Information Professionals Going Beyond the Needful User in Digital Humanities Project Collaboration

  • When information professionals deal with other disciplines in the course of digital humanities projects, they often assume that they are dealing with 'needful users' who have an 'information gap' to fill. This paper argues that the traditional view that information/knowledge is transferred from an information specialist donor to a domain specialist receiver is no longer appropriate in the digital humanities context, where the gap-and-search (or gap-and-filler) approach to information has given way to more direct, explorative engagement with information. The paper asks whether information science and the practising profession are ready for this paradigm shift and examines information science conservatism in two common collaboration scenarios, library support and digital development. It is shown that information science theory still assumes a traditional donor role in both scenarios. How information scientists deal with conservatism in practice is discussed in the example of the Prior project, in which the information science team exerted an ambiguous, hybrid approach with both conservative and non-conservative elements. Finally, two rather hypothetical answers are offered to the question of how information professionals should approach scholarly collaboration in the digital humanities context, where users have ceased to be supplicants. From a purely pragmatic perspective, information scientists need to shift their focus from information needs to research practices and the implications of these practices for digital information systems. More fundamentally, the emergence of digital humanities challenges information professionals to transform information systems designed for searching into digital objects that can be explored more freely by the digital humanities community.

  • Idaho National Laboratory (INL) announced at COP27 it would reach net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2031. As a Nuclear, Energy and Environment, and National Homeland Security laboratory, the predominant solution to closing the clean energy gap will include nuclear as a safe, clean, reliable and affordable electricity source with the additional benefit of producing heat and hydrogen to fuel INL's large transportation fleet. INL's collaboration first vs. competition is essential to the program's success. The focused actions in INL's Nuclear Roadmap include: Infrastructure, Licensing/Regulatory, Financial, Time to Market, Fuel Cycle and Public Confidence/Communications. The roadmap also includes nuclear technology innovations and creative partnerships with utility providers, regulators, businesses, community members, and Indigenous Peoples to accelerate deployment of advanced reactors. Through development of the Net-Zero Nuclear Roadmap, INL will offer a model to provide safe and secure energy for the nation and the world by: (1) establishing the necessary infrastructure on its 890-square mile site to support demonstration, (2) showing proven pathways through the licensing and regulation process, (3) partnering with utilities to ensure commercial application, and (4) collaborating with industry to site new technologies.

Is the ASEAN Economic Community Relevant To Gen Y Professionals? A Comparative Study on Attitudes and Participation of Young Professionals in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam on ASEAN Economic Integration

  • The main objective of this study was to investigate the awareness and perception of young professionals in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam countries on the ASEAN Economic Community (hereafter, AEC). Data from a survey of 575 young professionals, with approximately equal distribution from each country, were collected in June and July 2015. Research findings revealed that the knowledge and understanding of the AEC among the Gen Y professionals were still marginal. Although they lack awareness, young professionals had a good impression and perception of the AEC in connection with important benefits for them individually as well as for their country. Finally, the study revealed that the Gen Y professionals showed some level of optimistic attitude that they could succeed in the AEC as they thought that they were quite well prepared, having sufficient skills to work or to do business in other ASEAN countries.

Diet and Nutrition among Asian Americans: Challenges and Opportunities

  • Asian Americans is a minority population contributing approximately 4% to the total population of the United States, however it is one of the fastest growing populations. Although Asian Americans as a group have socioeconomic profiles that are similar to white Americans, significant variations exists within and across Asian ethnic groups. The top ten leading causes of death for Asian Americans includes cancer, heart diseases, stroke, unintentional injuries, diabetes, influenza and pneumonia, chronic lower respiratory disease, suicide, nephritis, and septicemia. The prevalence of obesity is lower among Asian Americans, however this should be taken with considerations specific to Asians. High salt and low calcium consumption seem to be dietary risk factors for Asian Americans, although dietary patterns are changing with acculturation. Factors affecting dietary patterns are discussed in this paper. A proactive nutrition education approach for Asian Americans should be promoting maintaining 'healthy' aspects of ethnic diets and adopting 'healthy' American diets. Collaboration with nutrition educators in Asian countries would be helpful to overcome limited resources available for researching and developing nutrition education messages and materials for Asian Americans.   • Objective: This study investigated the awareness of occupational therapy in the community in occupational therapy majors through a survey. This purpose is to investigate the awareness of occupational therapy in the community among occupational therapy majors and establish a theoretical foundation. Methods: The research subjects were surveyed among occupational therapy majors at M University living in Gyeongsangnam-do, and analyzed 141 questionnaires from September 2023 to December 2023. Results: The results of this study that education and awareness improvement are needed to increase awareness of occupational therapy in the community, and it was found that continuing education and case sharing are effective. Activation of home rehabilitation and continuous health management. This institutional development can induce employment activity through community rehabilitation, and activate programs in connection with adult day care centers. For the development of community occupational therapy, participation in education and development of customized treatment are necessary, and patient It should be developed to help with movement and movement, and it has been shown that it can also affect the quality of life of patients. In addition, cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence are expected to be applied to remote support, telemedicine, etc., and are applied to dementia, cognitive patients, and central nervous system patients. In order to institutionalize occupational therapy in the community, it is helpful in daily life, nursing, and management. It was said that this would be helpful for community participation. Conclusion: This study investigated the awareness of occupational therapy in the community among occupational therapy majors. Education and awareness improvement are needed to increase awareness of occupational therapy in the community. Education to improve the professionalism of occupational therapists, strengthening connectivity with other majors, and local organizations. It is believed that collaboration with the local community and institutional supplementation tailored to the needs of the local community were necessary.

A Study on the Development of Professional Learning Community in Mathematics Based on the Collaboration with University and Its Affiliated Elementary School (대학과 협력한 초등수학 교사학습공동체의 발달 과정에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explain the long term growth and development of elementary teachers' Professional Learning Communities(PLC) about mathematics implemented on an institutional basis. Especially, it is meaningful to analyze and present the development process and characteristics of PLC, which was started by the basis on the collaboration of a National University of Education and its affiliated elementary school. In this study, PLC activities during three years were analyzed according to the capacities and dimensions of a professional learning community. The developmental capacity of the PLC analyzed in this study can be summarized as follows. In the first year, development of organizational competence in terms of capacity, resources, structure, and system of exchanges was the main factor in personal competence, and the development of individual competence began to share collective learning and practice. In the second year, personal exchanges were active in all the topics of activities, and personal level competence was activated such that more activities of critical knowledge formation were performed on an individual level. On the basis of the development of the individual level formed in the second, individual competence and organizational capacity developed. Factors that have influenced the development of capacities of PLC include: disclosure of activities outside the community, participation in outsiders, provision of procedures to share equal participation and leadership, voluntary and critical participation of teachers, improvement of mathematics teaching methods, sharing themes and visions.

  • In order for public education to iud its balance, stronger arts education program is necessary. Successful delivery of arts education program is expected when it is implemented in cooperation with public library, which is at the heart of community culture and education. Under these assumptions, this study determined current status of arts education programs by investigating public library documents. The research also verified the prospect of facilitating the programs with public library support with survey. Based on the findings, problems in current public library were identified and alternatives for seamless collaboration with schools were recommended.

Analysis of AI Model Hub

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has recently grown explosively and is being used in a variety of application fields. Accordingly, the number of AI models is rapidly increasing. AI models are adapted and developed to fit a variety of data types, tasks, and environments, and the variety and volume of models continues to grow. The need to share models and collaborate within the AI community is becoming increasingly important. Collaboration is essential for AI models to be shared and improved publicly and used in a variety of applications. Therefore, with the advancement of AI, the introduction of Model Hub has become more important, improving the sharing, reuse, and collaboration of AI models and increasing the utilization of AI technology. In this paper, we collect data on the model hub and analyze the characteristics of the model hub and the AI models provided. The results of this research can be of great help in developing various multimodal AI models in the future, utilizing AI models in various fields, and building services by fusing various AI models.

The Alternatives and Perspectives on Family-friendly Support in Business for Care Work-Focused on Community Involvement and Role of the Family-friendly Support Center- (기업의 가족친화적 돌봄지원사업의 대안과 방향 -지역사회확대와 가족친화지원센터의 역할을 중심으로-)

  • Many leading companies provide family-friendly policies for a good work-family balance and to increase the productivity of their workers. The workers receive such benefits as family leaves or financial support for caring for their dependents. But the employees need much more support than these benefits to properly care for their families. This study examines the role of the companies in the expansion of family-friendly policies to the community. A few companies see community relations-such as investing in community programs-as linked to work-family policies. Accordingly, this study suggests the best practices and alternatives of many companies. This study also examines the role and perspectives of the Family-Friendly Support Center as an organization that can lead the community involvement of the business. This center can promote the company's collaboration and network of stakeholders.

Development and Suggestion of Integrated Collaboration System to Revitalize Community-Based National Science Museums (지역사회 기반 전국과학관 활성화를 위한 통합이용제도 개발 및 제언)

  • In order for the science museum to play a role as a foundation for strengthening the national creative capability, which is the core of the advanced national development paradigm, it is important to gather the capacities of the nation's science museums and establish a platform to cooperate in a shared value system. Science museum is an independent operating system, and there is a lack of strong connections among national, public and private science museums. The existing integrated collaboration system of science museums-centered can be studied first and promoted to develop programs for the free school year according to a specific topic. The same system of science museum-inclusion which link local cultural institutions or cultural places as science culture program were also studied to do the same purpose. On the basis of problems drawn from studies of integrated collaboration systems of each participating science museum, we proposed a convergence integrated collaboration systems of science museum-centered and science museum-inclusion. To this end, data were collected from practitioners of 7 representing science museums including 5 national ones. In order to suggest improvements, we also contacted five international science museums to collect the exemplary cases. Considering the regional characteristics, science museum-inclusion integrated collaboration systems considering the cultural characteristics and the science museum-centered integrated collaboration systems for free school semesters, were developed and tried by practitioners who participated in this research. It was found that integrated collaboration system can be more activated for the community. This suggests that support from the national level or at the level of regional autonomy is essential and the connection with the curriculum is necessary for the integrated collaboration system program. Finally, professional experts such as program development or commentator can be a decisive role.
