We investigated the protection capability of a plate against high speed projectiles demonstrating collision and penetration behaviors by finite element analysis. The element erosion method was used for penetration analysis, which showed that the speed of the projectile was slightly reduced by the collision with the protection plate. Protection capability was measured by the projectile's attitude angle change because the damage of our tanks by projectiles was also dependent on the projectile-tank collision angle. When the length of the protection plate was sufficiently long, the projectile was severely deformed and incapacitated. In the case of a small plate, the projectile was deformed only in the collision region. Thus, projection capability was investigated by the change of attitude angle. The effect of collision angle, velocity, and length of the plate on the rotational and vertical velocities of the projectile was investigated.

Recently the usage of bicycle has increased steeply in Korea owing to traffic culture of well- being. In a car to bicycle accident investigation, the throw distance of bicycle is very important factor for reconstructing of the accident. The variables that influence on the throw distance of bicycle can be classified into the factors of vehicle and bicycle. Simulations and collision tests in actual car to bicycle accident were executed for obtaining throw distance of bicycle. The simulations were done by PC-$CRASH^{TM}$ and for actual crash tests sand bags were used for the behavior of bicyclist instead of dummy. Factors considered were vehicle velocity and the moving angles of bicycle, also the types of bicycle and vehicle were fairy cycle and automobile, respectively. From the results, the throw distances of a head-on tire collision of $0^{\circ}$ direction was longer than that of tire crash test of $45^{\circ}$ direction, and the throw distances of a head -on frame crash test of $90^{\circ}$ direction was longer than that of frame crash test of $45^{\circ}$ direction. In addition restitution coefficient between vehicle and bicycle was estimated as about 0.1 with based on actual crash tests. Finally the increaser vehicle velocity the longer the throw distances of bicycle, and the results of simulation were relatively good agreement to the experimental results.

In this paper, a developed device for detecting target's location and avoiding collision is proposed. Velocity and acceleration model of target are derived to estimate target's information, i.e. position, velocity and acceleration considering process and measurement noise. Kalman filtering method applied to the estimation process and its results was confirmed by simulation. The distance measurements system using laser sensor for moving target system is also developed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Experiments to get information of moving target with velocity and acceleration model was executed. The data with filtering and without filtering was compared by experiments. Discontinuous measured data was changed to smooth and continuous data by Kalman filtering. It is confirmed that desired data was obtained by applying proposed scheme. UI for measuring and monitoring the target data is developed and visual and auditory alarm function is attached on the system Finally, position estimation system of moving target with good performance is achieved by low price equipments.
Various forward collision warning algorithms have studied in order to protect a car accident. For this, in general, algorithms using an external device such as a camera and sensor generate a forward collision warning. However, if using the external device, it can occur errors due to device characteristics when there is rain or fog. Also, the prevention of a chain-reaction collision is insufficient because the system generates a warning in case of only vehicle having a forward collision danger. If it combines the vehicle safety communications, the method becomes a solution to protect a chain-reaction collision. So, In this paper, we proposes a improved forward collision warning algorithm using the wireless communication technique, driver's information, breaking distance, and velocity. And we compare and analyze our algorithm and previous algorithms.

The prediction of binary droplet collisions is important in the formation of falling drops and the evolution of sprays. The droplet velocity, impact parameter, and drop-size ratio influence the interaction between the droplets. The effect of these parameters results in complicated collision phenomena. Droplet collisions can be classified into four types of interactions: bouncing, coalescence, reflexive separation, and stretching separation. In the present study, the interfacial flow problem of the droplet collision was numerically simulated by using the level set method. 2D axisymmetric simulations on the head-on collisions and 3D simulation on the off-center collisions were performed. The numerical results of droplet behavior after the collision agreed well with the experimental and analytical results. The mixing of the mass of the initial droplets after the collision was also predicted by using different species index of colliding droplets.

In the standard CFD code, Lagrangian-Eulerian method is very popular to simulate the liquid spray penetrating into gaseous phase. Though this method can give a simple solution and low computational cost, it have been reported that the Lagrangian spray models have numerical grid dependency, resulting in serious numerical errors. Many researches have shown the grid dependency arise from two sources. The first is due to unaccurate prediction of the droplet-gas relative velocity, and the second is that the probability of binary droplet collision is dependent on the grid resolution. In order to solve the grid dependency problem, the improved spray models are implemented in the KIVA-3V code in this study. For reducing the errors in predicting the relative velocity, the momentum gain from the gaseous phase to liquid particles were resolved according to the gas-jet theory. In addition, the advanced algorithm of the droplet collision modeling which surmounts the grid dependency problem was applied. Then, in order to validate the improved spray model, the computation is compared to the experimental results. By simultaneously regarding the momentum coupling and the droplet collision modeling, successful reduction of the numerical grid dependency could be accomplished in the simulation of the high-pressure injection diesel spray.
This paper presents a new method that generates a path that has no collision with the obstacles or the characters by using the three motion parameters, and automatically creates natural motions of characters that are confined to the path. Our method consists of three parameters: the joint information parameter, the behavior information parameter, and the environment information parameter. The joint information parameters are extracted from the joint angle data of the character and this information is used when creating a path following motion by finding the relation-function of the parameters on each joint. A user can set the behavior information parameter such as velocity, status, and preference and this information is used for creating different paths, motions, and collision avoidance patterns. A user can create the virtual environment such as road and obstacle, also. The environment is stored as environment information parameters to be used later in generating a path without collision. The path is generated using Hermit-curve and each control point is set at important places.

We have developed a planar impact model with a capability of reverse calculation to reconstruct various types of automobile collisions. This topic is the main part of what is referred to as accident reconstruction. The model uses the principle of impulse and momentum, and introduces a restitution coefficient and an impulse ratio at the impact center. Based on the car-to-car collision test results, we present how to estimate the restitution coefficient and the impulse ratio from some impact conditions. To validate the model and improve its reliability in accident analysis, the collision analysis has been performer with the estimated parameters. The analysis and experimental results agree well in the kinetic energy loss and the post-impact velocity.
Molecular dynamics simulation is used to study the binary collisions of nanometer-sized droplets of argon in the presence of a surrounding gas. By systematically varying the droplet size, the impact parameter and the velocity of collision, the outcome of such collisions were examined and they can be classified into coalescence, separation and shattering. If one of the colliding droplets is half or less than the other in diameter, a shattering is not possible to occur. The threshold of impact parameter for a given separation was studied by adjusting the Weber number. Overall nanoscale droplets were more likely to coalesce than the macroscopic sized ones due to their high surface-to-volume ratio.

In this paper, a real-time collision avoidance algorithm is proposed for experimental Autonomous Vehicle(XAV). To ensure real-time implementation, a virtual potential field is calculated in one dimensional space. The attractive force is generated by the steering command either transmitted in the remote control station or calculated in the Autonomous Navigation System(ANS) of the XAV. The repulsive force is generated by obstacle information obtained from Laser Range Finder(LRF) mounted on the XAV. Using these attractive and repulsive forces, modified steering, velocity and emergency stop commands are created to avoid obstacles and follow a planned path. The suggested algorithm is inserted as one component in the XAV system. Through various real experiments and technical demonstration using the XAV, the usefulness and practicality of the proposed algorithm are verified.
