다단계 혼성근사화에 기초한 대형구조계의 설계최적화 (Design Optimization of Large Scale Structural Systems based on Multilevel Hybrid Approximation)

  • A new optimization procedure with approximate reanalysis module, using the staged hybrid methods with substructuring, is proposed in is study. In this procedure, displacements are calculated with two step mixed procedures. First step is to introduce the conservative approximation, which is a hybrid form of the linear and reciprocal approximation, as local approximation. In the next step, it is combined with the global approximation by reduced basis approach. The quality of reanalyzed quantities can be greatly improved through these staged hybrid approximations, specially for large changes in the design. Overall procedures are based on substructuring scheme. Several numerical examples illustrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • The open Broström procedure is considered the surgery of choice for treating chronic lateral ankle instability. The role of arthroscopy has gained popularity in the surgical treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability, partly for the ability to manage the intra-articular pathology combined with ankle instability. Arthroscopic techniques can be divided broadly into the arthroscopic-assisted Broström technique and arthroscopic all-inside ligament repair. The clinical results of these arthroscopic techniques are similar to open procedures. The arthroscopic technique may be an excellent alternative to the open Broström procedure in treating chronic lateral ankle instability when applying the appropriate indications.

  • We present a case of posterior atlantoaxial screw-rod fixation in a patient with an aberrant vertebral artery (VA) course combined with bilateral high-riding VA. An aberrant VA which courses below the posterior arch of the atlas (C1) that does not pass through the C1 transverse foramen and without an osseous anomaly is rare. However, it is important to consider an abnormal course of the VA both preoperatively and intraoperatively in order to avoid critical vascular injuries in procedures which require exposure or control of the VA, such as the far-lateral approach and spinal operations.

  • The method for enhancing the edges from medical images is described. The various methods are tested for the medical Images contaminated by noises, such as weighted averaging based on local probabilities, unsharp masking techniques, and proposed combined techniques. As a result, the combined technique using the median filtering and edge masks in six directions is well suited to remove the noises as to as to preserve the edges. Experimental results and computational procedures are presented.

Assessing the Feasibility of an Accident Management Strategy Using Dynamic Reliability Methods

  • This paper presents a new dynamic approach for assessing feasibility associated with the implementation of accident management strategies by the operators. This approach includes the combined use of both the concept of reliability physics and a dynamic event tree generation scheme. The reliability physics is based on the concept of a comparison between two competing variables, i.e., the requirement and the achievement parameter, while the dynamic event tree generation scheme on the continuous generation of the possible event sequences at every branch point up to the desired solution. This approach is applied to a cavity flooding strategy in a reference plant, which is to supply water into the reactor cavity using emergency fire systems in the station blackout sequence. The MAAP code and Latin Hypercube sampling technique are used to determine the uncertainty of the requirement parameter. It has been demonstrated that this combined methodology may contribute to assessing the success likelihood of the operator actions required during accidents and therefore to developing the accident management procedures.

Combined Traffic Signal Control and Traffic Assignment : Algorithms, Implementation and Numerical Results

  • Traffic signal setting policies and traffic assignment procedures are mutually dependent. The combined signal control and traffic assignment problem deals with this interaction. With the total travel time minimization objective, gradient based local search methods are implemented. Deterministic user equilibrium is the selected user route choice rule, Webster's delay curve is the link performance function, and green time per cycle ratios are decision variables. Three implemented solution codes resulting in six variations include intersections operating under multiphase operation with overlapping traffic movements. For reference, the iterative approach is also coded and all codes are tested in four example networks at five demand levels. The results show the numerical gradient estimation procedure performs best although the simplified local searches show reducing the large network computational burden. Demand level as well as network size affects the relative performance of the local and iterative approaches. As demand level becomes higher, (1) in the small network, the local search tends to outperform the iterative search and (2) in the large network, vice versa.

Treatment of descemetocele with deep keratotomy combined with a nictitating membrane flap in a dog

  • A 10-year-old, spayed female, Maltese dog presented with a 2-day history of severe left eye squint. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy showed a deep corneal defect stained into a doughnut shape together with hypopyon in the anterior chamber. Based on these results, a diagnosis of descemetocele and uveitis in the left eye was made. Deep keratotomy combined with a nictitating membrane flap effectively resolved the descemetocele without complications. The surgical procedures performed on this patient were easy and effective, and could be used as an alternative to graft surgery for descemetocele treatment.

  • Shrink-rings (Stress-rings) are used in the fabrication of powder compaction dies to increase the allowable compaction pressures for a given die material. Optimum Procedures are used to insure that the stress distributions in the die and stress-rings ultilize fully the strength available in each of the die elements. Two criteria for the optimum die design are used: Maximum shear stress limit for one-piece dies and zero tensile stress limit for combined dies. Examples for each case are presented in this paper.

Scimitar 징후를 동반한 부분폐정맥환류이상 -1례보고- (Partial Anormalous Pulmonary Venous Return with Scimitar Sign)

  • We experienced a case of partial anomalous pulmonary venous return from righ lung to inferior vena cava, which combined with Scimitar sign in 18 years old female patient. Diagnostic procedures were simple chest x-ray chest CT, and cardiac catheterization. We redirected the anomalous venous flow from inferior vena cava to left atrium through the intracardiac tunnel which was made with autologous pericardium. Postoperative course was not eventful.

  • When a Combined cycle power plant was started, Steam turbine wasted pure water too much during prewarming of turbine. Wasted pure water gathered in vessel tank and evaporated immediately, then emitted atmosphere. We investigate method to recover the heat in vessel tank. We installed a heat exchanger in vessel tank. In this study, the designing and manufacturing procedures of the heat exchanger was presented. Also, the performance results was showed briefly.
