  • 우주발사체 추진기관은 일반적으로 산화제와 연료를 연소실로 공급하여 추진력을 얻게 된다. 개발중에 있는 한국형 발사체(KSLV-II) 2단 엔진의 경우 산화제로는 액체산소(Liquid Oxygen)를 사용하고 연료로는 JET-A1이 사용될 예정이다. 터보펌프 공급방식인 2단 엔진의 주요 구성은 연소기와 터보펌프, 엔진공급시스템 등으로 구성되어 있다. 액체 추진 엔진 개발을 위해서는 서브시스템인 연소기 개발이 선행되어야 하고 설계 및 제작된 연소기의 성능 검증은 연소기 연소시험설비(CCTF)에서 수행된다. 우주센터에 구축 예정인 연소기 연소시험설비에 대한 상세설계가 수행되었으며, 본 설계 결과를 기준으로 AMESim을 사용하여 연료공급시스템에 대한 모델링을 수행하여 연료 공급특성을 해석하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 고체추진제를 사용하는 closed bomb test(CBT)의 연소에 대한 정밀 모델링 및 해석을 수행하였다. 기상과 고상을 동시에 해석하기 위해 fluid structure interaction(FSI) 기법을 사용하였으며 기체상과 그레인의 연소해석은 Eulerian 방법을, 그레인의 이동은 Lagrangian 방법을 적용하였다. 고체상의 그레인과 연소가스의 상호 작용은 소스텀을 통해 완전 결합(fully coupled) 되도록 하였다. 그레인의 연소거리와 연소면의 이동을 모사하기 위하여 volume of fluid(VOF) 방법을 사용하였고, 그레인에 작용하는 힘은 그레인 연소면에 작용하는 압력과 중력을 고려하고, VOF의 속도항에 그레인 연소속도와 그레인 이동속도를 고려하였다. 개발한 수치모델을 바탕으로 1개와 3개 그레인에 대한 연소해석을 수행하여 실험결과와 비교 검증하였다. 연소시에 나타나는 압력 섭동에 대한 음향장을 분석하였다.

  • Combustion of coke/anthracite in an iron ore sintering bed is characterized quantitatively by introducing newly defined parameters related to propagation and thickness of combustion zone and maximum temperature. The parameters are obtained by sintering pot experiment and I-D, unsteady numerical model which treats solid material as multiple solid phases. Experiments and calculations are performed for various major operating parameters: air inlet velocity, different type of fuels which have different reactivity and diameter of the solid fuel. Effects of the operating parameters on the productivity and quality of the sintering process are investigated and evaluated quantitatively and the results show that optimized air supply rate and diameter of anthracite for replacement of coke can be obtained. This approach can be applied to other kinds of combustors for characterization of the combustion in the solid fuel beds.

엔진제어 알고리즘 설계를 위한 연소모델 개발 (Development of Combustion Model for Engine Control Algorithm Design)

  • This paper provides a description of the combustion model to obtain an accurate dynamic engine phenomena that satisfies real-time simulation for model-based engine control. The combustion chamber is modeled as a storage device for mass and energy. The combustion process is modeled in terms of a two-zone model for the burned and unburned gas fractions. The mass fraction burnt is modeled in terms of a Wiebe function. The instantaneous net engine torque is calculated from the engine speed and the instantaneous piston work. The modeling accuracy has been tested with a cylinder pressure data on a test bench and also the ability of real-time simulation has been checked. The results show that combustion model yields sufficiently good performance for the model-based control logic design. However the influence factors effected on model accuracy are some room for improvement.

Multi-environment PDF 모델을 이용한 MILD 연소과정 해석 (Multi-environment PDF Modeling for MILD Combustion Processes)

  • In this study, the multi-environment probability density function(MEPDF) approach has been applied to numerically investigate Delft-Jet-in-Hot-Coflow(DJHC) turbulent flames under Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution (MILD) combustion condition. Computations are made for two different jet velocities(Re = 4100 and 8800). In terms of mean axial velocity, temperature, and turbulent kinetic energy, numerical results are in reasonably good agreements with experimental data even if there exist the noticeable deviations in downstream region. Based on numerical results, the detailed discussions are made for the essential features of the non-visible flame structure and MILD combustion processes.

  • Mild combustion or Flameless oxidation(FLOX) have been considered as one of the most prospective clean-combustion technologies to meet both the targets of high process efficiency and low pollutant emissions. A mild combustor with high air preheating and strong internal exhaust gas recirculation is characterized by relatively low flame temperature, low NOx emissions, no visible flame and no sound. In this study, the Steady Flamelet Approach has been applied to numerically analyze the combustion processes and NOx formation in the mild combustor. The detailed discussion has been made f3r the basic characteristics of mild combustor, numerical results and limitation of the present combustion modeling.

비회색 가스 복사를 고려한 층류대향류 부분예혼합 화염에서의 $CO_2$$H_2O$ 첨가에 따른 영향 연구 (Effects of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ Additions on Partially Premixed Counterflow Flame by Considering Nongray Gas Radiation)

  • Detailed flame structures of the counterflow flames of $CH_4/Air$ formed with $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ addition are studied numerically. The detailed chemical reactions are modeled by using the OPPDIF and CHEMKIN-II code. Only the $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ are assumed to participate in radiative heat transfer while all other gases are assumed to be transparent. The discrete ordinates method(DOM) and the narrow band based WSGGM with a gray gas regrouping technique(WSGGM-RG) are applied for modeling the radiative transfer through non-homogeneous and non-isothermal combustion gas mixtures generated by the counter flow flames. The results compared with the SNB model show that the WSGGM-RG is successful in modeling the counterflow flames with non-gray gas mixture. The numerical results show that the addition of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ to the oxidant nozzle lowers the peak temperature and the NO concentration in flame.

  • The HCCI engine is a next generation engine, with high efficiency and low emissions. The engine may be an alternative to SI and DI engines; however, HCCI's operating range is limited by an excessive rate of pressure rise during combustion and the resulting engine knock in high-load. The purpose of this study was to gain a understanding of the effect of only initial temperature and thermal stratification for reducing the pressure-rise rate in HCCI combustion. And we confirmed characteristics of combustion, knocking and emissions. The engine was fueled with Di-Methyl Ether. The computations were conducted using both a single-zone model and a multi-zone model by CHEMKIN and modified SENKIN.

Modeling unmanned aerial vehicle jet ignition wankel engines with CAE/CFD

  • The paper presents some details of the CFD modeling of a novel design where jet ignition devices replace the traditional spark plugs for a faster and more complete combustion. The numerical simulations show how the pre-chamber jet ignition in a Wankel engine differs from reciprocating piston engine applications. The jets issuing from the jet ignition pre-chamber have many different speeds in the different directions as the pressure build-up at the trailing edge of the rotating chamber makes extremely fast the ignition of the chamber mixture in the direction of rotation. Conversely it prevents the jet ignition in the opposite direction. Careful positioning along the periphery and design of the connecting pipes and the prechamber volume with the help of CFD simulations permits to achieve extremely fast and complete combustion as impossible with spark plugs. The paper proposes results of CFD simulations of the combustion evolution within a jet ignited Wankel engine rotor, detailing challenges and opportunities of the application, as well as a first assessment of the impact the faster and more complete combustion permitted by jet ignition may have on the performances of Wankel engines for unmanned aerial vehicles applications.

  • 액체로켓 분사기는 추진 성능과 연소 안정성, 그리고 열유속 특성을 지배하는 가장 중요한 요소이다. 그러나 분사기 근방에서 일어나는 고압 연소 현상에 대한 근본적인 이해의 부족으로 분사기의 개발 과정은 대부분 경험적 설계방법과 고비용의 연소시험에 의존해 왔다. 본 연구는 액체로켓 연소 모델링과 관련된 최근 연구 동향들을 토대로 시작되었다. 층류화염편 기반의 난류연소모델을 초임계 압력 조건에서 나타나는 실제유체 거동을 고려할 수 있도록 확장하였으며, 극저온 질소분사, 상압 조건하의 난류제트화염, 그리고 고압의 기체수소/액체산소 동축 분사기에 적용하여 해석모델의 효용성을 확인하였다.
