초소형 전자칼럼의 대면적 주사 적정조건 (The Optimal Condition for Scanning Large Area with a Micro-electron-column)

  • In large area scanning with a micro-electron-column, the operating condition for the best resolution was investigated in factors of working distance and field of view. The resolution of a test sample was dependent on electron beam energy and scanning field size. The best resolution with single deflector was obtained at 300 V and 30 mm in the electron emitting tip voltage and a working distance, respectively. The scanning area at that condition was $13.9{\times}13.9mm^2$, linearly increased with the working distance. Double deflector was employed for larger scanning size without increasing working distance, but showed only 1.7 times larger than that of single deflector, and the resolution was inverse proportional to the scanning size.

Effect of Aspergillus niger Pellets on Citric Acid Production in a Bubble Column Bioreactor

  • Citrate is mainly produced from fungi and oxygen transfer has been known as one of the important factors in citric acid production. A bubble column bioreactor was used for citrate production after pellet was initially made using a stirred bioreactor for the inoculation. The relationship between the pellet size of Aspergillus niger and the oxygen transfer was elucidated by considering morphological characteristics of the pellet. The pellet size was determined by adjusting the impeller speed in the stirred bioreactor and the optimum diameter of the pellet was observed to be 2.2 mm under the experimental conditions. Pellet was maintained quite stable in the bubble column bioreactor and production of citric acid was significantly improved by maintaining optimal pellet conditions in the bubble column bioreactor.

독성가스 제거용 기포탑 반응기의 설계기법 (Design Parameters Estimations for Bubble Column Reactors to Remove Toxic Gases)

  • Gas-liquid bubble column reactors are extensively used in industrial processes. A detailed knowledge of bubble size distribution is needed for determining the mass transfer in gas-liquid film. Experimental data on bubble size distribution and liquid-side mass transfer coefficient($k_L$) were used to calculate the estimated time to saturation in bubble column reactor. Also, the gas flux was evaluated to the liquid-side mass transfer coefficient($k_L$) and solubility data for hydrogen sulfide($H_2S$) and chlorine($Cl_2$) absorption into water. Simulation results show that $H_2S$ absorption time to 50 % of saturation concentrations are 611 sec and 1,329 sec when bubble diameters are 0.5 mm and 4.5 mm, while absorbing 1 % $H_2S$ gas. In case of $Cl_2$, absorption time range 657 to 1,400 sec when bubble size range 0.5 mm to 4.5 mm, while absorbing 1 % $Cl_2$ gas. Calculated simulation results can be used in the design of emergency relief bubble reactors.

Cyclic behaviour of beam-to-column welded connections

  • In this paper the results of an experimental program devoted to the assessment of the cyclic behaviour of full scale, European type, beam-column subassemblages with welded connections are presented. Six tests (five cyclic and one monotonic) have been carried out on three different series of specimens, encompassing a total of eighteen tests. The three specimen series have been designed with the aim of defining the effect of the column size on the connection behaviour, under different applied loading histories. The tests have evidenced the effect of the column size and panel zone design and of the applied loading history on the cyclic behaviour and failure modes of the connections.

  • Batch test and column test were performed to develop the design factors for PRBs against the contaminated groundwater by ammonium and lead. Clinoptilolite, one of the natural zeolites having excellent cation exchange capacity(CEC), was chosen as the reactive material through the ion-exchange mechanism. In the batch test, the reactivity of Clinoptilolite to ammonium and lead was examined with varying the particle size of Clinoptilolite. The nit weight of Clinoptilolite showed removal efficiencies of 65 % against the ammonium and 98% against lead. The effect of particle size of Clinoptilolite was not noticeable. In the column test, the permeability was examined using flexible-wall permeameters with varying the particle size of Clinoptilolite. When the washed Clinoptilolite having the diameter of 0.42-0.85 nm was mixed with Jumunjin sands in 20:80 ratio (w/w), the highest permeability of 2$\times$10$^{-3}$ -7 x 10$^{-4}$ cm/s was achieved. The reactivity and the strength property of the mixed material were investigated using fixed wall column having 8 sampling ports on the wall and the direct shear test, respectively. Clinoptilolite was found to be a suitable material for PRBs against the contaminated groundwater with ammonium and/or heavy metals.

Experimental study on seismic behavior of exterior composite beam-to-column joints with large size stiffened angles

  • The top-and-seat angles with double web angles are commonly used in the design of beam-to-column joints in Asian and North American countries. The seismic behavior analysis of these joints with large cross-section size of beam and column (often connected by four or more bolts) is a challenge due to the effects from the relatively larger size of stiffened angles and the composite action from the adjacent concrete slab. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the seismic performance of exterior composite beam-to-column joints with stiffened angles under cyclic loading. Four full-scale composite joints with different configuration (only one specimen contain top angle in concrete slab) were designed and tested. The joint specimens were designed by considering the effects of top angles, longitudinal reinforcement bars and arrangement of bolts. The behavior of the joints was carefully investigated, in terms of the failure modes, slippage, backbone curves, strength degradation, and energy dissipation abilities. It was found that the slippage between top-and-seat angles and beam flange, web angle and beam web led to a notable pinching effect, in addition, the ability of the energy dissipation was significantly reduced. The effect of anchored beams on the behavior of the joints was limited due to premature failure in concrete, the concrete slab that closes to the column flange and upper flange of beam plays an significant role when the joint subjected to the sagging moment. It is demonstrated that the ductility of the joints was significantly improved by the staggered bolts and welded longitudinal reinforcement bars.

활성탄입경(活性炭粒徑)이 Trihalomethane의 흡착(吸着)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Particle Size on Adsorption of Trihalomethane by Activated Carbon)

  • 활성탄(活性炭)의 입경변화(粒徑變化)가 trihalomethane의 흡착(吸着)에 미치는 영향(影響)에 관하여 실험적(實驗的)으로 연구(硏究)하였다. 실험(實驗)에 사용(使用)된 활성탄(活性炭)은 평균입경(平均粒徑)이 0.73mm에서 2.03mm까지의 4종류(種類)이었으며 이들에 대하여 물리적(物理的) 특성(特性)을 조사(調査)하고 trihalomethanedml 흡착능력(吸着能力)을 등온흡착실험(等溫吸着實驗)과 micro-column 실험(實驗)을 통해 밝혀냈다. 입경(粒徑)의 증가(增加)에 따라 비표면적(比表面積)이 감소(減少)하였고 활성탄(活性炭) 내부공극(內部空隙)의 반경(半徑)이 크게 증가(增加)하였다. 또한 큰 입자(粒子)의 경우에는 공극(空隙)의 크기가 넓게 분포(分布)하였다. Trihalomethane의 흡착(吸着)은 Freundlich 공식(公式)에 의해 잘 표현(表現)되었고 입경증가(粒徑增加)에 따라 흡착능력(吸着能力)의 감소(減少)가 뚜렷하게 나타났다. Micro-column 실험결과(實驗結果)와 모형(模型)의 Simulation으로부터 물질도달계수(物質導達係數)와 내부표면광산계수(內部表面壙散係數)를 산정(算定)하였다. 입경변화(粒徑變化)에 따른 계수(係數)의 변화(變化)는 무시(無視)할 수 있었으며 입경변화(粒徑變化)에 따른 효율(効率)의 차이(差異)는 주로 흡착능력(吸着能力)의 차이(差異)에서 오는 결과(結果)로 판단(判斷)된다.

  • The column for Steel Framed Reinforced Concrete Structure (SFRCS) and the column for Reinforced Concrete Structure (RCS) could be the most common building structure. The increasing of the need for massive space hasaffected the size of building components for supporting the massive structure. However, the changing of components size makes inefficient space of building. Hence, to meet the need for acquiring efficient space comparing the budget and cost the new structure method, Concrete Filled Tube Steel (CFT), was developed. CFT is the structure for which steel tube instead of other materials such as wood for holding concrete is used. The most benefit of this one is to help in reducing the size of the building components and local buckling because of tube steel holding concrete. For this reason, this research will examine the probability of applying CFT on construction sites by using the concrete (800kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$) especially for CFT through the data from the real size mock-up.

비소성 준설토의 침강-압밀 거동 특성 (Characteristics of Settling and Consolidation Behavior for Non-Plastic Dredged Soils)

  • A series of column test with a silty marine soil mixed with Jumunjin Standard Sand were performed to investigate the characteristics of settling and consolidation of non-plastic dredged soils. Column tests were carried out by using the separable column to measure the grain size distribution of consolidated layer. Column tests were performed with changing the mixing ratio of Jumunjin Standard Sand to the silty marine soil, initial water content of slurry and initial height of slurry. Height of interface of slurry was monitored during tests and grain size distribution tests were carried out after finishing tests. Influencing factors on the particle segregation, eventually to the characteristics of settling and consolidation of non-plastic soil, were analyzed on the thesis of test results. As results of column tests, the mixing ratio of sand to the silty marine soil and the initial water content of slurry were known to affect the characteristics of settling and consolidation resulted in significant particle segregation of slurry. Initial height of slurry was found not to affect seriously to particle segregation.

역타기둥 이음부의 공기포 배출을 위한 실험적 연구 (The Experimental Study on Deflation of Air for Top-Down Joint area)

  • The purpose of this study is to research a specific material characteristics of top down concrete at column joint and to reduce column joint opening. Based on the established top down study, the experiment to apply an real construction case is performed. When the concrete placed into joint of top down column, raised air bubble is left as opening. This study is examined the incomplete packing reason in the top down column and found to air deflation method. The result of study is below (1) As the method to minimize column opening caused from confined air, it is required that an air exhaust port installation in joint column. (2) From air exhaust port installation, most of air bubble in column part is exhausted. As the concrete placing height is going up, air bubble size is going smaller.
