The first part of this study deals with the difference of system between Korea and England. Among the most salient difference is that the system of Korea was established by the gorvernment itself in order to solve some problems derived from management, whereas that in England came into being for citizens to help the poor with housing problems as a Chrisitian social movement. • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of accreditation on curriculum in Korean engineering education. To analyze the curriculum, bulletins of three colleges accredited programs and three colleges non-accredited programs from 2002 to 2010 were compared. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the accreditation for engineering education has a considerable influence on curriculum by strengthening the concentration areas, setting general education directions to fit engineering needs, and reinforcing major and MSC(math, science and computer) subjects. Secondly, the accreditation for engineering education causes significant changes in the educational objectives and contents. Lastly, it has an indirect influence on the curricula of non-accredited programs, such as increasing the number of MSC credits and accepting engineering design courses. Thus, the process of curriculum improvement is revealed in more global standardized engineering curricula.

  • Modern education, with special reference to higher education (HE), is far taken out of the traditional meaning of education. A number of business features have infiltrated these institutions of HE where students assume the place of a customer. In the present business scenario customer relationship management (CRM) technology assumes an important role in managing customers. Therefore a relevant question would be to know whether educational institutions need to implement this technology to manage their constituent relationships. This paper makes an attempt to evaluate studies on commercial features of a modern educational system and then present the findings of a study conducted to know the relevance of CRM Technology in HE. An evaluation is also made to know the awareness of the concept of CRM among the educators. The findings show that the educators' awareness of CRM strategies is good, of CRM concepts is poor and of practice is average. Further, an overwhelming majority of the respondents felt that CRM is relevant for educational institutions in the present scenario.

  • TQM which has been applied to the industry area is widely accepted to the non-for-profit area and public sector. Especially educational institution including university and college has adopted TQM as a competitive weapon in several developed countries such as United States and United Kingdom. But there is no interest in the Korean educational area except for several colleges which have got ISO 9000 certification. In this study, we analyzed several best-practiced foreign colleges which have applied TQM to improve their competitiveness. Also, we tried to explore the applicability of TQM to the Korean educational area by developing TQM model for 'S' college.

  • This paper analyzes the wage structure of college professors in private institutions in Korea. An analysis of earning functions reveals that the human capital of the professors is of more general type rather than firm-specific one. It is also found that the wage differential among colleges is far greater than that within colleges. Finally, the influence of research output or the fields of study on wage is found to be small. This shows that compensation for professors is set largely independent of individual performance or labor market conditions for professors.
