  • Since the concept of Manned-UnManned Teaming(MUM-T) and Unmanned Aircraft System(UAS) can efficiently respond to rapidly changing battle space, many studies are being conducted as key components of the mosaic warfare environment. In this paper, we propose a rule-based AI engagement model based on Basic Fighter Maneuver(BFM) capable of Within-Visual-Range(WVR) air-to-air combat and a simulation environment in which human pilots can participate. In order to develop a rule-based AI engagement model that can pilot a fighter with a 6-DOF dynamics model, tactical manuals and human pilot experience were configured as knowledge specifications and modeled as a behavior tree structure. Based on this, we improved the shortcomings of existing air combat models. The proposed model not only showed a 100 % winning rate in engagement with human pilots, but also visualized decision-making processes such as tactical situations and maneuvering behaviors in real time. We expect that the results of this research will serve as a basis for development of various AI-based engagement models and simulators for human pilot training and embedded software test platform for fighter.

  • The Ukraine-Russia war is a testing ground for High-Tech weapons and the first full-scale drone warfare. The Ukrainian military has been aggressively deploying a variety of reconnaissance and attack drones on the battlefield, and more recently, FPV drones, also known as racing drones, have been fitted with bombs as a game-changer in small-unit combat. To better understand these FPV drones, this article reviews their definition, aircraft components, and key characteristics, and draws implications from the Ukrainian military's FPV combat experience. In the future, the combination of artificial intelligence and swarming technology will make FPV drones even more lethal. Accordingly, the need to develop FPV drones suitable for the future operational environment on the Korean Peninsula is increasing, and follow-up research is needed to specify fighting methods and optimize related technologies.

  • The purpose of this study is to re-concept the future battle of the Army, which combines the effects of advanced technology on the concept of combat and the AICBM technology. The "war concept" changes with the times, and can be seen through the following two examples. First, it is a concept that achieves relative superiority by analyzing enemies. A case in point is the U.S. military's development of a "public joint battle" into a "multi-domain operation." Second, it is 'science and technology' that leads to a change in the concept of combat. A case in point is that the firepower warfare on land and sea in World War I developed from World War II to "air warfare" due to the emergence of aircraft. In this regard, the U.S. military is focusing on the concept of fighting in line with the future operational environment based on high-tech science and technology and the construction of the future military through the creation of the "Future Command." Therefore, our military needs to utilize the major technologies of the fourth industrial revolution as an opportunity to develop the concept of future combat, and the future war will greatly affect the development of the concept of advanced science and technology carrying out war, as AIC technology based on the fourth industrial revolution will promote innovation in defense operations in the form of super-connected, super-intelligence and super-integration. Therefore, this study will present the impact of advanced technology on the concept of combat and the concept of battle of the future Army incorporating the technology of AICBM.

  • LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) technology provides realistic 3-dimension image information, and it has been widely utilized in various fields. However, the utilization of this technology in the military domain requires prompt responses to dynamically changing tactical environment and is therefore limited since LiDAR technology requires complex processing in order for extensive amounts of LiDAR data to be utilized. In this paper, we introduce an Unmanned Aircraft Platform Based Real-time LiDAR Data Processing Architecture that can provide real-time detection information by parallel processing and off-loading between the UAV processing and high-performance data processing areas. We also conducted experiments to verify the feasibility of our proposed architecture. Processing with ARM cluster similar to the UAV platform processing area results in similar or better performance when compared to the current method. We determined that our proposed architecture can be utilized in the military domain for tactical and combat purposes such as unmanned monitoring system.

  • An infrared-guided missile has been emerging as a major threat against combat aircraft due to its passive guidance characteristics and with recent advances in stealth technology. Hence, the infrared stealth technology and its effectiveness-evaluation technique become more significant than ever before. In this study, we applied missile aerodynamics to lethal range calculation which allowed more precise prediction. CFD analyses were newly involved in estimating drag force characteristics of an infrared-guided missile. Velocity profiles during flight period of the missile were constructed utilizing these drag characteristics and then incorporated into our in-house code to predict corresponding lethal ranges. The results showed that the present method can predict lethal range more appropriately than the previous one with constant velocity profile. As one of the results, if a fighter gains altitude more which reduces less drag of the attacking missile, then the lethal envelope increases significantly more compared to the lock-on envelope.
