  • This study analyzes the current wearing status and awareness of warning clothing for elementary school students as well as to identify points of improvement for traffic accident prevention and clothing safety education. A survey was conducted on 279 elementary $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ graders in the Incheon area and Ansan in 2017 June & July. The results showed that more than 2/3 of participants had no experience wearing warning clothing. Second, 63% of participants answered 'traffic accident prevention' as the main purpose of warning clothing, showing that about 2/3 are aware of the importance. Third, yellow was the most preferred color of fluorescent material for warning clothing with a significant difference of preference by grade. The favorite color combination of participants was yellow & orange followed by yellow & light green, but showed a significant difference between boys and girls. Fourth, the most preferred form of warning clothing was fluorescent short sleeves and shorts without reflective tape, suggesting that students paid more to the purpose for reflective tape. Fifth, while 68% of participants were negative towards wearing safety clothes that are currently available, 66% were willing to try safety clothes if the color and the design improved. The results suggest an improved education with more emphasis on the purpose of clothing safety. Color and design adjustment of the current warning clothing is also recommended for a more active participation by elementary school students.

  • In this paper we present a novel approach for image retrieval using color and edge information. We take into account the HSI(Hue, Saturation and Intensity) color space instead of RGB space, which emphasizes more on visual perception. In our system colors in an image are clustered into a small number of representative colors. The color feature descriptor consists of the representative colors and their percentages in the image. An improved cumulative color histogram distance measure is defined for this descriptor. And also, we have developed an efficient edge detection technique as an optional feature to our retrieval system in order to surmount the weakness of color feature. During the query processing, both the features (color, edge information) could be integrated for image retrieval as well as a standalone entity, by specifying it in a certain proportion. The content-based retrieval system is tested to be effective in terms of retrieval and scalability through experimental results and precision-recall analysis.

  • The demand for recognizing the color as well as the object shape is increasing to use the detailed information, because-the expense of color input/output devices become cheap. The research on the color correction should be researched for the exact color presentation and color reproduction of color input/output systems. In this paper, we researched on the color correction of color scanner. The characterization of color scanner is a two step process of gray-balancing and color transformation. The decoupling of the gray-balancing from the color transformation enables the portability of the scanner characterization. We used the least square methods for the line fitting and the Neural Network for the storage space and computation speed. The output of Neural Network is similar to the target value in three-dimensional tristimulus space. The proposed color correction method can be used for all scanners of a manufacturer's model because of the portability.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify point makeup purchasing and using behavior according to the personal color awareness. Most women considered their favorite color first when purchasing lipsticks and skin color when purchasing cheek powder or foundation. They considered makeup concept first when applying lipsticks, eye shadows, and cheek powder but skin color applying foundations and manicures. Factors of personal color awareness were preferences & utilization awareness, other's advice, and direct awareness, and were segmented into PC intermediate group, high PC group, and PC retard group. PC intermediate group were in the late 20's and the early 30's, average incomes with high education, and patronized discount stores for point makeups, used fashion color as a criterion when selecting lipsticks, foundations, and manicures, apparel color when applying eye shadows, skin color when applying cheek creams, and preferred imported lipsticks and manicures. High PC group were among unmarried women in the early 20's, university students, high income households with medium level of pocket money, spent more for point makeup, and patronized department stores and internet shopping mall, used skin color or fashion color as criteria when selecting point makeup, referenced makeup concept when applying point makeup, preferred imported point makeup. PC retard group were among married women in the late 30's with low education and low income, spent less for point makeup and pocket money, and selected domestic point makeup, used their favorite color as a criterion when selecting point makeups and apparel color when applying lipsticks and cheek creams.

  • The aim of this study is to characterize the optical properties of white light-emitting diodes lighting modules and then to evaluate the sensitivity of students and teachers in reacting to the optical properties of these modules. For the sake of this study, each of 5 lighting modules was introduced to the 5 test cabinets. The 5 test cabinets were evaluated and analyzed the student and teacher's sensitivity reaction. We have selected If questions on sensitivity of the lighting and evaluated these questions with semantic differential method. To verify the reliability and objectivity of the questions, the feasibility survey was carried out by a preliminary test. As a result of the test, the sensitivities on the test cabinets were classified the 4 factors, namely, activity as the first factor, stability as the second one , potency as the third one and sensitive image as the fourth one respectively. By the evaluation of student and teacher's sensitivity on the correlated color temperature, they preferred the cabinet with the higher color temperature in view of the activity and potency. And they preferred the cabinet with the lower color temperature in view of the stability factor. In the sensitive image, they preferred the 5800K, bluish white lighting regardless of the color temperature. By the evaluation on the color rendering index, they preferred the cabinet with the higher color rendering index in view of the activity, stability and sensitive image. In the potency factor, they preferred the white lighting with the middle color rendering index.

  • In this study, the effect of clothing color preferences of adolescents on their self expression desires and fashion interest were investigated. These investigations were intended to understand some psychological aspects of adolescents and to make a contribution to guiding them in forming self identities and expressing themselves confidently through clothing. This research was based on 452 copies of questionnaires distributed to middle and high school students living in Seoul and other metropolitan areas from the middle of March to the beginning of April, 2008. The results were as follows. First, there was a significant difference in clothing color preference and clothing color tone preference between male students and female students. Second, the factor analysis which has been performed by taking assimilation, individuality, recognition, and image management as composing dimensions of self expression desire shows significant differences between these dimensions. Third, the difference in the self expression desires according to clothing color preference showed that the group preferring cool colors and the group preferring warm colors possessed the same highest self expression desires. And, it was revealed that the clothing color preference was a significant variable influencing fashion interest. Fourth, the effect of self expression desire on the fashion interest degree showed that recognition was the most significant factor and image management was the next.

  • The natural dyestuff(chestnut dye) was manufactured from chestnut hulls by boiling in 0.5 NaOH solution and powdering in freeze dryer. To investigate the dyeability and color fastness, cotton, wool, silk and nylon fabrics were dyed under several conditions using the manufactured chestnut dye. Dyeing operation was carried in acidic dyebath of pH 4-5 because the chestnut dye is anionic. Dyeabilities on wool, silk and nylon fabrics were good, especially nylon fabrics were dyed deeper than others. But dyeability on cotton fabrics was not good. All the dyed fabrics showed excellent color fastness to crocking. Color fastness to laupdering of them were moderate to good. Also light fastness of them were moderate to good except nylon. The light fastness of dyed nylon fabrics was as poor as grade 1. But they could be improved to grade 4 by aftertreatment with gallic acid.

  • To study the influence of background color and substratum on hypermelanosis of starry flounder, we compared the daily food intake (DFI), the feed efficiency (FE), the survival, the growth, the ratio of pigmented area on the blind side and the ratio of hypermelanic fish duplicately reared for 180 days in dark-green FRP aquarium (control), white FRP aquarium together with dark-green substratum. The ratio of pigmented area on the blind side was significantly higher at the dark-green group than at the white group. DFI, FE and growth were higher in the dark-green substratum. Pigmented area rate and ratio of hypermelanic fish were significantly higher at the dark green group than at the high dark-green substratum. The results suggest that bright tank color and substratum bottom could inhibit the hypermelanosis.
