  • Recent advances in radiation transport algorithms, computer hardware performance, and parallel computing make the clinical use of Monte Carlo based dose calculations possible. Monte Carlo treatment planning requires accurate beam information as input to generate accurate dose distributions. The procedures to obtain this accurate beam information are called "commissioning", which includes accelerator head modeling. In this study, we would like to investigate how much accurately Monte Carlo based dose calculations can predict the measured beam data in various conditions. The Siemens 6MV photon beam and the BEAM Monte Carlo code were used. The comparisons including the percentage depth doses and off-axis profiles of open fields and wedges, output factors will be presented.

  • TMR(triple modular redundant) digital excitation system with simulator is developed for tuning optimal control parameters during commissioning test and coping with system faults rapidly. A new system which mocks up virtual generator, turbine, grid can simulate as if excitation system is connected to a real generator system by setting four switches. The maintenance crew using the simulator is able to test perfectly the phase controller rectifiers, field breaker, sequence relays as well as TMR controller of the excitation system. Commissioning and performance results about the excitation system with simulator is discussed. The trial product was installed and operated at a 500MW thermal power plant after the commissioning test.

  • The construction of the ITER tokamak machine is ongoing at a 77% process rate to achieve the first plasma in 2025. The 18 sets of power supply systems comprising 400 MVA thyristor AC/DC converters for the superconducting magnets supplied by Korea (KO) are being installed with other systems, such as PF converters (China), DC busbars (Russia), and cooling water systems (India), in two buildings (Europe). The system interfaces have been defined during the design stage, and the systems have been manufactured. However, during the on-site installation work, several installation and integration issues emerged due to the manufacturing tolerance and design mistakes. To continue the installation and testing, the engineers of each system resolved the interface issues, planned the commissioning, and integrated the test plan. This paper describes the on-site installation status and issues and the commissioning plan of KO AC/DC converters.

  • This paper presents the self-commissioning for surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed strategy executes three tests with a standard inverter drive system. To do this, synchronous d-q axes currents are appropriately controlled for each test. From the three tests, armature resistance, armature inductance, equivalent iron loss resistance, and emf coefficient are identified automatically. The validity of the proposed strategy is confirmed by experimental results.

  • The main components of the KSTAR helium refrigeration system (HRS) can be classified into the warm compression system (WCS) and the cryogenic devices according to the operating temperature levels. The WCS itself consists of the compressor station (C/S) and the oil removal system (ORS). The process helium is compressed from 1 bar to 22 bar maximum in the C/S and downstream, the ORS removes the oil mixed in the helium to less than 10 ppbw as per the operation criteria of the cryogenic devices of the KSTAR HRS. After the installation, the pre-commissioning and commissioning activities were started on July, 2007. Before the start-up of the C/S, vibration measurement and the skid reinforcement jobs were performed for stable operation of the C/S. The results of the WCS performance tests met the requirements of the KSTAR HRS but satisfied the vibration level criteria only at the compressors' full load condition.

  • Students in the NCO department who have concluded the agreement with army headquarters, exercise camp education environment and the method on how to carry out the education. In order to raise awareness on NCOs and obtain pride as a future army NCO, army field training is held once a year. The stress on the education is the establishment of national security awareness, proficiency in basic army training, awareness of NCO pride, and basic posture as a soldier. The demand for commissioning only those with satisfactory army field training results is becoming stronger. The satisfaction of the education states a clear goal as a future NCO. This army field training has a meaning when the demands and expectations of the trainee leads to a form of commissioning.

  • Integrated management systems (IMS) that control entire sewerage facilities in the upper reaches of multi-purpose dams are being constructed for their efficient operation and management. However, because the IMS installed in a watershed belong to several local government bodies, significant conflict would be expected between stakeholders in the process of deciding who should control the IMS after completion of the construction that was initially implemented under the support of central government. The objective of this study was to suggest a decision making to determine who should control the IMS for sewerage facilities in the upper reaches of multipurpose dams in Korea, using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Three alternatives were selected to determine who should control the IMS for sewerage facilities: commissioning to public corporations, commissioning to private corporations, and a role-sharing partnership. In using the AHP technique, the emphasis was on comparing public interests, economics, efficiency, sustainability, specialty, grievance mediation and receptiveness. As a result, building a role-sharing partnership received the highest score. Commissioning to a special institute was also suggested as an alternative as this showed a score similar to that of building a role-sharing partnership.
