  • Objectives: This study evaluated the effects and relevant factors of community-based education and advocacy intervention on stroke awareness among the general population. Methods: The study enrolled 505 community-dwelling adults aged 19 years or older who completed a survey before and after a community-based intervention held between May 2014 and December 2014. Trained staff collected data about knowledge of five stroke warning signs, emergency response, golden window of time (${\leq}3h$), and demographics. Results: After the intervention, public awareness of all five stroke warning signs increased significantly from 26.5% to 33.9% (p=0.011). Public awareness of the golden window of time also increased significantly from 70.1% in April 2014 to 75.8% in December 2014 (p=0.040). In a multivariate logistic regression analysis, older age, higher education level, and exposure to stroke-related public service announcements or educational materials were significant predictors of knowledge of all five warning signs for stroke. Conclusions: Comprehensive community-based intervention is effective for improving public awareness of the warning signs of stroke and the golden window of time.

  • This study has a purpose to provide information to help develop nursing intervention for demented elderly staying at home. For this purpose I analysed the relationship of patients' disturbing behaviors with their demographic and social characteristics, premorbid personality, and present environmental characteristics through questionnaire survey on their family members. The survey was performed through direct interview, telephone contact. and mail in the regions of Pusan and Gyeongnam. Among family members contacted. 112 ones made an appropriate response to the survey. The statistical package SAS was utilized for descriptive statistics, correlation coefficients, stepwise multiple regression, and cluster analysis. The results of the study were as follows: 1) Demographic and social characteristics of the patients surveyed are female 81.3%, average age 81.4 years, lack of schooling 83.0%, spouse dead 73.2%, having no other disease 58.9%, average duration of dementia 3.8 years, no medical treatment for dementia 84.8%, good married life 40.2%, and primary care given by daughter-in-law 49.1%. 2) Aggressive Psychomotor Behavior(APB) was observed in a way statistically meaningful in case that primary care was given by daughter-in-law, while Nonaggressive Psychomotor Behavior(NPB) was in case of good married life and primary care given by other than daughter-in-law and spouse. Verbally aggressive behavior (VAB) was observed in groups of female, spouse dead, bad married life, and daughter-in-law's primary care. As for Passive Behavior(PB), it was observed in case that patients had educational background of not less high than middle school and that they were having medical treatment. Functionally Impaired Behavior(FIB) was observed in age group of 60-69 and more than 90, in patients' group having no other disease, and in case that the duration of dementia was not less than 5 years. 3) Premobid Neuroticism(N) showed positive correlation with APB and VAB, while Openness (O) did negative correlation with PB. Agreeableness (A) was proved to have positive correlation with PA and FIB, but to have negative correlation with APB and VAB. In addition, Conscientiousness(C) showed negative correlation with APB and VAB. 4) The worse the psychosocial environment was, the more NPB and VAB were observed. 5) APB was explained 24% by C and primary care-giver, while NPB was explained 28% by psychosocial environment, having other disease or not, and married life. VAB was explained 40% by A. sex, and married life. On the other hand PB was explained 33% by O, A. N, and having medical treatment or not. But any significant factor was not found to explain FIB. 6) A cluster analysis was performed on disturbing behaviors of demented elderly staying at home. It enabled to regroup the demented elderly in 5 patterns: high scored in NPB, high scored in FIB. high scored in NPB and VAB, moderately scored in most disturbing behaviors, and low scored in all areas. In conclusion, disturbing behaviors of demented elderly not only reflect their premorbid personality in the past, but also are affected by their present psychosocial environment. Therefore, it is necessary to encourage and respond them with understanding their disturbing behaviors in relation to their past premorbid personality. In addition, it is important to provide them better psychosocial environment in order to reduce their disturbing behaviors.

  • A survey was conducted to investigate housewives' perception and consumption of Korean fermented foods marketed in Taejon. Most subjects know how to prepare Kimchi(seasoned and fermented vegetables), 65-67% can make Kochujang(fermented red pepper soybean paste), Toenjang(Korean style soysauce) and Jang-atchies(pickled basic side dishes), 56% can make Kuk-ganjang(Korean style coysauce), 45% can make Chonggukjang (fermented soybean) and 34% can make Jot-kals(salt-fermented fish products). With decreasing age(p<0.0001), not many other subjects could make other fermented foods besides Kimchi. The percentages of subjects buying fermented foods were 71.5% for Chin-ganjang(Japanese style soysauce), 51.7% Jot-kals, 27.1%Kochujang, 25.7% Chonggukjang, 20.1% Jang-atchies, 10.4% Toenjang, 5.9% Kuk-ganjang, and 3.8% Kimchi. the uounger in age, the higher the tendency to buy marketed Kimchies(p<0.05) and Kochujang(p<0.01). The resons for purchasing fermented foods were convenience (52.9%), lack of preparation knowledge(17.5%), lack of time for preparation(12.5%), and lack of space for food storage(8.2%). Subjects indicated that their reasons for mot buying were as follows : use of additives or unreliability with regard to manufacturing dates(45%), bad taste(21%), unsanitary treatment(16%) and to keep their indigenous taste(14%). They cosidered expiration dates, taste, crpteria and safety as the important standard in selecting marketed foods. • The purpose of this study is to investigate how certain factors-especially dietitians' general characteristics and job burnout-influence their job satisfaction and turnover intention. The survey was conducted during the period from September 7th to October 15th of 2006. A total of 91 institutions(response rate 74.6%) was analyzed by using SPSS(windows ver. 14.0). A majority of the respondents were females(97.8%) and 30 years or older(66.0%). Among the job burnout dimensions, exhaustion($2.78{\pm}0.07$) was rated higher than cynicism($2.62{\pm}0.06$), while the professional efficacy level($3.55{\pm}0.05$) was relatively high. The dietitians were more satisfied with co-workers($3.73{\pm}0.07$) and work($3.41{\pm}0.06$) than with pay($2.66{\pm}0.07$) and promotion($2.32{\pm}0.07$). The work dimension of job satisfaction was negatively correlated with exhaustion and cynicism dimensions of job burnout, and turnover intention(p<0.001), but positively correlated with professional efficacy dimension(p<0.001). The supervision dimension was negatively correlated with cynicism(p<0.05) and turnover intention(p<0.001), but positively correlated with professional efficacy dimension(p<0.01). The co-workers dimension was positively correlated with professional efficacy dimension(p<0.01). The pay dimension was negatively correlated with exhaustion(p<0.001) and cynicism(p<0.01) dimensions and turnover intention(p<0.001). The promotion dimension was negatively correlated with cynicism(p<0.01). The turnover intention was positively correlated with exhaustion and cynicism dimensions of job burnout(p<0.001). A hierarchical regression analysis revealed that i) professional efficacy was a factor to significantly increase job satisfaction, ii) cynicism to significantly decrease their job satisfaction, and iii) exhaustion to significantly increase turnover intention.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the influences of contract foodservice managers' personal characteristics, foodservice characteristics and organizational characteristics on job satisfaction, including interpersonal relationships, self-actualization and promotion opportunity categories. A survey was administered to four hundred contract foodservice managers of five large companies and five small/medium companies in the Seoul and Kyungin areas. The final response rate was 66%(N=265), and the data were analyzed using SPSS Windows(ver. 12.0). The respondents were 76.1% female, average age 28.8 years, and 73.0% were regular workers. Contract foodservices have profit and loss contracts(69.1%), single menu types(59.6%) and buffet serving styles(37.7%). There are significant differences of job satisfaction by some personal characteristic variables(gender, martial status, age, education, position, work hours, period of working for the present company, and payroll per year) and foodservice characteristic variables(type of contract and charge of food costs). In three job satisfaction categories, foodservice managers reported the highest interpersonal relationship satisfaction, following self-actualization satisfaction and promotion opportunity satisfaction in both large companies and small/medium companies. However, foodservice managers of large companies tended to be more satisfied regarding their promotion opportunities than foodservice managers of small/medium companies(p<0.05). Work hours, number of meals served/day, male, workload, communication with the clients, relationship with co-workers, obvious role and autonomy were significant factors to increase the job satisfaction in contract foodservices of large companies. On the other hand, relationships with co-workers and males were significant factors to increase the job satisfaction in contract foodservices of small/medium companies. This research suggests that contract foodservice companies need to understand the characteristics of their managers, foodservices and organizations to enhance the job satisfaction of foodservice managers and to develop specified human resource management strategies that can be applied to each company scale.

  • Since the ambitious declaration of the vision of the Semantic Web, a growing number of studies on semantic search have recently been made. However, we recognize that our community has not so much accomplished despite those efforts. We analyze two underlying problems : a lack of a shared notion of semantic search that guides current research, and a lack of a comprehensive view that envisions future work. Based on this diagnosis, we start by defining semantic search as the process of retrieving desired information in response to user's input using semantic technologies such as ontologies. Then, we propose a classification framework in order for the community to obtain the better understanding of semantic search. The proposed classification framework consists of input processing, target source, search methodology, results ranking, and output data type. Last, we apply our proposed framework to prior studies and suggest future research directions.

  • Objectives: Busan had the highest mortality and the shortest life expectancy at birth among 16 provinces in Korea in 2008 and there were considerable health inequalities within the region. This study was performed to build up a priority setting framework in Healthy City Busan project. Methods: Analytic hierarchy process was used to determine the relative priority weight for different strategic and program dimensions along with the consistency of response. An on-site workshop-based meeting (calculating importance) and online survey (calculating risk) were conducted to obtain data from 8 experts. Results: The results showed that in strategic criteria "active health promotion & diseases prevention" and "building infrastructure for the Health City project" were two most important factors. In program criteria, considering both importance and risk scores, "making a healthy community" and "building community health centers" in disadvantaged areas were a top priority group. In addition, "enacting an ordinance for the Healthy City", "building the infrastructure for health impact assessment" and "making health care safety net for vulnerable population" were also higher priorities group. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that the Healthy City project in Busan should be focused on strengthening health equity and building infrastructure for sustainability of the project.
