  • In order to Investigate the possibility as a simple technique of wastewater treatment for recirculating aquaculture system, the experiment by a biofilter unfit was carried out. The high and stable removal efficiency of nitrogen could be obtained by selecting the optimum recycle ratio and DO concentration. It was found that the proper combination of nitrifacation and denitrfication step in the reactor would be required for increasing the removal efficiency. The extent of nitrogen removal gradually decreased UO the rise of re- cycle ratio since the depression of denitrificatlon by the lack of hydrogen donor. The depression of nitrogen removal was overcome by increasing the CIN ratio In the wastewater. The extent of phosphorus removal was increased slightly with the increase of DO concentration and recycle ratio, but high removal efficiency was not observed. However, the extent of COD removal was not affected by recycle ratio and DO concentration and showed the stable removal of above 90%.

  • In the process of integrity evaluation for nuclear power plant components, a series of fracture mechanics evaluation on surface cracks in reactor pressure vessel(RPV) must be conducted. These fracture mechanics evaluations are based on stress intensity factor, K. However, under pressurized thermal shock(PTS) conditions, the combination of thermal and mechanical stress by steep temperature gradient and internal pressure causes considerably high tensile stress at the inside of RPV wall. Besides, the internal pressure during the normal operation produces high tensile stress at the RPV wall. As a result cracks on inner surface of RPVs may experience elastic-plastic behavior which can be explained with J-integral. In such a case, however, J-integral may possibly lose its validity due to constraint effect. In this paper, in order to verify the suitability of J-integral, two dimensional finite element analyses were applied for various surface crack. Total of 18 crack geometries were analyzed, and Q stresses were obtained by comparing resulting HRR stress distribution with corresponding actual stress distributions. In conclusion, HRR stress fields were found to overestimate the actual crack-tin stress field due to constraint effect.

  • The membrane-aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) is a promising municipal wastewater treatment process. In this study, two cross-flow MABRs were constructed to explore the carbon and nitrogen removal performance and bacterial succession, along with changes of influent loading shock comprising flow velocity, COD, and NH4-N concentrations. Redundancy analysis revealed that the function of high flow velocity was mainly embodied in facilitating contaminants diffusion and biosorption rather than the success of overall bacterial populations (p > 0.05). In contrast, the influent NH4-N concentration contributed most to the variance of reactor efficiency and community structure (p < 0.05). Pyrosequencing results showed that Anaerolineae, and Beta- and Alphaproteobacteria were the dominant groups in biofilms for COD and NH4-N removal. Among the identified genera, Nitrosomonas and Nitrospira were the main nitrifiers, and Hyphomicrobium, Hydrogenophaga, and Rhodobacter were the key denitrifiers. Meanwhile, principal component analysis indicated that bacterial shift in MABR was probably the combination of stochastic and deterministic processes.

  • Recently, the construction of gas insulated substation(GIS)s has been increased in Korea. But, the whole quantity of the VTs which were used in GIS has been imported. Under the circumstance that $SF_6$ gas power apparatus are being developed up to 800kV rating in Korea, the development of EHV $SF_6$ gas VT is essential for localizing the power apparatus. As for EHV VT, destructive ferroresonance can be generated due to the combination of capacitiances between poles of circuit breaker, ground capacitance of bus and nonlinear excitation property of VT core. But the theoretical analysis about ferroresonance has not been fully achieved in Korea. Therefore, in this paper the authors would like to contribute for localizing EHV $SF_6$ gas VT by developing the diagram of ferroresonance zone according to the parameters of the circuit and the saturable reactor.

  • This study deals with heat pipes inserted into the metal hydride(MH) reactor to increase the effective thermal conductivity of the system and thus to enhance the thermal control characteristics. A numerical analysis was conducted to predict the effect of inserted heat pipes on the heat transfer characteristics of MH, which inherently has extremely low thermal conductivity. The numerical model was a cylindrical container of O.D. 76.3 mm and length 1 m, which is partially filled with about 60% of MH material. The heat pipe was made of copper-water combination, which is suitable for operation temperature range between $10^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$. Both inner -and outer- heat pipes were considered in the model. Less than two hours of transient time is of concern when decreasing or increasing the temperature for absorption and discharge of hydrogen gas. FLUENT, a commercial software, was employed to predict the transient as well as steady-state temperature distribution of the MH reactor system. The numerical results were compared and analyzed from the view point of temperature uniformity and transient time up to the specified maximum or minimum temperatures.

  • The combined system of sequencing batch biofilm reactor (SBBR) and membrane SBR (MSBR) was operated with sewage to evaluate the COD utilization for biological nutrient removal (BNR). The SBBR was operated for nitrification reactor, while denitrifying PAO (dPAO) was cultivated in MSBR with anaerobic-anoxic operation. In the SBBR and MSBR system, the enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) was successfully achieved with higher N removal. The COD utilization in combined SBBR-MSBR system was significantly reduced compared to ordinary BNR (up to 3.1 g SCOD/g (N+P) and 1.6 g SCOD/g (N+P) with different C/N/P ratio). The results suggest that a dPAO process could effectively reduce carbon energy (=COD) requirement. The combination of oxic-SBBR and anaerobic-anoxic MSBR for dPAO utilization could be an attractive alternative to upgrade the process performance in weak sewage.

  • The combination of MCNP6 and the FISPACT codes was used to predict inventories of radioisotopes produced by neutron exposure of a sample in a research reactor. The detailed MCNP6 model of the Budapest Research Reactor and the specific irradiation geometry of the NAA channel was established, while realistic material cards were specified based on concentrations measured by PGAA and NAA, considering the precursor elements of all significant radioisotopes. The energy- and spatial distributions of the neutron field calculated by MCNP6 were transferred to FISPACT, and the resulting activities were validated against those measured using neutron-irradiated small and bulky targets. This approach is general enough to handle different target materials, shapes, and irradiation conditions. A general agreement within 10% has been achieved. Moreover, the method can also be made applicable to predict the activation properties of the near-vessel concrete of existing nuclear installations or assist in the optimal construction of new nuclear power plant units.

  • A great part of flint fuel is Hydrogen and carbon's combination. they should be generated steam and carbon gas when combine with oxygen for perfect combustion in the inside of engine, but the pollutive material especially NOx and Soot are exhausted, even though fuel is combine perfectly. In this paper the characteristics of exhaust material from diesel engine is investigated for the corona discharge-EGR hybrid plasma reactor, which combined corona discharge with EGR system. NOx is decreased in all load and applied voltage to plasma reactor. However Soot is increased as increasing EGR rate and it is decreased as increasing applied voltage.

  • Shape optimization of an upper plenum of PBMR type gas cooled nuclear reactor has been performed by using three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) analysis and surrogate modeling technique. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of uniformity of flow distribution in the core and pressure drop in the upper plenum and the core. The ratio of thickness of slot to diameter of rising channels, ratio of height of upper plenum to diameter of rising channels, and ratio of eight of the slot at inlet to outlet, are used as design variables for optimization. Design points are selected through Latin-hypercube sampling. The optimal point is determined through surrogate-based optimization method which uses 3-D RANS analyses at design points. The results show that the optimum shape represent remarkably improved performance in flow uniformity and friction loss than the reference shape.
