A neural network based adaptive controller design method is proposed for reconfigurable flight control systems in the presence of variations in aerodynamic coefficients or control effectiveness decrease caused by control surface damage. The neural network based adaptive nonlinear controller is developed by making use of the backstepping technique for command following of the angle of attack, sideslip angle, and bank angle. On-line teaming neural networks are implemented to guarantee reconfigurability and robustness to the uncertainties caused by aerodynamic coefficients variations. The main feature of the proposed controller is that the adaptive controller is designed with assumption that not any of the nonlinear functions of the system is known accurately, whereas most of the previous works assume that only some of the nonlinear functions are unknown. Neural networks loam through the weight update rules that are derived from the Lyapunov control theory. The closed-loop stability of the error states is also investigated according to the Lyapunov theory. A nonlinear dynamic model of an F-16 aircraft is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control law.
Palletizing tasks are necessary to promote efficient storage and shipping of boxed products. These tasks, however, involve some of the most monotonous and physically demanding labor in the factory. Thus, many types of robot palletizing systems have been developed, although many robot motion commands still depend on the teach pendant. That is, the operator inputs the motion command lines one by one. This is very troublesome and, most importantly, the user must know how to type the code. We propose a new GUI(Graphic User Interface) for the palletizing system that is more convenient. To do this, we used the PLP "Fast Algorithm" and 3-D auto-patterning visualization. The 3-D patterning process includes the following steps. First, an operator can identify the results of the task and edit them. Second, the operator passes the position values of objects to a robot simulator. Using those positions, a palletizing operation can be simulated. We chose a widely used industrial model and analyzed the kinematics and dynamics to create a robot simulator. In this paper we propose a 3-D patterning algorithm, 3-D robot-palletizing simulator, and modified trajectory generation algorithm, an "overlapped method" to reduce the computing load.

Homing operation can be defined as a series of actions which are necessary for a mobile robot to move from the current position with any arbitrary orientation to a desired position with a specified orientation, while avoiding possible obstacles. In this paper, a homing and obstacle avoidance algorithm for nonholonomic mobile robots is proposed. The proposed algorithm consists of a local goal generator, a discrete state controller, and local path tracking controller based on Aicardi's path following algorithm. In the discrete state controller, 4 states are defined according to the environmental conditions and 4 desired high-level command for the states are given as follows: avoid, wander, home and homing zones. The proposed local goal generator is designed to generate the desired local path by using weighted distance transforms which are newly made to satisfy the nonholonomic constraints of mobile robots. Here, subgoals are also found as vertices of the desired local path. To demonstrate result effectiveness and applicability of the proposed algorithm, computer simulations are illustrated and experimental results for a real mobile robot system are also provided.
Polishing process has been applied to get extremely fine surfaces, e.g., mirror surfaces such as optical mirrors, lens, molds and etc. Nowadays not only fine surface quality but also submicron order of dimensional accuracy is required for many applications. To meet the requirements polishing process should be provided with an active control of polishing pressure especially for automation of polishing process. In this paper a study on development of an active polishing pressure control system has been presented. A new type of tool assembly has been developed to facilitate the control. The tool is attached to an axis of a polishing machine with a coil spring and control of the polishing pressure is done by the position control of the axis, which needs no additional actuator. The polishing pressure is successfully measured by the measurement of the spring deformation. Control specifications were quantitatively considered by weighting functions and a controller was designed by using loop-shaping technique based on the no synthesis. Some experiments have been executed on a polishing machine with a PC-NC controller. It is shown that the results were coincident well with the theoretical analyses and satisfied the design specifications.
In modern war information system development makes battlefield materialize, and combat factors can maximize combat power exhibition as that apply synchronization. Information system is the core of combat power operation under NCW(Network centric Warfare). This paper proposed a new MOE(Measure of Effectiveness) that can assess the combat power synergistic effect of information system at the theater joint fire operation in NCW environment. This methodology applied the rule of Newton's second law $F=(m{\Delta}{\upsilon})/t{\Rightarrow}(M{\upsilon}I)/T$) Details factor in combat power evaluation is as following. (1) M : Network power; (2) v : Movement velocity; (3) I : Information superiority; (4) T : C2(command and control) time. We applied this methodology to the "JFOS-K(Joint Fire Operating System-Korea) in Joint Chief of Staff" in the real military affair section.
Human-Robot interaction (HRI) has recently become one of the most important issues in the field of robotics. Understanding and predicting the intentions of human users is a major difficulty for robotic programs. In this paper we suggest an interaction method allows the robot to execute the human user's desires in an intelligent room-based domain, even when the user does not give a specific command for the action. To achieve this, we constructed a full system architecture of an intelligent room so that the following were present and sequentially interconnected: decision-making based on the Bayesian belief network, responding to human commands, and generating queries to remove ambiguities. The robot obtained all the necessary information from analyzing the user's condition and the environmental state of the room. This information is then used to evaluate the probabilities of the results coming from the output nodes of the Bayesian belief network, which is composed of the nodes that includes several states, and the causal relationships between them. Our study shows that the suggested system and proposed method would improve a robot's ability to understand human commands, intuit human desires, and predict human intentions resulting in a comfortable intelligent room for the human user.
This study proposes a lower-limb exoskeleton system that is controlled by a wearer's muscle activity. This system is designed by following procedure. First, analyze the muscle activation patterns of human leg while walking. Second, select the adequate actuator to support the human walking based on calculation of required force of knee joint for step walking. Third, unit type knee and ankle orthotics are integrated with selected actuator. Finally, using this knee-assistive system (KAS) and developed muscle stiffness sensors (MSS), the muscle activity pattern of the subject is analyzed while he is walking on the stair. This study proposes an operating algorithm of KAS based on command signal of MSS which is generated by motion intent of human. A healthy and normal subject walked while wearing the developed powered-knee exoskeleton on his/her knees, and measured effectively assisted plantar flexor strength of the subject's knees and those neighboring muscles. Finally, capabilities and feasibility of the KAS are evaluated by testing the adapted motor pattern and the EMG signal variance while walking with exoskeleton. These results shows that developed exoskeleton which controlled by muscle activity could help human's walking acceptably.
This study is based on the interviews with six mothers to analyze their verbal response types with their young children ages 3-5 attending day-care center. This study was done from 10AM. to 12PM. August 18th 2012 at the director's room at P day care center in Seoul. For this study the following four situations mothers experience in child-rearing have been selected: self-achievement, sibling quarrel, nagging and isolation. As for the interview questionnaires the four verbal response types-stimulating, problem-solving, critical and indifferent ones-have been used. According to the results of this research, mothers tend to use stimulating verbal response types like praise in the situation of self-achievement; problem-solving response types like command in the situation of sibling quarrel; problem-solving response types like warning in the situation of nagging; and lastly, stimulating verbal response types like empathy in the situation of isolation. Mothers need to form more empathy with their children in such difficult situations as sibling quarrel or nagging. For mothers' efficient verbal responses for their children, accordingly, empathy in parent education needs to be more emphasized.

In order to develop the hydrostatic guideways driven by a core less linear motor for ultra precision machine tools, a prototype of guideway is designed and tested. A coreless linear DC motor with a continuous force of 156 N and a laser scale with a resolution of 0.01 ㎛ are used in the system. Experimental analysis on the static stiffness, motion errors, positioning error and its repeatability, micro step response and velocity variation of the guideway are performed. The guideway shows infinite stiffness within 50 N applied load in the feed direction, and by the motion error compensation method using the Active Controlled Capillary, 0.08 ㎛ linear motion error and 0.1 arcsec angular motion error are acquired. The guideway also reveals 0.21 ㎛ positioning error and 0.09 ㎛ repeatability, and it shows stable responses following a 0.01 ㎛ resolution step command. The velocity variation of feeding system is less than 0.6 %. From these results, it is estimated that the hydrostatic guideway driven by a coreless linear motor is very useful for the ultra precision machine tools.
