including social systems that assist in organizing the local educational program as well as promoting the programs with public awareness of the community. It covers the UNESCO-UIA agenda of the community design and education that is to enhance the physical environment relating to human interaction by developing innovative alternatives of existing community and contributing voluntarily to neighborhoods through design. As the community design collaborative of design professionals and users is a structural approach to assess design quality, the cases address how to set up the architectural program in order to share pro bono design service and provide high-quality design resources available for sustainable environment.

This study is researched to provide design guidelines of service facilities and programs that apartment residents want along with the increased quality of life. This study is signifiant because it sought effective methods to activate the com-munity culture through service facilities in apartment complexes and the design standard and planning direction for residents. The study results are as follows. This study develops and applies a service learning course that integrates university curriculum with the local community in housing and interior design. The results of the study are as follows. First, the service learning course of the housing and interior design was developed as a six-week lecture based on the project model with the theme of housing for the socially disadvantaged. Second, this course was implemented with faculty, students, interior designers, and service recipients to engage in activities to improve the educational environment of local child centers. Next, students engaged in the service learning course and continuously conducted reflection activities to enhance the effectiveness of learning. In reflection activities, students assessed that self-directed capabilities increased as has employing the coordination and applicability to meet identified community needs. Finally, faculty, students, and experts (including institutional experts and supervising departments) evaluated course practice and educational outcomes. Experts assessed that the course clarified course objectives, utilized various learning strategies, and showed that the structural reflection mode of learners and professors was overwhelmingly positive. The results indicated that service-learning courses enable students to integrate academic study with social work to better understand course content through direct engagements in experience learning. Furthermore, students are empowered by participation in public services that benefit service clients and consultants as students take more personal responsibility for learning.

Purpose: Healthy and balanced meal is very important for the elderly to maintain the quality of life in community. Senior meal delivery system and congregate meal services have been played an important role to prevent premature institutionalization of the elderly. Food delivery system and lunch service spaces for the Korean elderly were mostly focused and limited on low-income family. The purpose of this study is to analyze community food services environments for the elderly in the UK, the U.S. and Japan for the possibility of applying those service spaces to Korean community. Methods: Lunch service spaces of these three countries were investigated by literature research and visiting of venues. Pilot study of the elderly meal services in Seoul was done for comparing environments and future research. Results: Lunch service spaces in three countries were mostly community based for accessibility and the types of management were various for the elderly to choose the most suitable services for them. The group dining spaces are usually small and designed to give de-institutional atmosphere. Implications: Food service environments for the elderly in Korea should develop more community based model of food delivery and congregate meal service spaces as well as more de-institutionalized design of those spaces.
