  • Purpose: The color of dental zirconia is very important in terms of aesthetics. To reproduce the color tone, a colorant is applied to zirconia to express the color tone. I would like to point out that the color, brightness, and saturation of the colorant used to express the color A3 may vary depending on the manufacturer. Methods: Each zirconia block received a total of 25 circular specimens for the experiment. The zirconia specimen was then deposited by colorant type to reproduce the color tone. Color differences and translucency were measured using a spectrophotometer. To compare and analyze the zirconia color according to the type of colorant, one-way ANOVA was used. Results: For each type of zirconia colorant, there was no statistically significant difference in translucency or b* (p>0.05). There was a statistical difference in L* and a* (p<0.05). Conclusion: The ΔE*ab (D65) value is less than 5.5 or less, and the color difference is within an acceptable range.

  • Existing retaining walls are usually made from only one cast form and any damage must be promptly repaired. However, when a part of a retaining wall is repaired, a gap can be created between the repaired and existing parts, along with an unpleasing visual effect. As such, the whole structure is often reconstructed, rather than repairing one part, resulting in construction waste and possible contamination of the environment. Accordingly, the current study proposes a construction method for a retaining wall that uses separate blocks to downsize of quantity of construction waste. In addition, by changing the color or modifying the block cover a more environmentally friendly retaining wall construction method is achieved.

  • This paper presents a new color Image coding method which estimates color component Images from luminance image using spectral correlation m wavelet transformed domain More specifically, the wavelet transform is performed to the luminance image(Y), and then, for an efficient quad-tree division to encompass the varying block size, a cost function IS defined using high frequency coefficients generated by wavelet decomposition Next, a scale factor and an offset factor for each the block to minimize the estimation error between luminance image(Y) and R, B Images, are iteratively calculated With respect to the varying block size With associated cost function.

  • Effects of a carboxylated styrene-butadiene-based liquid additive on the microstructure, mechanical strength and decolorization resistance of inorganic pigment layer in the color block have been examined. More dense inorganic pigment layer characterized by lower apparent porosity, lower water absorption and uniform pigment distribution has been achieved by incorporation of a liquid additive. Also significant enhancements in the mechanical strength and decolorization resistance have been observed.

  • Currently, due to the widespread use of a smartphone, QR codes allow users to access a variety of added services. However, the QR codes posted on curved surfaces tend to be non-uniformly illuminated and bring about the decline of recognition rate. So, in this paper, the block-adaptive binarization policy is adopted to find an optimal threshold appropriate for bimodal image like QR codes. For a large block, its histogram distribution is found to get an initial threshold and then the block is partitioned to reflect the local characteristics of small blocks. Also, morphological operation is applied to their neighboring boundary at the discontinuous at the QR code junction. This paper proposes an authentication method based on the color code, uniquely painted within QR code. Through a variety of practical experiments, it is shown that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional method in detecting QR code and also maintains good recognition rate up to 40 degrees on curved surfaces.

  • This paper presents an efficient object-based color image-retrieval algorithm that is suitable for the classification and retrieval of images from small to mid-scale datasets, such as images in PCs, tablets, phones, and cameras. The proposed method first finds salient regions by using regional feature vectors, and also finds several dominant colors in each region. Then, each salient region is partitioned into small sub-blocks, which are assigned 1 or 0 with respect to the number of pixels corresponding to a dominant color in the sub-block. This gives a binary map for the dominant color, and this process is repeated for the predefined number of dominant colors. Finally, we have several binary maps, each of which corresponds to a dominant color in a salient region. Hence, the binary maps represent the spatial distribution of the dominant colors in the salient region, and the union (OR operation) of the maps can describe the approximate shapes of salient objects. Also proposed in this paper is a matching method that uses these binary maps and which needs very few computations, because most operations are binary. Experiments on widely used color image databases show that the proposed method performs better than state-of-the-art and previous color-based methods.

  • Purpose: This study was investigated the effect of multilayer zirconia block type and sintering method on fracture strength, micro structure and color of zirconia copings. Methods: Three kinds of multi-layered zirconia blocks were used to identify the effects of the kinds of multi-layered zirconia blocks and sintering methods on fracture strength and color reproducibility of zirconia copings. 60 Zirconia copings were fabricated and fracture strength, micro structure and color reproducibility were compared and evaluated. Results: In all the blocks, the CS group, which refers to the general sintering method had higher fracture strength of zirconia copings than the MS group that refers to the microwave sintering method(MCS/MMS; 2,107.5N/1,930.4N, DCS/DMS; 917.0N/879.1N, UCS/UMS; 2,256.9/2,050.7N). In relation to CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ values of zirconia copings depending on the kinds of multi-layered zirconia blocks and sintering methods, the MS group using the microwave sintering method had lower brightness and chroma than the CS group using the general sintering method. Conclusion: In all the blocks, the CS group(general sintering) had higher fracture strength of zirconia copings than the MS group(microwave sintering). In relation to CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ values of zirconia copings depending on the kinds of multilayered zirconia blocks and sintering methods, the MS group using the microwave sintering method had lower brightness and chroma than the CS group using the general sintering method.

  • Measurement of skin temperature is most frequently used to evaluate effect of sympathetic block. Sticker type skin temperature indicator, $ProChecker^{(R)}$, uses metamocolor, which changes the darkness of the color by giving and taking of electrons in response to temperature. We examined the accuracy of this skin temperature indicator in pain clinic patients who were treated with stellate ganglion block. Ten minutes before, and 10~20 minutes after stellate ganglion block, skin temperature on both dorsum of hand were measured using both $ProChecker^{(R)}$ and thermography concurrently. The results showed that skin temperature measured by $ProChecker^{(R)}$ was feasible, in correlation to thermography. Sticker type temperature indicator ($ProChecker^{(R)}$) is concluded as a useful monitor of skin temperature during nerve block in outpatient clinics.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare color parameters of different fabrication method of Lava ceram powder, Lava DVS blocks, IPS e.max ceram and IPS e.max zirpress. Methods: The three available shades(A1, A2, A3.5) of Lava & Kavo zirconia blocks were examined. For each of three colors, three different thickness were tested, 5 times of measurement frequency. The measurements were made using a spectrophotometer equipped with an integrating sphere using the CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ colorimetric system. Results: Lava build-up group and Lava DVS group showed clinically perceived color difference, on the other hand IPS e.max build-up group and IPS e.max zirpress group did not show clinically perceived color difference to shade allowed on core. When the thickness of porcelain veneer increased from Lava and IPS e.max groups, color differences(${\Delta}E$) were decreased. Conclusion: All-ceramic system has color characteristics that clinicians have to consider when selecting materials. Also, manufacturers of different porcelain systems must make every effort to achieve color reproducibility.

  • In this paper, we designed an 8-bit color adjustor for SDTV using Verilog HDL. The conversion block requires a lot of multiplication. So we adopted Booth algorithm to reduce amount of operation and processing time. To improve speed, we designed the system output as parallel structure. We synthesized the designed system using Xilinx ISE and verified the operation through simulation using Modelsim.
