Identification of 11 species of Paemo through each original plant and medicines (11종 패모(貝母)의 기원별 자연·약재상태 감별)

  • Objectives : Paemo is a phlegm-resolving drug with cold properties and classified 5 kinds which come from 11 species of original plant. All the more, according to literature record, 20 species of original plant were used. As a natural result, these are easily to confuse and there are a lot of counterfeit product. So we are to present a differential standard of Paemo. Methods : It was planed a differential standard form through outer appearance of the original plant and outer appearance in the form of each medicines which was collected local market or field for 11 species which is listed in Korea or China pharmacopeia. Results : It was possible to distinguish the orignal plant between Fritillaria and Bolbostemma through its stem shape. In Fritillaria of original plant, it was possible to distinguish through its width of leaf, number of leafy bracts, color and position of flower and shape of leaf apex. In outer appearance in the form of each medicines, there are difference in color and texture of medicine between Fritillaria and Bolbostemma and there are difference in size, shape, size of inner and outter fleshy leaf of bulb, pattern of surface and apex of fleshy leaf of bulb among 10 Fritillaria species. Conclusions : This study presents various differences in the outer appearance of the original plant and the outer appearance in the form of each medicines among Paemo. It will be helpful to further applied research.

Flavor Components of Artemisia Lavandulaefolia DC (참쑥(Artemisia Lavandulaefolia DC)의 방향성분)

  • The essential oil of Artemiisa lavandulaefolia DC was analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The oil was stored at different conditions for 6 weeks and the changes of color and chemical composition during storage were checked by GC/MS. The experimental results were as follows; (1) More than 186 chemicals were detected by GC. Major components were 1,8-cineol, thujone, camphor, borneol, coumarin, 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran and ${\beta}-biasbolene$. In this study, 3,3,6-trimethyl norpinanol, ${\beta}-farnesene,\;{\alpha}-curmene$ and 7-methoxy coumarin were detected as new compounds in Artemisia species. (2) It was proved that temperature and/ or light had and important effect on the changes of color and volatile components of the essential oil. The relative amounts of limonene and 1.8-cineol were decreasad, on the other hand, ${\beta}-phellandrene\;and\;{\alpha}-terpineol$ were increased during storage.

Analysis of Interior Design Elements in Food and Beverage Applying the Psychological Process of Purchasing(AIDMA) Model (구매심리과정(AIDMA)모델을 적용한 식음공간의 실내디자인요소 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data that can improve added value of commercial space strategically using the identification of relationship between the process of consumers' purchasing psychology (AIDMA : Attention, Interest, Desire, Memory, Action) and elements of interior design. For this purpose, case study and survey were carried out on food and beverage spaces, where they were doing business for more than two years, were selected from the ones appeared in the interior journal "A." Based on the study, basic details including a ground plan, design summary and representative image were identified through preliminary research, and a researcher visited the target spaces and carried out a research and analysis on interior design elements. Three spaces among targets of the case study were selected to identify the relation between design elements and AIDMA items which consumers feel, and the survey was conducted on the customers of the selected food and beverage spaces. Results of the case study on the 18 food and beverage spaces showed that features of the each of AIDMA items in material and color elements were most well expressed. As a result of survey conducted on visitors of each food and beverage space, features of each item were expressed in overall design elements. In particular, space elements and color elements in "Space 1," space elements and lighting elements in "Space 2" and space elements, furniture & objet elements in "Space 3" were most well expressed in each space. There were slight differences depending on individual characteristics such as design concept, location and business operation of target food and beverage spaces but attributes of AIDMA items were remarkably recognized in common in the space elements.

SATELLITE DETECTION OF RED TIDE ALGAL BLOOMS IN TURBID COASTAL WATERS

  • Several planktonic dinoflagellates, including Cochlodinium polykrikoides (p), are known to produce red tides responsible for massive fish kills and serious economic loss in turbid Northwest Pacific (Korean and neighboring) coastal waters during summer and fall seasons. In order to mitigate the impacts of these red tides, it is therefore very essential to detect, monitor and forecast their development and movement using currently available remote sensing technology because traditional ship-based field sampling and analysis are very limited in both space and temporal frequency. Satellite ocean color sensors, such as Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS), are ideal instruments for detecting and monitoring these blooms because they provide relatively high frequency synoptic information over large areas. Thus, the present study attempts to evaluate the red tide index methods (previously developed by Ahn and Shanmugam et al., 2006) to identify potential areas of red tides from SeaWiFS imagery in Korean and neighboring waters. Findings revealed that the standard spectral ratio algorithms (OC4 and LCA) applied to SeaWiFS imagery yielded large errors in Chl retrievals for coastal areas, besides providing false information about the encountered red tides in the focused waters. On the contrary, the RI coupled with the standard spectral ratios yielded comprehensive information about various ranges of algal blooms, while RCA Chl showing a good agreement with in-situ data led to enhanced understanding of the spatial and temporal variability of the recent red tide occurrences in high scattering and absorbing waters off the Korean and Chinese coasts. The results suggest that the red tide index methods for the early detection of red tides blooms can provide state managers with accurate identification of the extent and location of blooms as a management tool.

  • This paper introduces the improvement of QoS to compensate the decreasing LED performance by temperature characteristic in the LED-ID communication system. LED does not only use as a lighting device, but also uses as a communication device. The conventional system is transmitted by RGB of LED following the mixture color ratio, which determined the color of lighting, and the BER performance of each RGB signals. However, when the LED used consistently, it has occurred the heat temperature. As a result, LED is degraded the performance by increased temperature each device. To solve this problem, we proposed the adaptive modulation and coding scheme by temperature of device to improve the performance of system and satisfied the QoS in the LED-ID system.

Identification of Different Species and Dultivars of Brassica by SDS-PAGE, Isozyme and Molecular Marker

  • Eighty-five different cultivars of Brassica rapa, B. juncea, B. nap us, B. carinata, B. oleracea and hexaploid Brassica collected from Bangladesh, Japan, China and Denmark were analyzed by SDS-PAGE for seed and leaf protein variations, using esterase, acid phosphatase and peroxidase isozyme analysis. Ten polymorphic bands were identified from seed protein however no identifiable polymorphic band was found in the leaf protein. Polymorphic markers clearly distinguished the different Brassica species as well as yellow sarson (YS) and brown seeded (BS) cultivars of B. rapa. The $F_1$ cross between YS and brown seeded cultivars showed the existance of all poly-morphic bands of the respective parents. The Bangla-deshi and Japanese cultivars of B. rapa differed in the amount of seed protein. In the case of isozyme analysis, esterase showed the highest number of polymorphic bands (13) followed by acid phosphatase (9) and peroxidase (5). These polymorphic markers were very effec-tive for classification of all the species studied in this experiment. In parentage tests using isozymes, the hybridity of intra-and-interspecific crosses of almost all the seedlings could be identified from their respective cross combinations. Esterase polymorphism showed a clear differentiation between YS and BS types of B. rapa. In addition, two esterase polymorphic markers were iden ified to differentiate some cultivars of B. juncea. Segregation patterns in these two esterase bands showed a simple Mendelian monohybrid ratio of 3:1 in $F_2$, 1:1 in test cross and 1:0 in back cross progenies. No polymorphic band was identified to distinguish different cultivars of the same species by acid phosphatase or peroxidase. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was carried out with seed coat color specific marker of B. juncea. The yellow seeded cultivars produced a strong band at 0.5 kb and weak band 1.2 kb. In the addition of these two specific bands, Japanese yellow-seeded cultivars expressed two more weak bands at 1.0 kb and 1.1 kb. Where the brown seeded cultivars generated a single strong band at 1.1 kb. In segregating population, the yellow seed coat color marker segregated at a ratio 15 (brown) : 1 (yellow), indicating the digenic inheritance pattern of the trait.

Development of New Cultivar 'Millock' in Zoysiagrass (한국잔디 신품종 '밀록' 개발)

  • This study was carried out to develope new zoysiagrass cultivar 'Millock'(Patent registration No. : 10-2005-0110051). Artificial selfing of collected line of MJ8 was conducted to develope F1 plant (MJ8S). Among the inbred progenies, MJ8S-9 (Millock) showed superior performance in color, density, and rust resistance. 'Millock' showed genetically dark green color, with medium-textured leaf ($4.2{\pm}0.44$ mm), short internode length ($3.5{\pm}0.28$ cm), and wide leaf angle ($52.5{\pm}10.8$ degree). Height to the lowest leaf blade of this cultivar was $1.9{\pm}0.91$ cm, which may allow low mowing height. 'Millock' has a yellowish green stolen. Also, specific bands with primer number OPB 8 by RAPD analysis can be used for a cultivar identification.

Effects of Gamma Irradiation on the Decontamination of Animal Feeds: Sterilization of Carbohydrate Sources (배합사료 원료에 대한 방사선 살균 효과 ; 탄수화물의 살균)

  • The effects of gamma irradiation on microbiological and physicochemical qualities in raw ingredients (thirteen kinds of cereal grain and their by-product) of mixed feeds were investigated. The total aerobic bacteria counts in the samples were $10^2\;to\;10^6/g$. They were sterlllzed to a undetectable level by 5 to 7 kGy irradiation. Coliforms were contaminated in high levels in all sample, ranging from $10^2\;to\;10^6/g$. They were radiation-llensitive and completely eliminated by irradiation with 3 to 5 kGy. Total fungi, ranging from $10^2\;to\;10^4/g$, mainly osmophiles were identified as Aspergillus and Penicillium. They were eliminated below identification limit by 5 to 7 kGy irradiation. Seven kinds of species, including Aspergillus IkrlJUB. were identified as a potential mycotoxin producers. Physicochemical qualities, such as total amino acid content, total sugar content. TBA value and color difference showed that an optimum dose of irradiation was less detrimental than ethylene oxide fumigation.

A study on the identification of type IIa natural diamonds treated by the HPHT method (HPHT(고온고압)에 의해 처리된 type IIa 천연 다이아몬드의 감별에 관한 연구)

  • Results from PL and Raman spectroscopic analyses of HPHT (high-pressure high-temperature) treated type IIa diamonds are presented, and these spectral characteristics are compared with those of untreated diamonds of similar color and type. We identify a number of significant changes by 325 nm He/Cd laser excitation. Several peaks are removed completely, including H4, H3 system in HPHT treated diamond. The N3 system, however, increased in emission. Also we can find the behaviour of the nitrogen-vacancy related center N-V centers at 575 and 637.1 nm, as observed with 514 nm Ar ion laser excitation. When these centers are present, the FWHM (full width at half maximum) of 637.1 nm luminescence intensities offers a potential means of separating HPHT-treated from untreated type IIa diamonds. The width of 637.1 nm $(N-V)^-$line measured at the position oi half the peak's height are determine to range from 19.8 to $32.1cm^{-1}$ for HPHT treated diamonds.

Occurrence of Pythium Blight Caused by Pythium aphanidermatum on Chewing Fescue (Pythium aphanidermatum에 의한 Chewing Fescue에 잎마름병 발생)

  • Pythium blight occurred by Pythium aphanidermatum on chewing fescue cv. "Jamestowm II" from early June, 2010 and 2011 at the test field in Daegu University in Gyeongbuk Province, Korea. Disease symptoms on the turfgrass were leaf blights dying from the leaf tip and root rot, which appeared patches of brown to dark brown color or gray brown color in the field. The pathogens (40-1 isolate) of Pythium blight was isolated from the diseased leaf and crown tissue and cultured on potato-dextrose agar (PDA) for identification. Lobulate sporangia were inflated, complex structures, and filamentous sporangia were usually indistinguishable from vegetative hyphae. Sequences of ribosomal RNA gene of the fungus were homologous with similarity of 100% to those of P. aphanidermatum isolates in GenBank database. Pathogenicity was also confirmed on the chewing fescue, creeping betgrass and Kentucky bluegrass by Koch's postulates. This is the first report of Pythium blight on chewing fescue caused by P. aphanidermatum in Korea.
