  • Tortillas were prepared using rice and wheat flour. The experimental design incorporated thee independent variables(rice, wheat flour and moisture content) producing 14 samples of different proportions of each variable for each tortilla. The following were analysed using Design Expert 6 to unveil the influences of these variables on tensile strength and color(L, a, b). Results indicated that tensile strength increased with increasing rice and wheat flour content, however, decreased with increasing moisture content. Lighteness(L), of the tortilla increased with increased rice content whereas yellowness(b) increased with increased wheat flour content. The model suggests that tensile strength and color(L, a, b) in tortillas are highly correlated(SD Comment - give correlation coefficient and p-value). As well, the numerical optimization method suggests that the ratio of wheat flour to rice flour to moisture content which maximizes the three responses(tensile strenth, L and b) is 18.26 : 33.92 : 39.24%, 28.15 : 25.77 : 37.50%.

  • To find up using of more efficient white ginseng, white ginseng was dried on various temperature (70, 80, 90,100, 110, 120, 130 and $140^{\circ}C$) with far-infrared drier and analyzed the composition of ginsenoside, carbohydrate, organic acid content and color. The type of ginseng shape was sliced and dried main and fine root, separately. As heating temperature increased, total ginsenoside content increased on main root, its content was the highest at $130^{\circ}C$, while decreased on fine root. Soluble carbohydrate content was the highest at $70^{\circ}C$ both on main and fine root. Increase of Re, Rc and Rb2 content was increased more high at $130^{\circ}C$, especially. But on fine root, content of Rg1, Rg3, Rf and Rb3 was increased and Re, Rc,Rb1 and Rb2 were decreased by the increased of temperature. As heating temperature increased, lightness of both main and fine root were decreased. Redness and yellowness of both main and fine root was increased to $120^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$, respectively and decreased over this temperature.

  • Seated Amitabha Triad at Muwisa Temple (Treasure No. 1312) had been known as wooden Buddha statue, but a precise safety inspection revealed that the statue is terracotta Buddha statue made with clay. The clay layer of Amitabha Triad was conserved due to its severe damage. In this study, experiments were conducted to produce the most appropriate filler for the conservation treatment of the seated Amitabha Triad. Mixed clay samples with various ratios were produced and surface hardening state, crack, color change, and shrinkage of the samples during dry process were measured. Loess, fine sand powder, and cotton were used to produce the mixed clay for the filler with six different ratios and then 12 different concentration glues made with glutinous rice glue, Pachymeniopsis Elliptica glue, and animal glue were added as adhesives. Total 72 types of samples were prepared and comparative study was conducted. As a result, when the mixed clay contains 2.5% cotton compared to the weight per cent of loess and fine sand powder and also loess and fine sand in the mixed clay have a 15:1 ratio, the mixed clay had the lowest shrinkage. Animal glue is considered as an appropriate glue since it had small color change, low physical property change and shringkage. Therefore, mixed clay (loess:fine sand=15:1) mixed with 15ml animal glue is likely to be a suitable filler for conservation treatment of the seated amitabha triad at the Muwisa Temple.

  • This study presents a method for conserving shamanistic spirits in Chiseonggwang Buddha. Scientific investigation has revealed that these spirits have been subject to degeneration as a result of severe exfoliation and pollution. The materials and preservation treatment techniques used in create these shamanistic spirits were identified through visual inspection and using appropriate scientific equipment. The different types of background paper, background material, and color pigments used in create the shamanistic spirits were analyzed using a colorimeter, stereoscopic microscope, and SEM-EDS techniques. The analysis revealed that the pulp paper was used as the background and synthetic fiber polyester as the background material. In addition, the study of the pigment revealed that the color components were all synthetic, except for red lead [Pb3O4] and oyster shell white [CaCO3]. Moreover, it was confirmed that the green pigment, identified as emerald green [Cu(C2H3O2)2.3Cu(AsO2)2], was a major component of shamanistic spirits in the late 19th century. The shamanistic spirits in Chiseonggwang Buddha were conserved by identifying raw materials and pigments through this detailed analysis.

General characteristics of study subjects, habits related to oral health, the oral examination and treatment clinic, participated in oral heath education program were studied by designed administered questionaire. And decay, filling(treatment teeth), missing tooth(lost teeth by dental-caries)was counted by oral examination, and calculated DMFT-index. This study was done from the July, 9, 2006 to Aug. 8, 2006. In a total of 289 immigrant worker, 77.9% of them were men and 22.1% of them were women. 55.7% of their salary was from 1,000,000 won to 1,500,000 won and most of them were working for a fiber industry. Many of them are living in korea for more then three years. DMFT index for men was 2.77 and for women was 4.06 so average of DMFT index was 3.06. 46.7% of them said that they are healthy in oral health state. The question for having difficulty using dental clinic in korea, 65.1% of them said "it is difficult". First reason was a communication problem and second was time. Most of them didn't have a oral health education but 85.1% of them said that they are looking forward to attending oral health education. Immigrant worker had better DMFT index then that of korean blue color worker. But still it is quite difficult for them using dental clinic in korea also cost. It is necessary to support them properly that medical insurance system, medical facilities of quality, medical insurance subscriber beside, made by their language, manual for them. At once, medical service improvement a policy is necessary for immigrant worker in korea.

  • An ultimate purpose of this study was to develop an automatic system for brown rice quality inspection using image processing technique. In this study emphasis was put on developing an algorithm for discriminating the brown rice kernels depending on their external quality with a color image processing system equipped with an adaptor magnifying the input image and optical fiber for oblique lightening. Primarily, geometical and optical features of images were analyzed with paddy and the various brown rice kernel samples such as a sound, cracked, peen-transparent, green-opaque, colored, white-opaque and brokens. Secondary, geometrical and optical parameters significant for identifying each rice kernels were screened by a statistical analysis(STEPWISE and DISCRIM procedure, SAS wer. 6) and an algorithm fur on- line discrimination of the rice kernels in static state were developed, and finally its performance was evaluated. The results are summarized as follows. 1) It was ascertained that the cracked kernels can be detected when e incident angle of the oblique light is less than 2$0^{\circ}C$ but detectivity was significantly affected by the angle between the direction of the oblique light and the longitudinal axis of the rice kernel and also by the location of the embryo with respect to the oblique light. 2) The most significant Parameters which can discriminate brown rice kernels are area, length and R, B and r values among the several geometrical and optical parameters. 3) Discrimination accuracies of the algorithm were ranged from 90% to 96% for a sound, cracked, colored, broken and unhulled, about 81 % for green-transparent and white-opaque and 75 % for green-opaque, respectively.

  • Long time ultrasound scan can cause a temperature rise in human tissue and affect the physical body. This is closely connected with patients' safety. So many researchers have been studied on this matter with animals such as mammals and experimental rat, because diagnostic ultrasound has been used many types of human organ to find disease. Therefore, this study is tested on bean sprouts to search how far the tissue temperature changes because of the excessive scanning consequence from ultrasound diagnosis and frequent number of ultrasonic scanning and how much affect their growth. The United States and several European countries have restrictions for number of scanning, while South Korea does not have any limitation for using ultrasound diagnosis. Comparison was that how different condition affect its' growing. The testing group is like many pregnancy moms to have 50 minutes in B-mode and color doppler mode by linear, convex and sector probe every day for a week and the other is to scan only once during the testing period. As a result, it was confirmed that there was a significant growing difference on frequent ultrasonic scanning group compared to normal one. So the final conclusion is that there needs to have a significant limitation of ultrasound scan time and a number of inspection when having for diagnostic ultrasound and recommendation like USA and a few European countries.

  • This study classified outer-ring galaxies using 25,308 galaxies within z=0.05 from the SDSS DR7, which are larger than Rpet>6 arcsec and whose minor-to-major axis ratio (b/a)<0.6. We selected 531 galaxies that have ring-like structures by visual inspection of the color images of 25,308 galaxies; these galaxies with ring-like structures served as a primary sample from which we selected 90 outer-ring galaxies. The final sample of 69 outer-ring galaxies was selected by examining the photometric properties of the candidate galaxies. Their properties were determined by conducting surface photometry on their u, g, r, i, and z images. The frequency of the outer-ring galaxies was found to be 0.3% of the local galaxies. We examined the environment of the outer-ring galaxies using two measures of environment, namely, the projected distance to the nearest-neighbor galaxy and the local background density. We did not observe any notable difference between outer-ring and other galactic environments.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of a new implant impression technique using bite impression coping and a dual arch tray. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two implant fixtures were placed on maxillary left second premolar and first molar area in dentoform model. The model with two fixtures was used as the reference. The impression was divided into 2 groups, n=10 each. In group 1, heavy/light body silicone impression was made with pick up impression copings and open tray. In group 2, putty/light body silicone impression was made with bite impression copings and dual arch tray. The reference model and the master casts with implant scan bodies were scanned by a laboratory scanner. Surface tessellation language (STL) datasets from test groups was superimposed with STL dataset of reference model using inspection software. The three-dimensional deviation between the reference model and impression models was calculated and illustrated as a color-map. Data was analyzed by independent samples T-test of variance at ${\alpha}=.05$. RESULTS. The mean 3D implant deviations of pick up impression group (group 1) and dual arch impression group (group 2) were 0.029 mm and 0.034 mm, respectively. The difference in 3D deviations between groups 1 and 2 was not statistically significant (P=.075). CONCLUSION. Within limitations of this study, the accuracy of implant impression using a bite impression coping and dual arch tray is comparable to that of conventional pick-up impression.
