  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of major satisfaction, self-esteem and nursing professionalism on college (life) adjustment in nursing students. Methods: Data were collected using structured questionnaires from 179 nursing students at a university located in Seoul. The collected data were analyzed through the mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 27.0. Results: As a result, the average major satisfaction was 4.08 out of 5, the average self-esteem was 3.02 out of 4, the average nursing professionalism was 3.87 out of 5, and college life adjustment was 3.77 out of 5. Major satisfaction, self-esteem, and nursing professionalism were statistically correlated with college life adjustment. Self-esteem (β=.33, p<.001), major satisfaction (β=.24, p=.003), and major satisfaction at the time of admission (β=.22, p=.002) had a significant effect on college life adjustment. These factors explained 47.7% of college life adjustment (F=24.22, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings suggest there is a need to develop an educational program for nursing students to improve their self-esteem and major satisfaction.

Results: The results of this study were as follows. We ran multiple regression analyses to see which critical factors influenced career maturity. The general characteristics significantly associated with career maturity were preference for clinical nursing, admission to nursing college due to belief, time off, and being satisfied with clinical practice. Regarding clinical practice stress, clinic environment, interpersonal relationship conflict, inappropriate role model and conflict with patients were significantly associated with career maturity. Methods: This study used a comparative research design. A total of 85 junior nursing students participated in the study, and data from 76 students were analyzed using SPSS WIN 20.0. Among them, 44 students experienced pediatric nursing clinical preceptorship. Results: The students with clinical preceptorship showed a significantly higher score in nursing skill related items of professional self-concept and the confidence in knowledge of injection preparation and administration compared to the counterpart students. Practicum satisfaction was also significantly higher in the students with clinical preceptorship than in the other students. There were significant positive correlations among professional self-concept, performance confidence, and practicum satisfaction. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that clinical preceptorship is an effective educational method to teach clinical practicum of pediatric nursing. The use of clinical preceptorship needs to be considered to motivate nursing students actively involved into the clinical practicum. The roles of clinical preceptors should be clearly identified in clinical education.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing intentions regarding blood donation among nursing university students. Methods: We collected data from 165 nursing students at a university in D city via a self-administered questionnaire from May 28 to May 30, 2018. Results: Intentions of blood donation had significant positive correlations with blood donation motivation (r=.52, p<.001). Also, blood donation motivation had significant positive correlations with self-identity (r=.27, p=.013). A regression analysis showed that factors affecting intention of blood donation were intrinsic motivation for blood donation (${\beta}=.30$, p=.028), and extrinsic motivation for blood donation (${\beta}=.32$, p=.013). These factors explained 25% of intentions of blood donation (F=8.06, p<.001). Conclusion: Therefore, motivation and self-identity should be considered when developing blood donation programs for nursing college students.

Stress for college life and depression showed a significant positive correlation (r=.60, p<.001), while depression and social support showed a significant negative correlation (r=-.46, p<.001). Lastly, stress for college life and social support showed a significant negative correlation (r=-.55, p<.001). The analysis of the mediator effect of social support in the association between stress for college life and depression showed that social support had a significant mediator effect. Conclusion: Among nursing students, social support may be a mediator in the association between stress for college life and depression. Therefore, strategies for nursing intervention to improve social support should be developed for nursing students.
