  • Recent Engineered nanoparticles were increasingly exposed to environmental system with the wide application and production of nanomaterials, concerns are increasing about their environmental risk to soil and groundwater system. In order to assess the transport behavior of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), a saturated packed column experiments were examined. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and a DLS detector was used for concentration and size measurement of AgNPs. The column experiment results showed that solution chemistry had a considerable temporal deposition of AgNPs on the porous media of solid glass beads. In column experiment, comparable mobility improvement of AgNPs were observed by changing solution chemistry conditions from salts (in both NaCl and $CaCl_2$ solutions) to DI conditions, but in much lower ionic strength (IS) with $CaCl_2$. Additionally, the fitted parameters with two-site kinetic attachment model form the experimental breakthrough curves (BTCs) were associated that the retention rates of the AgNPs aggregates were enhanced with increasing IS under both NaCl and $CaCl_2$ solutions.

  • A column bioleaching experiment at room temperature with no addition of sulfuric acid was effectively carried out to leach the valuable elements from pyrite, which is common mine waste. The Fe concentration of pyrite leachate from bioleaching column was 14 times higher than that of the control leachate, and secondary minerals were not formed. The $SO_4^{2-}$ concentration of the pyrite leachate was 2.99 times higher. The XRD intensity of the (111), (200), (220), (311), (222), (230) and (321) planes of pyrite decreased, whereas the intensity of (210) and (211) increased after column bioleaching.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate and improve the constructability and seismic performance of high strength R/C interior beam-column joints regions, with or without the shear reinforcement, using high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar. Six specimens of retrofitted the beam-column joint regions using high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar are constructed and tested for their retrofit performances. Specimens designed by retrofitting the interior beam-column joint regions (IJNS series) of existing reinforced concrete building showed a stable mode of failure and an increase in load-carrying capacity due to the enhancement of crack dispersion by fiber bridging from using new high ductile materials for retrofitting. Specimens of IJNS series, designed by the retrofitting of high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar in beam-column joint regions increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 96~102.8% and its energy dissipation capacity by 0.99~1.11 folds when compared to standard specimen of SIJC with a displacement ductility of 5.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate and improve the seismic performance of high strength R/C interior beam-column joints regions using advanced reinforcing detailings and high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar. Five specimens of retrofitted the beam-column joint regions using advanced reinforcing detailings and high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar were constructed and tested for their retrofitring performances. Specimens designed by retrofitting the interior beam-column joint regions (IJIR series) of existing reinforced concrete building showed a stable mode of failure and an increase in load-carrying capacity. Specimens of IJIR series, designed by the retrofitting of advanced reinforcing detailings and high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar in reinforecd beam-column joint regions increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 114.2~123.5% and its energy dissipation capacity by 1.55~1.85 times in comparison with the standard specimen of SIJC with a displacement ductility of 5.

  • Column-to-beam pinned connections can cause local moment to the web of a steel tube due to the distance of eccentricity between the row of bolts and the column flange, which possibility deteriorates the load capacity of column. In this study, a square hollow section tubular used finite element analysis of a square hollow section tubular column was carried out, and the column width and thickness, existence and non-existence of internal reinforcement, and existence and non-existence of compressive force were taken as variables to examine the load capacity deterioration of a square column caused by moment. To guarantee the reliability of the finite element results, some specimens were fabricated and tested. The yield line method was applied to suggest the strength formulas of the square tubular column to the beam pinned connections. Based on the study results, the column strength the moment of the square hollow section tubular column to the beam pined connections improved with the increase in the w to strength limitations, a no-reinforcement type of square hollow section tubular column was proposed, and if the limitation values were not satisfied, the reinforcement of the internal column was made mandatory. Therefore, the horizontal -reinforcement type considered the strength increase, and the fabrication of the square hollow section tubular column was ar column that considered its load capacity with the moment for the no-reinforcement and the horizontal-reinforcement types.

  • To resolve the conservative requirements for clear headed-bar spacing in KBC 2016 and ACI 318-08, two 2/3-scale exterior beam-column connections were tested under cyclic seismic loading. The seismic tests primarily explored the effect on their seismic performance of using (a) small clear spacings and (b) multiple layers of headed reinforcements in the beam. Also, the previous test data were thoroughly analyzed. It was concluded that the clear bar spacing of 2db or the use of two bar layers might be permitted for headed reinforcements embedded in exterior beam-column connections.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the $P-{\Delta}$ effect in the case of weak beam unbraced frames by experimental approach. To evaluate $P-{\Delta}$ effect, four specimens were tested under monotonic loading condition. The parameters of tests are the stiffness of column and the axial load ratio. The results show that the value of axial load affects frame stability because $P-{\Delta}$ effects promote the yielding of beam. The maximum lateral load increases in proportion to the increment of column stiffness and rotational stiffness of supports, The collapse mechanism of weak beam unbraced frames is stably formed in the condition of low axial load ratio. The $B_2$ factor of limit state design code does not properly consider the $P-{\Delta}$ effect in inelastic region.

  • The effect of particle size on adsorption of trihalomethane have been studied. Using mean particle sizes ranging from 0.73 to 2.03 mm, physical properties of carbon and trihalomethane adsorption characteristics have been investigated experimentally. With increasing particle size specific surface area and pore volume decreased, and the mean pore radius increased significantly. Large pores were dominant in large particles, while small particles were composed of small pores. Isotherm studies were conducted using static bottle point technique and the results were well described by the Freundlich isotherm equations. The adsorption capacity increased significantly with decreased particle size. Additionally micro-column tests were carried out, and the results were compared with the model simulation. From the micro-column studies it was found out that the film transfer coefficient were almost constant, and the differences in the trihalomethane removal efficiency was mainly due to the differences in the adsorption capacity of the particles of different size.

  • Currently, the load transfer's mechanism from a beam to a column has yet to ve clarified in a concrete filled steel tubular (CFT) structure with a connection type of an exterior diaphragm. The loads for each floor are transferred to the concrete core from a steel beam through ha contacted face between an in-filled concrete and the interior surface of a steel tube. Thus, a Push-Out test was performed to investigate the load transfer mechanism. A total of 30 samples were tested to confirm the bond stress and/or axial load distribution between a steel tube and in-filled concrete for CFT column. The main parameters considered for this study included concrete type, steel tube-shape/length, and the effect of a weld joint wit ha backing strip for a column splice. Test results were summarized to confirm load transfer behavior between a concrete and steel tube for each experimental parameter, using the analytical approach to verify experimental results.

  • This study is to examine the usefulness in using precast girder-infilled steel tube column in reinforced concrete structures through the analysis of the test results, in order to develope the new composite structural system using precast girder-Infilled steel tube column, The variables of specimen are strength of concrete, the numble of hoops, the form of beam-column The variables of specimen are strength of concrete, the number of hoops, the form of beam-column joints. By raising strength of concrete and incresing number of hoops in beam-column joint, it becomes clear to take similar structure capacity to monolithic structures.
