Effect of Gas Diffusion Layer Compression and Inlet Relative Humidity on PEMFC Performance (기체확산층 압축률과 상대습도가 고분자전해질 연료전지 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Gas diffusion layer (GDL) compression is important parameter of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) performance to have an effect on contact resistance, reactants transfer to electrode, water content in membrane and electrode assembly (MEA). In this study, the effect of GDL compression on fuel cell performance was investigated for commercial products, JNT20-A3. Polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was performed at different relative humidity and compression ratio using electrode area of 25 ㎠ unit cell. The contact resistance was reduced to 8, 30 mΩ·㎠ and membrane hydration was increased as GDL compression increase from 18.6% to 38.1% at relative humidity of 100 and 25%, respectively. It was identified through ohmic resistance change at relative humidity conditions that as GDL compression increased, water back-diffusion from cathode and electrolyte membrane hydration was increased because GDL porosity was decreased.

  • In this paper, in order to minimize limitations such as signal interference and positioning errors in existing indoor positioning systems, a smart LED-based positioning system for excellent line-of-sight radio environments and precise location tracking is proposed to improve accuracy. An IEEE 802.4 Zigbee module is mounted on the SMPS board of a smart LED; RSSI and LQI signals are received from a moving tag, and the system is configured to transmit the measured data to the positioning server through a gateway. For the experiment, the necessary hardware, such as the gateway and the smart LED module, were separately designed, and the experiment was conducted after configuring the system in an external field office. The positioning error was within 70cm as a result of performing complex calculations in the positioning server after transmitting a vector value of the moving object obtained from the direction sensor, together with a signal from the moving object received by the smart LED. The result is a significantly improved positioning error, compared to an existing short-range wireless communications-based system, and shows the level at which commercial products can be implemented.

The impaired redox status and activated nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2/antioxidant response element pathway in wooden breast myopathy in broiler chickens

  • Objective: Wooden breast (WB) is a novel myopathy affecting modern broiler chickens, which causes substantial economic losses in the poultry industry. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of WB abnormality on meat quality, redox status, as well as the expression of genes of the nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway. Methods: A total of 80 broilers (Ross 308, 42 days of age, about 2.6 kg body weight) raised at Jiujin farm (Suqian, Jiangsu, China) were used. Twelve unaffected (no detectable hardness of the breast area) and twelve WB-affected (diffuse remarkable hardness in the breast muscle) birds were selected from the commercial broiler farm according to the criteria proposed by previous studies. Results: The results indicated that WB showed histological lesions characterized by fiber degeneration and fibrosis, along with an increase of muscle fiber diameter (p<0.05). Moreover, higher pH value, lightness, yellowness, drip loss and cooking loss were observed in the WB group (p<0.05). Compared with the normal breast (NOR) group, the WB group showed higher formation of reactive oxygen species (p<0.05), increased level of oxidation products and antioxidant activities (p<0.05), accompanied with mitochondrial damages and lower mitochondrial membrane potential (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the relative mRNA expressions of Nrf2 and its downstream antioxidant genes including heme oxygenase-1, NAD(P)H qui none dehydrogenase 1, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and glutamate-cysteine ligase were higher than those of the NOR group (p<0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, WB myopathy impairs meat quality by causing oxidative damages and mitochondrial dysfunction in broilers, even though the activated Nrf2/antioxidant response element pathway provides protection for the birds.

  • The mathematical modeling applying experimental coefficients to a conventional model was validated through the hydraulic test for the components and the full system of a small-sized liquid rocket engine's propellant supply system. According to the simulations, pressures difference for the fluid resistance components and the pump were mainly predicted. In order to improve the modeling accuracy, the loss coefficients obtained by the empirical method were applied to the modeling. Based on the governing equation of the flow or the well known empirical equation, the method of deriving the empirical coefficients was summarized and the coefficients were presented for the commercial products used in this study. The prediction results by modeling were in good agreement with the experimental data. Through the comparison with the experimental data, the factors affecting the accuracy of the simulation were analyzed and improving methods of the accuracy was proposed.

The User Perception in ASMR Marketing Content through Social Media Text-Mining: ASMR Product Review Content vs ASMR How-to Content (텍스트 마이닝을 활용한 ASMR 콘텐츠 분야에 따른 소비자 인식 및 구전효과 차이점 분석: ASMR 제품리뷰 및 ASMR How-to 콘텐츠 중심으로)

  • Purpose Nowadays, Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is rapidly growing in popularity and increasingly appearing in marketing. Not even in TV commercial advertisement, ASMR also fast growing in one-person media communication, many brands and social media influencers used ASMR for their marketing contents. The purpose of this study is to measure consumers' perceptions about the products in ASMR marketing content and compare the differences in communication effect of ASMR content creator between product review and how-to in the same Macro tier influencer - the YouTuber that has 10,000-100,000 subscribers. Design/methodology/approach The research methods selected ASMRtist that do product review content and how-to content, Text comments data was collected from 200 videos of tech-device review videos and beauty-fashion videos. A total of 52,833 text comments were analyzed by applying the LDA topic modeling algorithm and social network analysis. Findings Through the result, we can know that ASMR is good at taking attention of viewers with ASMR triggers. In the Tech device reviews field, ASMR viewers also focus on the product like product's performance and purchase. However, there are many topics related to reaction of ASMR sound, trigger, relaxation. In the Beauty-fashion field, viewers' topics mainly focus on the reaction of the ASMR trigger, response to ASMRtist and other topics are talking about makeup - fashion, product, purchase. From LDA result, many ASMR viewers comment that they feel more comfortable when watching the marketing content that uses ASMR. This result has shown that ASMR marketing contents have a good performance in terms of user watching experience, so applying ASMR can take more consumer intention. And the result of social network analysis showed that product review ASMRtist have a higher communication effectiveness than how-to ASMRtist in the same tier. As an influencer marketing strategy, this study provides information to establish an efficient advertising strategy by using influencers that create ASMR content.

Time-aware Item-based Collaborative Filtering with Similarity Integration

  • In the era of information overload on the Internet, the recommendation system, which is an indispensable function, is a service that recommends products that a user may prefer, and has been successfully provided in various commercial sites. Recently, studies to reflect the rating time of items to improve the performance of collaborative filtering, a representative recommendation technique, are active. The core idea of these studies is to generate the recommendation list by giving an exponentially lower weight to the items rated in the past. However, this has a disadvantage in that a time function is uniformly applied to all items without considering changes in users' preferences according to the characteristics of the items. In this study, we propose a time-aware collaborative filtering technique from a completely different point of view by developing a new similarity measure that integrates the change in similarity values between items over time into a weighted sum. As a result of the experiment, the prediction performance and recommendation performance of the proposed method were significantly superior to the existing representative time aware methods and traditional methods.

  • Microorganisms involved in food fermentation not only improve the aroma and taste of the food, but also enhance its preservation. Thus, they are added as starter cultures to boost the final product quality of commercial fermented foods. Although these microorganisms originate from fermented foods and have a long history of consumption, the European Union recently applied the concept of Qualified presumption of Safety (QPS), which is a safety evaluation system for microorganisms used in food or feed in Europe. The QPS system is a species-level safety system and shares results with the European Novel Food System, a strain-level safety evaluation system. In the United States, microorganisms added to fermented foods are considered as food additives or Generally Recognized as Safe substance. In Korea, food microbe lists are presented at the species level. Moreover, the nation has established a strain-oriented evaluation system that applies temporary safety evaluation methods for food raw materials as well as new raw materials. However, when it comes to microorganisms isolated from traditional fermented foods and other fermented food products, there is no definition of the term "species," and there is a lack of an evaluation system at the species level. Therefore, such an evaluation system for microbial species used in Korean fermented foods is necessary.

Anti-obesity effects of an enzymatic extract of mandarin (Citrus unshiu) peel in 3T3-L1 adipocytes (감귤피 효소적 추출물의 지방세포에서의 항비만 효과)

  • Mandarin peel (MP) is a by-product of the processing of citrus juice or other products. This study aimed to investigate the potential anti-obesity effect of an enzymatic extract of MP on the inhibition of adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. The enzymatic extract (MPCE) was prepared using the commercial food-grade carbohydrase Celluclast. Lipid accumulation and triglyceride levels were significantly lower in MPCE-treated cells than in untreated cells. In addition, MPCE treatment reduced the protein expression levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein α, sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1, and fatty acid-binding protein 4. These results suggest that MPCE inhibits adipogenesis by downregulating the expression levels of adipogenesis-related proteins. Therefore, the current findings demonstrate that MPCE possesses potent anti-obesity properties and could be a potential ingredient in functional food industries.

Analysis of Text Mining of Consumer's Personality Implication Words in Review of Used Transaction Application (중고거래 어플리케이션 <당근마켓> 리뷰텍스트에 나타난 소비자의 인성 함축단어 텍스트마이닝 분석)

  • This study analyzes the use and meaning of consumer personality implication words in the review text of the Used Transaction Application . From of May 2021, the data were collected for the past six months by our Web crawler in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, and a total of 1368 cases were collected first by random sampling, and finally 570 cases were preprocessed. The results are as follows. First, 48.2% of review texts were related to the personality of consumers even though it was a commercial platform of products. Second, the review text is mainly positive, which formed a text network structure based on the keyword 'gratitude'. Third, the review text, which implies consumer character, was divided into two groups: 'extrovert personality' and 'introvert personality' of consumers. And the individuality of the two groups worked together on the platform. In conclusion, we would like to suggest that consumer personality plays an important role in the platform transaction process, that consumer personality will play a role in the services of the platform in the future, and that consumer personality should be studied from various perspectives.

Effect of peanut shell extract supplementation on the growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality of broilers

  • The present study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation of peanut shell extract on the growth performance and physiological properties of broiler chicks. Two diet energy levels (Positive and Negative) and four additives (0.0, 0.05, and 0.1% peanut shell extract and commercial antioxidant) were factorially arranged for eight treatments. The overall weight gain of the broilers was slightly improved at 0.05% for the antioxidant treatments regardless of the diet energy levels, but there was no statistical difference among the treatments (p > 0.05). The carcass characteristics of the broilers, such as cooking loss, crude protein content, antioxidant activity, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values, were improved by the feeding diets containing the 0.05% peanut shell extract. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the dietary supplementation of peanut shell extract did not have a negative effect on the immune responses of the broilers show by the lack of statistical differences in the liver and bursa Fabricious weight and cytokine level among the treatments. From the economic analysis, dietary supplementation of peanut shell extract significantly influenced the compensatory growth and food efficiency and, in turn, led to a decrease in the duration needed to reach 1.5 kg compared to the control. These results suggest the possibility that the peanut shell extract could be used as a functional feed additive by improving the growth performance and carcass characteristics with no detrimental effects on broilers.
