Contrast Enhancement Method for Images from Visual Sensors (비주얼 센서 영상에 대한 대비 개선 방법)

  • Recently, due to the advancements of sensor network technologies and camera technologies, there are increasing needs to effectively monitor the environment in a region that is difficult to access by using the visual sensor network that combines these two technologies. Since the image captured by the visual sensor reflects the natural phenomenon as it is, the quality of the image may deteriorate depending on the weather or time. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve the contrast of images using the characteristics of images obtained from visual sensors. In the proposed method, we first set the region of interest and then analyzes the change of the color value of the region of interest according to the brightness value of the image. The contrast of an image is improved by using the high contrast image of the same object and the analysis information. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed method improves the contrast of an image by restoring the color components of the low contrast image simply and accurately.

Color Enhancement for Cubic Zirconia with Low Temperature Annealing (큐빅지르코니아의 색향상을 위한 저온열처리 공정 연구)

  • Colored cubic zirconia specimen made by skull melt process were annealed in vacuum at the temperature of $1200^{\circ}C{\sim}1400^{\circ}C$ for 10~60 minutes to enhance the color. All the seven specimen become darker and eventually be black as annealing temperature and time increase. The black samples turned into original colors when we elevated the temperature with oxy-acetylene torch for around 10 minutes in the air. Finally, we could tune the colors of cubic zirconia either anneal in vacuum or the black samples in the air to obtain the proposed colors. Our proposed new process may be appropriate to fabricate the precious synthetic colored cubic zirconia to simulate the natural colored gem quality diamonds.

Enhancement Techniques of Color Segmentation for Detecting Missing Persons in Smart Lighting System using Radar and Camera Sensors (레이다 및 카메라 내장형 스마트 조명에서 실종자 탐지용 색상 검출 향상 기법)

  • This paper proposes color segmentation for detecting missing persons in a smart lighting system using radar and camera sensors. Recently, smart lighting systems built-in radar and cameras have been efficient in saving energy and searching for missing persons, simultaneously. In smart lighting systems, radar detects moving objects and then the lights turn on and camera records. The video recorded is useful to find out missing persons. The color of their clothes worn in missing persons is one of critical hints to look for missing persons. Therefore, color segmentation is an effective means for detecting the color of their clothes. In this paper, during the color segmentation step, the ROI(Region of interest) setting based on the size of an object is applied and the background is reduced. According to experimental results, the color segmentation has good accuracy of more than 97%.

Conditional fuzzy cluster filter for color image enhancement under the mixed color noise (혼합된 칼라 잡음하에서 칼라 영상 향상을 위한 조건적인 퍼지 클러스터 필터)

  • Color image is more effective than gray one in human visual perception. Therefore, color image processing becomes important area. Color images are often corrupted by noises due to the input sensor, channel transmission errors and so on. Some filtering techniques such as vector median, mean filter, and vector $\alpha-trimmed$ mean filter have been used for color noise removal. Among them, vector $\alpha-trimmed$ mean filter gave the best performance in the mixed color noise. But, there are edge shift and blurring effect because vector $\alpha-trimmed$ mean filter is uniformly processed across the image. So, we proposed a conditional fuzzy cluster filter to improve this problems. Simulation results showed that the proposed scheme improves the NCD measure and visual quality over the conventional vector $\alpha-trimmed$ mean filter in the mixed color noise.

Color Enhancement of the Type II and Type I aB Brown Diamonds into Colorless by HPHT Process (고온고압법에 의한 Type II, Type I aB 갈색 다이아몬드의 색향상)

  • It is possible to enhance the color of the natural diamond with a high pressure high temperature(HPHT) process. We employed a pyrophyllite tube cell and cubic press apparatus for HPHT treatment on the brown colored Type II (5.6 GPa/ $1700^{\circ}C$/ 52 min), and Type I aB(5.6 GPa/ $1650^{\circ}C$/ 30 min) diamond samples. We investigated the microstructure, Types, fluorescence, properties of the diamonds with an optical microscopy, FT-IR, photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy, Diamond-View, and micro-Raman spectroscopy. Two tinted brown diamonds changed into colorless just after the HPHT process. Optical microscopy showed that no crack and significant inclusion evolution occurred during the HPHT process except the small graphite spot appeared in Type I aB sample. FTIR spectrum confirmed that no Type, amber center, and platelet defect change with the HPHT treatment. Diamond-View could not distinguish the HPHT treated diamonds from the naturals. PL spectroscopy showed that N3 and H3 color centers remained even after HPHT process. Consequently, we successfully changed the color of diamonds into colorless by 5.6 GPa HPHT process.

  • In this paper. a method for color image segmentation using region merging is proposed. A inhomogeneity which exists in image is reduced by smoothing with non-linear filtering. saturation enhancement and intensity averaging in previous step of image segmentation. and a similar regions are segmented by non-uniform quantization using zero-crossing information of color histogram. A edge strength of initial region is measured using high frequency energy of wavelet transform. A candidate region which is merged in next step is selected by doing this process. A similarity measure for region merging is processed using Euclidean distance of R. G. B color channels. A Proposed method can reduce an over-segmentation results by irregular light sources et. al, and we illustrated that the proposed method is reasonable by simulation.

Study for the Expression for Various Models of Furniture and Wooden Trifling Article Made of Layered Plywood

  • We suggest layered sculpture method and color painting method with new materials for the preparation of various expressions for aesthetic model of the furniture and interior articles made of river birch. Through the analysis of the layered sculpture method and preference, we try to set a new direction for the enhancement of the decoration for the furniture or article design made of birch plywood. Also, we study the fittest manufacturing process after selecting color painting materials different from the existing painting method and goes well with the furniture or article made of river birch. Color painting which systemic application of the layered plywood from birch and new paints such as Oriental dye is one of the best schemes to realize various possibility of the furniture and wooden article made of the layered plywood, and this research result has affected positive effect on the development fields such as wooden furniture and interior articles.

Stellar populations of Galactic Globular Cluster $\omega$ Cen using HST/WFC3 near-UV observations

  • The most massive galactic globular cluster, $\omega$ Cen has been observed using recently mounted WFC3/UVIS cameras of Hubble Space Telescope at both near-UV and optical bands. We present the photometry of stars in the central region of $\omega$ Cen in F225W, F275W and F336W bands. The near-UV color-magnitude diagrams and color-color diagrams of stars in $\omega$ Cen show multiple red giant branches and main sequences as already discovered in both ground-based and HST/ACS observations in the optical bands. We modelled the stellar populations of $\omega$ Cen using Yonsei Isochrone, where $\alpha$-particles and helium enhancement processes have been included properly. We compare the best-fit stellar populations obtained from the current near-UV observations to the suggested stellar population models based on optical band data. We also discuss the methodological issues arising when dealing with the near-UV observations; red-leak in near-UV filters and the huge interstellar extinction in near-UV bands compared to the optical bands and its non-linear effect in color-magnitude diagrams.

  • The characteristics of nylon6/ionomer semi interpenetrating networks (IPN) as a molded-in-color (MIC) compound had been studied, and comparison was made with nylon6/ionomer blends. Nylon6/ionomer semi IPN shows better homogeneity in phase morphology than nylon6/ionomer blend, and it caused better anti-scratching performance than the blend. This semi IPN structure resulted in lowered crystallization rate, increased melt viscosity and less temperature dependency of viscosity. As a result, we may expect the enhancement of melt processing characteristics in an injection molding process using nylon6/ionomer semi IPN as a MIC compound.

  • Colonoscopy plays an important role in reducing the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer by detecting adenomas and other precancerous lesions. Image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE) increases lesion visibility by enhancing the microstructure, blood vessels, and mucosal surface color, resulting in the detection of colorectal lesions. In recent years, various IEE techniques have been used in clinical practice, each with its unique characteristics. Numerous studies have reported the effectiveness of IEE in the detection of colorectal lesions. IEEs can be divided into two broad categories according to the nature of the image: images constructed using narrow-band wavelength light, such as narrow-band imaging and blue laser imaging/blue light imaging, or color images based on white light, such as linked color imaging, texture and color enhancement imaging, and i-scan. Conversely, artificial intelligence (AI) systems, such as computer-aided diagnosis systems, have recently been developed to assist endoscopists in detecting colorectal lesions during colonoscopy. To gain a better understanding of the features of each IEE, this review presents the effectiveness of each type of IEE and their combination with AI for colorectal lesion detection by referencing the latest research data.
