In this paper, we propose an Active Shape Model (ASM) and Lucas-Kanade (LK) optical flow-based feature extraction and analysis method for analyzing the emotional features from facial images. Considering the facial emotion feature regions are described by Facial Action Coding System, we construct the feature-related shape models based on the combination of landmarks and extract the LK optical flow vectors at each landmarks based on the centre pixels of motion vector window. The facial emotion features are modelled by the combination of the optical flow vectors and the emotional states of facial image can be estimated by the probabilistic estimation technique, such as Bayesian classifier. Also, we extract the optimal emotional features that are considered the high correlation between feature points and emotional states by using common spatial pattern (CSP) analysis in order to improvise the operational efficiency and accuracy of emotional feature extraction process.

Brain-computer interface based on motor imagery is a system that transforms a subject's intention into a control signal by classifying EEG signals obtained from the imagination of movement of a subject's limbs. For the new paradigm, we do not know which positions are activated or not. A simple approach is to use as many channels as possible. The problem is that using many channels causes other problems. When applying a common spatial pattern (CSP), which is an EEG extraction method, many channels cause an overfit problem, in addition there is difficulty using this technique for medical analysis. To overcome these problems, we suggest a binary particle swarm optimization with channel impact factor in order to select channels close to the most important channels as channel selection method. This paper examines whether or not channel impact factor can improve accuracy by Support Vector Machine(SVM).

In this paper, a method of mood classification based on user brainwaves is proposed for real-time application in commercial services. Unlike conventional mood analyzing systems, the proposed method focuses on classifying real-time user moods by analyzing the user's brainwaves. Applying brainwave-related research in commercial services requires two elements - robust performance and comfortable fit of. This paper proposes a filter based on Regularized Common Spatial Patterns (RCSP) and presents its use in the implementation of mood classification for a music service via a wireless consumer electroencephalography (EEG) device that has only 14 pins. Despite the use of fewer pins, the proposed system demonstrates approximately 10% point higher accuracy in mood classification, using the same dataset, compared to one of the best EEG-based mood-classification systems using a skullcap with 32 pins (EU FP7 PetaMedia project). This paper confirms the commercial viability of brainwave-based mood-classification technology. To analyze the improvements of the system, the changes of feature variations after applying RCSP filters and performance variations between users are also investigated. Furthermore, as a prototype service, this paper introduces a mood-based music list management system called MyMusicShuffler based on the proposed mood-classification method.
The object of this study is upper class house in Yang-dong village with the purpose of spatial-sociological study of traditional Korean architecture. Space is the basic element of architecture and is fundamental for understanding architecture. Space, however, can be better understood through its social context rather than through its physical or psychological attributes. Space exists in a society, providing the physical environment which frames it Social environment affects the thoght of people who are members of that society. Space is built by the people in a society and is affected by their thought. Spatial-sociological study can explain a mutual relation between people and space through context. It defines characteristics of space based on mutual relations which exist among the people, the culture of society and the environment of society but also having a sociological component, study of architectural space should consider the social context. Since architectural space is built on social and cultural bases, to understand it requires various methods of study Spatial-sociological analysis is one alternative. Using space syntax, this study analyzes houses in Yang-dong village by not only defining attributes of individual houses, but also common attributes of houses in the village. Based on common attributes of houses in the village, the attributes of Yang-dong village houses can be re-defined within the social context. the results from a spatial-sociological analysis of upper class housing of the Yang-dong village are as follows; (1) Related to confucian ideas in Chosun Dynasty : A house has a dualistic center organized with 'an-chae' and 'sarang-chae'. 'an-chae' space is organized unsociably from outside. (2) Related to various space pattern of Yang-dong village House in the Chosun Dynasty period :As variations in the types of space pattern, the village house exhibit different attributes.

It is well knowns that based on the CSP (Common Spatial Pattern) algorithm, the linear projection of an EEG (Electroencephalography) signal can be made to spaces that optimize the discriminant between two patterns. Sharing disadvantages from linear time invariant systems, CSP suffers from the non-stationary nature of EEGs causing the performance of the classification in a BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) system to drop significantly when comparing the training data and test data. The author has suggested a simple idea based on the parallel model of CSP filters to improve the performance of BCI systems. The model was tested with a simple CSP algorithm (without any elaborate regularizing methods) and a perceptron learning algorithm as a classifier to determine the improvement of the system. The simulation showed that the parallel model could improve classification performance by over 10% compared to conventional CSP methods.
In this study, we evaluated the EEG based BCI algorithm using common spatial pattern to find realistic applicability using neurofeedback EEG based BCI algorithm - EEG mode, feature vector calculation, the number of selected channels, 3 types of classifier, window size is evaluated for 10 subjects. The experimental results have been evaluated depending on conditioned experiment whether neurofeedback is used or not In case of using neurofeedback, a few subjects presented exceptional but general tendency presented the performance improvement Through this study, we found a motivation of development for the specific classifier based BCI system and the assessment evaluation system. We proposed a need for an optimized algorithm applicable to the robust motor imagery evaluation system with more useful functionalities.
Until now, several comparative approaches were developed within the studies of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese traditional housings. In those studies, however, each space in the traditional houses was only treated in individual and fragmentary manners, and they lacked the interpretation of the topological attribute of each space within a holistic structure organized by unit spaces, and of the cultural-behavioral meaning of them within a holistic space-use pattern of the housing. The topological attribute and behavioral meaning can be analyzed and interpreted with the quantitative spatial analysis method such as Space Syntax. This study aims to analyze the traditional housings in Korea, China and Japan in the holistic aspect of spatial structure using Space Syntax, and to compare the analysis results with relating the structural attributes to the space-use pattern. In this study, the 'Banga' in Chosun era, the 'Siheyuan' in Ming-Ching era, and the 'Shoinzukuri' in Edo era were selected as the analysis subjects. The integration indices were calculated from the convex maps representing the subjects, and the common and different attributes of the three subjects were defined through comparative analyses.

This paper proposes a way to measure the displacement of a multi-point by using a pattern recognition from video signal. Generally in measuring displacement, gab sensor, which is a displacement sensor, is used. However, it is difficult to measure displacement by using a common sensor in places where it is unsuitable to attach a sensor, such as high-temperature areas or radioactive places. In this kind of places, non-contact methods should be used to measure displacement and in this study, images of CCD camera were used. When multi-point is measure by using a pattern recognition, it is possible to measure displacement with a non-contact method. It is simple to install and multi-point displacement measuring device so that it is advantageous to solve problems of spatial constraints.
This study has a subject for the detached houses and mass housing ( alias dictus, Apartment) on the Dae Gu urban area, and has a process of surveying and analyzing the actual using states of dweller in the residential space and has an object of finding the behavioral pattern of the spatial using corresponded to the living activities. As its result, a cultural searching for urban housing is disciplined with the positive study for surveying the living contents emerged form the residential spaces. Limited into sleeping, eating, hosting, familiarity and family ritual, where and how the living activities is appeared according as the housing types and floor types, and what different and common features of its spatial using is possessed, is focused on this study. As Conclusion, it is found that each living activities are differed in the spatial using behavior according to the housing and floor types, but genetically are inherited by the traditional custom. Thus two behavial directions of dweller in public residential architecture have to be reconsidered in the urban housing culture.

Accurate characterization of terrestrial precipitation variation from high spatial resolution satellite sensors is beneficial for urban hydrology and microscale agriculture modeling, as well as natural disasters (e.g., urban flooding) early warning. However, the widely-used top-down approach for precipitation retrieval from microwave satellites is limited in several hydrological and agricultural applications due to their coarse spatial resolution. In this research, we aim to apply a novel bottom-up method, the parameterized SM2RAIN, where precipitation can be estimated from soil moisture signals based on an inversion of water balance model, to generate high spatial resolution terrestrial precipitation estimates at 0.01º grid (roughly 1-km) from the C-band SAR Sentinel-1. This product was then tested against a common reanalysis-based precipitation data and a domestic rain gauge network from the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) over central South Korea, since a clear difference between climatic types (coasts and mainlands) and land covers (croplands and mixed forests) was reported in this area. The results showed that seasonal precipitation variability strongly affected the SM2RAIN performances, and the product derived from separated parameters (rainy and non-rainy seasons) outperformed that estimated considering the entire year. In addition, the product retrieved over the mainland mixed forest region showed slightly superior performance compared to that over the coastal cropland region, suggesting that the 6-day time resolution of S1 data is suitable for capturing the stable precipitation pattern in mainland mixed forests rather than the highly variable precipitation pattern in coastal croplands. Future studies suggest comparing this product to the traditional top-down products, as well as evaluating their integration for enhancing high spatial resolution precipitation over entire South Korea.
