  • Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) which is one of the common chemotherapy related toxicity poses a significant clinical challenge. Here we conducted a prospective pilot study to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture on CIPN. Patients with CIPN were administered acupuncture procedure with continuation of previous conventional medication. Acupuncture procedures were conducted three times per week for 3 weeks. We assessed patients with Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) v4.0, Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group Neurotoxicity (FACT/GOG-Ntx) at the time of baseline and every week after the acupuncture procedures. Total 5 patients were included and treated with acupuncture. CTCAE grades were the same of 2 in all patients. VAS mean value changed from 5.2 to 3.2, and FACT/GOG-Ntx total score that suggests the higher relates to better quality of life changed from 93.3 to 110 as mean value at the end of the 3rd week, though this index difference did not show any statistically significant difference. This pilot study suggests that acupuncture procedure may have a role for CIPN treatment. Launching a more larger and properly controlled study will be required to ascertain the efficacy of acupuncture.

The efficacy of treatment was measured by VAS, NDI and MENQOL scores of before and after 30 days to start treatment. Results: Both group A and B represented effective improvement in VAS and NDI of neck pain and MENQOL scores. And group A was more effective than B group statistically. Conclusions: It was suggested that Carthami-Flos Pharmacopuncture treatment might have effect on posterior neck pain treatment of menopausal women.

  • Objectives: It was aimed to investigate the basic action mechanism of the autoimmune diseases and common features of all diseases. Autoimmune disease are classified organ specific and systemic. Methods: These diseases are seen systemic and disease start locations, origins seem differently. This makes learning and understanding difficult. Autoimmune diseases investigated for easier understanding. It was noticed that, autoimmune diseases' starting places are specific and same all of them. This remarkable point is very important for acupuncture also. So; whole literatüre was researched and important point was found. Results: Whole autoimmune diseases are attack to mesodermal layers and mesodermal origin organs of the body's. The common property of all these disease are same; Diseases start from the mesoderm and mesodermal layer even though their organ origins' belongs to different germ layer. From this point of view, we were able to classify autoimmune diseases simply and it was planned how can we effect body in this context with acupuncture. Conclusion: And, when immunity comes into question, induction of adaptive immunity is depend on antigen presentation to T cells and this situation take place in the lymph node (LN) and also in the skin. When we sank the acupuncture needle into skin, signals create and start mesodermal contacts, during this time mesenchymal origin' autoimmune cells are regulated with this signals.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to review articles concerning acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for De Quervain's Stenosing Tenosynovitis. Methods : On-line databases including Cochrane Library, Pubmed, CNKI, NDSL and OASIS were searched to identify articles concerning acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for De Quervain's Stenosing Tenosynovitis (DQST). Several duplicated articles and those not relevant to this topic were excluded, as were review articles and commentaries. Results : Fifty-one studies were identified, which included 28 clinical case studies with 1,227 patients and 23 randomized controlled trials with 2,040 patients. In these studies, acupuncture, acupotomy, moxibustion, pharmacopuncture, and laser acupuncture were used as DQST interventions. Although DQST is a common disease seen in clinical practice, only four of the 51 studies we identified in our search were published in Korean academic journals, all of which used pharmacopuncture. Conclusion : Although the results of the studies to date provide evidence that acupuncture and moxibustion are effective treatments for De Quervain's Stenosing Tenosynovitis, the absence of a standard, objective evaluation tool, and a lack of reporting on the negative side-effects associated with treatment remain important factors that should be addressed in future studies.

  • Purpose ; Iension-type headache is the most common headache. The effect of acupuncture for headache is already known, but the methods and technique of acupuncture is varied. Choice of acupuncture points is mostly relied on experience. Moreover, objective evaluation of acupuncture effects is lacking. Objective ; The objective of this study is to assess the difference of effects between dry needling on trigger point and dry needling on remote acupuncture point. The patients who were diagnosed as tension-type headache and administrated herb-medication were divided into two groups: Trigger point dry needling group and remote acupuncture point dry needling group, matching in sex, age. The degree of pain was measured by visual analogue scale(VAS) two times, before and after dry needling. Conclusion ; VAS showed significant decrement after dry needling on tension-type headache in both groups, but there was no statistically significant difference between two groups according to sex, age and duration. In addition, it is not statistically approved that there exists the difference of VAS between two groups about the treatment effects.

This study was undertaken to determine if there is any evidence for the clinical efficacy of acupuncture for treatment of nocturnal enuresis. Methods : Author conducted a computerized literature search in following database: Medline(via Pubmed), NDSL. There were no restrictions on the language of publication. The data were extracted in a standardized, predefined manner and assessed critically. Results : 4 article was selected. Acupuncture is composed of general acupuncture, electro, laser. • Objectives : This research aimed to verify the validities of contraindicated acupoints in acupuncture or moxibustion treatments in Taipingshenghuifang and Tongrenzhenjiujing. Methods : We investigated contraindicated acupoints when performing needling or moxibustion in Taipingshenghuifang and Tongrenzhenjiujing, then verified them in various literatures and today's medical knowledge. Results : In Taipingshenghuifang and Tongrenzhenjiujing, 15 acupoints were described to need a careful approach in acupuncture treatment, and 24 acupoints were described so in moxibustion treatment in common. And additionally GB1 was described to need a careful moxibustion treatment in Taipingshenghuifang. Most of the descriptions for the contradindicated acupoints can be explained based on medical knowledge. Conclusions : The contraindicated acupoints in acupuncture or moxibustion treatments in Taipingshenghuifang and Tongrenzhenjiujing seem to have been classified based on the experience of the doctors at that time. Therefore they may be referred to for safe acupuncture or moxibustion treatments at these points.
