Pathway Analysis on the Influence of Health Promoting Behavior(HPB) and Depression Cognitive Scale(DCS) on Smoking Cessation Thoughts and Intention to Quit Smoking of College Students who Smoke (일개 대학생 흡연자의 금연 생각과 금연의도가 건강증진행위와 우울인지에 미치는 영향에 대한 경로분석)

  • This study attempts to set a pathway on smoking cessation behavior and to verify it by an analysis of the students who smoke. The study was performed with an analysis of the data of 160 students at N university. There were statistically significant differences among the students who desired to quit smoking (or who expressed interest in quitting smoking) in the following areas: thoughts about smoking cessation, intention to quit smoking, health promoting behavior (HPB), and depression cognitive scale (DCS) (p<.01). The student's major was also shown to have a statistically significant influence on one's intention to quit smoking (p=.034) and HPB (p=.044). As thoughts about smoking cessation increased, HPB also showed a significant increase (p<.05). Additionally, as HPB scores increased, DCS scores decreased significantly (p<.001), and thoughts about smoking cessation increased, while DCS scores decreased significantly (p=.027). This study confirmed the pathway that the intention to quit smoking influences DCS by mediating the effects of HPB and that thoughts about smoking cessation influence DCS.

The Eating-Related Characteristics Questionnaire and Its Correlations with Anthropometry, Nutrient Intakes, Depression, and Personality Dimensions : the Validity of Its Use on Korean College Students (대학생을 대상으로 한 섭식특성 질문지의 타당성 연구 - 체격, 영양소 섭취, 우울 및 성격차원과의 상관성에 의한 -)

  • This study was conducted to determine if Mehrabian's eating-related characteristics questionnaire could be effectively applied in predicting obesity and eating disorders among Korean college students by examining the correlations between eating-related characteristics and anthropometry, nutrient intakes, psychological aspects of depression, and personality dimensions. The data were collected from 151 female students in classes of nutrition or psychology in Kyungnam University. Measurements of height, weight and triceps skinfold thickness (TSf) were made by well-trained interviewers, and BMI was calculated. Daily nutrient intakes were obtained from the self-reported three-day dietary records for the kinds and the amounts of foods consumed by the student subjects. The students were also asked to complete three questionnaires : Mehrabian's eating-related characteristics questionnaire, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, and the Berk Depression Inventory. The results of the study were as follows : 1) Reliability of factored homogeneous item dimensions (FHIDS) of the translated version of the eating-related characteristics questionnaire showed a similar profile compared with the original. Moreover, the loading values of Cronbach-$\alpha$ for some FHIDs, which were excluded in order to constitute primary-level factors (for example, 'predisposition to obesity' etc) with a high reliability, were much lower than Mehrabian's. Therefore the eating-related characteristics questionnaire could be effectively used for Korean students for predicting predisposition to obesity and eating disorders. 2) With regard to the relationship between anthropometric indices and eating-related characteristics, BMI measurements showed a high and a positive correlation with 'predisposition to obesity' and 'uncontrollable urges to eat', and a negative correlation with a 'predisposition to anorexia'. The heavier body weight and the more fat mass that the subjects had, the higher the probability that the subjects were overeating. 3) The intakes of some minerals (Fe, K, Na) and Vitamin C showed significantly negative correlations with a 'predisposition to obesity' and a 'predisposition to anorexia'. But the intakes of vitamin B$_2$, niacin, and retinol were positively correlated with'uncontrollable urges to eat'. 4) Among personality dimensions, neuroticism had a positive correlation with a 'predisposition to obesity', 'uncontrollable urges to eat', and 'predisposition to anorexia'. 5) Neuroticism was negatively correlated with intakes of calories, carbohydrates, K, Fe, Vitamin C, etc. On the contrary, all personality dimensions were positively correlated with intakes of retinol. In conclusion, the translated version of Mehrabian's eating-related characteristics questionnaire appears to be effective for nutritional or psychological assessments of any predisposition to eating disorders among Korean college students.

A Comparison of Psychological Characteristics between Sexually Assaulted and Molested Victims Using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (다면적 인성검사 II를 이용한 성폭행과 성추행 피해자의 심리적 특성 비교)

  • Objectives : This study analyzed psychological aftereffects and made comparisons between victims who were either sexually assaulted or molested using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2(MMPI-2). Methods : The participants were adult women who visited the Busan Smile Center within 6 months following sexual assault. This study categorized the participants according to types of sexual violence and then identified their social demographic features and characteristics. Student's t-tests were carried out to compare the MMPI-2 results between the sexually assaulted group and sexually molested group. Chi-square tests were also conducted to compare between participants who scored above 65T. Results : Among the 55 participants, 32 were sexually assaulted; 23 were sexually molested. Significant differences between the two groups were found in the following scales: F, F(B), F(P), Pt, Sc, Ma, RC6 and PSYC. Moreover, the number of participants with higher scores in the Pa, Pt, Sc, RC6, and PSYC scales in the sexually assaulted group was significantly higher than in the sexually molested group. Conclusions : Both groups of victims may commonly suffer beyond the moderate level of depression and anxiety in the post-case term. In addition, the sexually assaulted group seems to suffer relatively more from panic and psychological pain than the sexually molested group does.

Test Anxiety Investigation of Students in Oriental Medicine College by Using Korea's version-Test Anxiey Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Symptom Check List-90-Revision (시험불안척도, 상태-특성불안 척도, 간이정신진단검사를 이용한 한의학과 대학생의 시험불안 특성)

  • Objective : The aim of this study is to investigate and measure the Test-anxiety of college students in OO Oriental Medicine by using Korea's version-Test Anxiey Inventory(K-TAI-K), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI), Symptom Check List-90-Revision(SCL-90-R), etc. Methods : We studied 181 students who being at OO College of Oriental Medicine in second semester, 2007 We used some questionaries like K-TAI-K, STAI, SCL-90-R , College Life Satisfacaion, Life Event Questionnaire. Results and Conclusions : 1.141 persons(83,43%) of students feel the largest test anxiety before test. 18 persons(9.94%) of students feel the largest test anxiety after test. 2.The 1st grade students of preparatory course and 4th grade students of regular course have the lowest score in State Anxiety Inventory and obsessive-compulsive of SCL-90-R. The 2nd grade students of regular course have the lowest score in State Anxiety Inventory and obsessive-compulsive of SCL-90-R 3. Students who failed in test one time have the lowest score , and who failed in test more than two times have the highest score in K-TAl-K Students who failed one time in grade promotion more than two times showed high score in second K-TAI-K. 4. The higher grade, the lower score in College Life Satisfaction. The scores of College Life Satisfaction have negative correlations with those of K-TAI-K, STAI SCL-90-R except phobic anxiety, 5. The scores of Life Event Questionnaire have positive correlations with those of K-TAI-K, STAI and SCL-90-R except phobic anxiety. 6. The scores of K-TAl-K have positive correlations with those of STAI, SCL-90-R, College Life Satisfaction and Life Event Questionnaire. A correlation coefficient of obsessive-compulsive scale is highest, anxiety scale is second, interpersonal sensitivity scale is third, depression scale is fourth high among the scales of SCL-90-R.

Effect of Symptoms of Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder on Stress and Depressive Symptoms in Soldiers (군인들에서 성인 주의력 결핍 과잉 행동 장애 증상이 스트레스와 우울증에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate whether and how the symptoms of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affect the stress and depressive symptoms in Korean soldiers. Methods : Data were collected on 131 subjects through self-report using the Korean Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Scale (K-AADHDS), Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), Korean Wender Utah Rating Scale (K-WURS), and the Brief Encounter Psychosocial Instrument (BEPSI-K). Student t-tests, Pearson Correlation, Logistic regression, and Path analysis were performed. Results : The scores related to adult ADHD symptoms on the K-AADHDS and K-WURS were correlated with stress scores on the BEPSI-K (r=0.529, p<0.001 and r=0.484, p<0.001) and with depressive symptoms on the CES-D (r=0.686, p<0.001 and r=0.628, p<0.001). Scores related to adult ADHD on the K-AADHDS were the most significant risk factors for stress (O.R=1.198, 95% CI=1.104-1.299), and depressive symptoms (O.R=1.306, p95% CI=1.112-1.534). Path analysis on depressive symptoms showed that adult ADHD symptoms affected stress and depressive symptoms. Conclusion : The results suggest that it may be important to consider the evaluation and treatment of adult ADHD in soldiers. Prospective studies with larger numbers of subjects are warranted to further explore the relevance of the present results.

Health Promotion Behaviors and Related Psychosocial variables among High School Students in Seoul (서울시 고등학생들의 건강증진행위 실천에 관한 연구)

  • Although much has been written about the health status of adolescents, little is known about adolescents perception of their own health. family support and risk behaviors. The purpose of this study is to describe the perceived health status. family support and risk behaviors in urban high school students in Korea. and to examine the relationships between those variables. Design for the study is descriptive-correlational. The sample consisted of 600 10th-grade students who were randomly selected from 12 urban high schools located in Seoul. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, perceived health status, family support, and health risk behaviors such as tobacco use, alcohol use. eating habits, exercise, stress and coping skills. Preliminary findings of the study were as follows. In terms of perceived health status. 54.2% of the students reported that they are healthy. Students with higher socioeconomic status perceived themselves healthier than the students with lower socioeconomic status (p<.05). Overall. frequently reported health concerns were eating habits (17.2%), depression (4.8%), tobacco use(0.8%), and alcohol use (0.7%). The mean score of family support of the students was 7.67 (SD=2.43) within the range of 1-12. Gender was significantly associated with a higher level of family support among girls than boys. Data will be further analyzed in detail. The results will suggest that health promotion program should consider involving adolescents in planning. both (1) to ensure congruence of the plan of care with adolescentsconcerns and (2) to clarify the interpretation and meaning of their health risk behaviors.

The Convergence Study of Predictors of Food Addition among Nursing Students (간호대학생의 음식중독 예측요인의 융합적 연구)

  • This purpose of this study was to identify predictors and rate of food addiction among nursing students by using YFAS (Yale Food Addiction Scale) which is proven to be reliable and valid as an instrument for evaluating food addiction. In this study, data collection was from Nov. 19, 2015 to Nov. 25, 2015 in K and C university located in Changwon. We enrolled 145 nursing students. Our findings showed that the food addiction in nursing students is likely to occur when they are depressed 6.03 times more than when they are not depressed. Therefore, to maintain and enhance the physical and mental health of nursing students who are preliminary nurses, their awareness of food addiction should be promoted and it also seems to be necessary to develop food addiction prevention programs including depression, which turned out to be the predictor of food addiction as well as foods.

Effects of Psychodrama Group Counselling on Physical and Mental Health of Nursing Students (심리극 집단상담이 간호학생의 신체$\cdot$정신건강에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of psychodrama group counselling, and to determine its applicability as a nursing intervention for the promotion of mental health of clients in their developmental stages. Methodological triangulation was used for research design. For quantitative study, quasi experimental study design with nonequivalent control group was used to test the effects of psychodrama group counselling. For each experimental and control group convenient samples of 15 nursing students were selected, and observed from May to Nov. 2000. For experimental group, the treatment was given for 2 hours each week, totaling 20 hours. The questionnaire consisted of 24 items of physical symptoms from CMI. 40 items of Spielberger Anxiety Scale, and 21 items of Beck Depression Scale. Reflective journal was written by the experimental group. The data were analyzed using chi-square and Mann-Whitney U test. For the qualitative study, the contents of the reflective journal were analyzed into categories and classifications. The results of the study were as follows; 1. There was a significant difference on physical health status between the experimental and the control group 2. There was a significant difference between two groups on the mean scores of mental health before and after psychodrama group counselling. 3. The qualitative analysis of reflective journal resulted in 4 categories and 13 classifications, which was reflected by the experience of the psychodrama group counselling. The four categories were self introspection, psychological support, improvement of interpersonal relationship and self development. The thirteen classifications are self-discovery, discovering others, emotional catharsis, positive thinking, formation of consensus, comforting, being free, being comfortable, understanding, maturing personal relationship, acquiring self-confidence, new challenges, and planning for the future. Based on the study findings, the psychodrama group counselling had promoted not only physical but also mental health of nursing students. The characteristics identified by the study suggested the applicability of psychodrama group counselling as an effective measure of nursing intervention for clients.

Gender differences in factors influencing the school adjustment by BMI (중학생의 BMI 정도에 따른 학교적응 영향요인)

  • This study was to investigate factors influencing the school adjustment according to gender and body mass index (BMI) of middle school students who participated in the 2nd-wave Korea Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS). This study used a crosssectional design with secondary analysis with KCYPS. The variables were parental interest, behavioral problem, aggression, attention problem, somatic symptom, social withdrawal, depression, and academic achievement. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regressions. School adjustment was significantly associated with academic achievement high, explaining 11.3~19.1% of the variance in boys. School adjustment was significantly associated with attention problem, explaining 14.9~42.4% of the variance in girls. Factors influencing school adjustment were significantly different according to gender and BMI. To improve the school adjustment, it is necessary to develop gender-specific school adjustment promotion programs according to BMI.

Association between self-rated health, health promotion behaviors, and mental health factors among university students: Focusing on the health survey results in a university (대학생의 주관적 건강인지수준과 건강증진행동, 정신건강수준 간의 관련성: 일개 대학의 건강조사를 중심으로)

  • Background & Objectives: Self-rated health has been widely used to evaluate health status and accepted as a subjective measurement of quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the associations between self-rated health, health promotion behaviors, and mental health factors and suggest the approaches to improve health status among university students. Methods: Two thousand six hundred seventy-seven students who had stayed at dormitories on campus participated in the DU health survey by self-reported questionnaire from April 10 to 14, 2017. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals of association of self-rated health with health-related factors among male and female students. Results: 38.6% of the respondents reported good self-rated health. Male and first-year students were more likely to report good self-rated health than female and third-year students. There were significant differences in sex, grade, health problems, BMI, sleeping hours, eating breakfast, consumption of fruits and vegetables, physical activity (regular walking, strength exercise, moderate exercise, vigorous exercise), perceived stress, depression, and suicide thought (p<0.05). Conclusion: Although health promotion programs for university students are essential to support their adaptation to campus life and academic achievement, evidence-based health programs to encourage their participation are still insufficient. Therefore, it should establish a campus-based health policy and develop health promotion programs to increase self-rated health levels and prevent mental health problems for university students.
