  • ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) is an advanced system which can effectively handle the current transportation problems. DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) is considered as a promising technology since it has the capability of two-way communication and can serves to implement various ITS services. In this paper, we study DSRC based ITS telecommunication traffic analysis and suggest an architecture and network design of telecommunication network for DSRC services. We also perform a simulation study to validate the proposed network architecture and design for Metropolitan Seoul Area with various network alternatives. In this simulation, we use actual traffic data and road characteristics from Seoul area and use our DSRC service configuration.

  • This paper proposes a novel low-cost CMOS temperature sensor for controlling the self-refresh period of a mobile DRAM. In this temperature sensor, ring oscillators composed of cascaded inverter stages are used to obtain the temperature of the chip. This method is highly area-efficient, simple and easy for IC implementation as compared to traditional temperature sensors based on analog bandgap reference circuits. The proposed CMOS temperature sensor was fabricated with 80 nm 3-metal DRAM process. It occupies a silicon area of only about less than $0.02\;mm^2$ at $10^{\circ}C$ resolution with under 5uW power consumption at 1 sample/s processing rate. This area is about 33% of conventional temperature sensor in mobile DRAM.

  • This paper presents our implemented, synthesized and tested on demand and partial reconfiguration approaches for FIR filters using Xilinx Virtex FPGAs. Our scope is to implement a low-power, area-efficient autonomously reconfigurable digital signal processing architecture that is tailored for the realization of arbitrary response FIR filters on Xilinx Virtex4 FPGAs. The implementation of design addresses area efficiency and flexibility allowing dynamically inserting and/or removing the partial modules to implement the partial reconfigurable FIR filters with various taps. This partial reconfigurable FIR filter design shows the configuration time improvement, good area efficiency and flexibility by using the dynamic partial reconfiguration method.

  • This paper presents a new design methodology of networked control system using CAN(Controller Area Network). Feedback control systems having control loops closed through a network are called networked control systems. We design CAN nodes which can transmit control and monitoring data through network bus and apply these to networked control system design. We analyze the variation of stability property according to network-induced delay and determine a proper sampling period of networked control system that preserves stability performance. The results of the experimental example validate effectiveness of our networked control system.

  • Over the last 10 years, the number of cancer survivors in South Korea has reached nearly one million with a survival rate of 49.4%. However, integrated supportive care for cancer survivors is lagging. One area in which the current cancer control policy needs updating is in the utilization of information and communication technology (ICT). The remarkable progress in the field of ICT over the past 10 years presents exciting new opportunities for health promotion. Recent communication innovations are conducive to the exchange of meta-information, giving rise to a new service area and transforming patients into active medical consumers. Consequently, such innovations encourage active participation in the mutual utilization and sharing of high-quality information. However, these benefits from new ICTs will almost certainly not be equally available to all, leading to so-called communication inequalities where cancer survivors from lower socioeconomic classes will likely have more limited access to the best means of making use of the health information. Therefore, most essentially, emphasis must be placed on helping cancer survivors and their caregivers utilize such advances in ICT to create a more efficient flow of health information, thereby reducing communication inequalities and expanding social support. Once we enhance access to health information and better manage the quality of information, as a matter of fact, we can expect an alleviation of the health inequalities faced by cancer survivors.

  • With the development of wireless communication and sensor technology, sensor network applications in various fields have been applied. To minimize the power consumption of sensors in sensor network is one of the important factors in oder to extend the system life. The power consumption of each sensor within sensor network can be different depending on the communication method between head(sink) node and its node. In this paper, we propose a new hierarchical communication method to minimize the power consumption of each sensor. The proposed method divides the area of sensor network into four areas using divide-and-conquer method and selects the nearest node to head node in each area as a child node of the node. Next the hierarchical tree in the same way is constructed recursively until each area is no longer divided. Each sensor can communicate to head node using this hierarchical tree. The proposed results were compared with the previous methods through simulation, and showed excellent results in the energy efficiency of sensor network.

  • In this paper, we considered the scenario that one cellular link and muti-D2D links share the same frequency resource which can improve the spectrum efficiency during uplink communication in LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced network. In order to reduce the interference caused to the D2D users, we set DME (Discovery and Management Entity) which can send the area information to eNB(evolved Node B). We proposed a resource allocation scheme by using these assistant devices to reduce the interference that CUE (Cellular User Equipment) causes to DUE Rx (D2D UE Receiver). Basing on the area information, in order to mitigate the interference among the D2D pairs which share the same frequency resource, a power control scheme has been proposed. The simulation results prove that by using the DMEs, the proposed schemes improve the stability of D2D communication and bring the highest performance of the communication system when comparing to the other different schemes.

  • In this paper, we propose a private multimedia caching scheme based on wireless local area network (WLAN) to improve the quality of service for high capacity and high quality multimedia streaming services which are recently increasing and to reduce the traffic load of core networks. The proposed caching scheme stores multimedia in the storage device mounted on WLAN APs and provides streaming services on its own without Internet connection in accordance with the request from clients. We have implemented a test network based on real commercial networks and measured the performance of the proposed caching scheme in terms of frames per second (FPS) and buffering time. According to the performance measurement results, the proposed caching scheme can reduce the average buffering time by 73.3% compared to the conventional streaming scheme. In addition, the proposed caching scheme can also improve the average FPS by 71.3% compared to the conventional streaming scheme.
