Design of Client/Server System for Meteorological Map Service Using Mobile Phone Sensor

  • On the limited urban area meteorological data are hard to be collected because of the cost problem. The facilities collecting the data require high installment cost. Recently, the sensor network technique comes to the fore as a solution. Furthermore a mobile phone also becomes to be recognized as a sensor. This paper studies an application to service the meteorological map using mobile phone sensor. A design results for system implementation are introduced in this paper.

  • Square Kilometer Array(SKA)는 1평방킬로 미터에 달하는 넓은 집광 면적 (very large collecting area), 넓은 시야(very large field of view), 광대역 주파수(very wide frequency range), 긴 기선(very large baseline)을 갖추고, 전파천문학의 연구를 획기적으로 향상시킬 전파망원경으로 기획되고 있는 초대형 국제협력 사업이다. 본 발표에서는 SKA를 위해 제안된 key science를 개관한 후, SKA 참여를 목표로 국내에서 수행되고 있는 science 연구를 요약한다.

  • Robot collects surrounding information to recognize tile unknown environment by using various sensors such as visual, infrared ray and ultra sonic sensors. Although visual sensor is the most popular one, it has some difficulties in collecting data in dark or too bright environment due to sensitivity of the light. It also requests significant amount of calculation on collecting data from certain images with marked, straight and curved ones. As an alternative, ultra sonic sensor can simply overcome this visual sensing system's flaw and easily be used. It is easier than visual system, especially in case of collecting data on object and distance in dark environment. Ultra sonic sensor can replace the expensive visual sensing system not only in avoiding obstacles but also in reaching to the target area smoothly. The purpose of this paper is to develop the algorithm to optimize the environmental recognition, path planning and free-ranging by minimizing errors caused by inaccurate information and by considering characteristics of the ultra sonic rays such as refraction and diffusion. This paper also realizes the system that can recognize the environment and make the appropriate path planning by applying the algorithm on this moving robot.

The Comparative Study on Performance of PTC and Flat-plate Solar Collector (PTC와 평판형 태양열집열기의 성능평가 비교 연구)

  • Solar collectors to be applied are mainly flat-plate or vacuum tube collector which is used for hot water supply of house because of low heat value and low temperature. There are a necessity to expand applicable scope of solar collector into the industrial process heat source and air conditioner for coping with renewable energy policy of government and industrial trend. This study is to analysis the performance of PTC solar collector of concentrating type and flat-plate of non-concentrating. For this, temperature difference and heating value as insolation of air outside is measured from these two collectors mounted on 2-axial solar tracking system. It is investigated that temperature profile obtained from PTC solar collector is uniform and collecting heat per unit area is 6.8kcal/$m^2$ min which is about 3 times with compare to flat-plate collector of 2kcal/$m^2$min. Also the amount of heat to be produced from PTC solar collector is 3 Mcal/$m^2$ which is about 2 times with compare to flat-plate collector of 1.5Mcal/$m^2$ as a result of operating these two collectors during one month. Therefore, it is obtained that heat collecting performance of PTC solar collector is superior to flat-plate.

  • Since Korea is highly dependent on energy imports, it has been making efforts to save energy resources by enacting laws to promote resource saving and recycling. Recently, as a part of recycling of empty bottles, a bottle unattended collecting machine has been installed in the big shopping mall in the metropolitan area. However, there is no commercialization of the unattended collecting machine in Korea and the smart device application for providing information on empty bottle recycling is not yet provided. In this paper, we have designed and constructed a bottle recycling information management system to promote resource recycling. The manager has built a homepage that can manage the information of the empty bottle and the a bottle unattended collecting machine. Also, many people with smart devices can easily access bottle recycling information by using camera and barcode search and label search.

Study on Phylogenetic Relationship Between Wild Japanese Quails in the Weishan Lake Area and Domestic Quails

  • This paper is based on the 36 wild Japanese quails which migrated to and settled in the Weishan Lake area. The gene frequency of 10 loci encoding the enzymes in viscera and muscle was detected. After collecting the same data about 20 quail colonies in China and other countries, it clusters the 21 quail populations by fuzzy cluster analysis. The study indicates that the wild Japanese quail in the Weishan Lake area is closer to domestic quail for phylogenetic system than wild Japanese quails in Japanese Islands. The paper supports the thesis that the quail domestication area should be further studied.

A Case Study on Occurrence of Landslide by Heavy Rainfall in Hongcheon Area in 2006 (2006년 집중호우에 의한 홍천지역의 산사태 발생 사례 연구)

  • This paper is a result of investigating causes and main characteristics of landslides, occurred at Hongcheon area in Gangwondo during July in 2006, by collecting relevant data and visiting site. The main cause of landslides in this area has been found to be saturation of the ground wetted by a series of precipitations during 10~13 July and the heavy rainfall during 15 July. The pattern of the landslides could be classified as translational failure, occurred at the boundary between the relatively thin weathered residual soil and the mother rock. By analyzing a number of failed slopes based on site visit and reviewing collected data, typical widths of failed slopes are in the range of 10~20m (minimum: 5m, maximum: 70m). Lengths of landslide area are in the wide range of 10~450m. Most of area are less than 20m in width and 100m in length so that their shapes are long and narrow, frequently observed in Korea, and their areas are relatively small size of around $1000m^2$. The inclinations of the failed slopes are in the range of $10{\sim}60^{\circ}$ while the most probable slope angle is about $20{\sim}25^{\circ}$.

  • The new design concept for the middle school is developed as the seventh curriculum is published. However, the credible data for a plan study and spatial organization, and the type of rooms, and using area are hardly found. On this background, the purpose of this study is to provide fundamental resources for the design of middle schools and to recognize national status of plan organizations of middle schools with analizing the space and the type of rooms of collecting 150 schools' architectural plan drafted by city, province education office for 4 years(from 1997 to 2000) As a result, we know that although the class size of school is same, the area for school buildings is very diverse. Then, in order to increasing the area and to develop school buildings' quility, the meaning of standard level should be changed urgently minimum size to optimun size.

A Multiobjective Model for Locating Drop-off Boxes for Collecting Used Products

  • This paper proposes a multiobjective model describing the trade-offs involved in selecting the locations of drop-off boxes for collecting used products and transporting these products to designated locations. We assume the following reverse flow of used products. Owners of used products (cellular phones, digital cameras, ink cartridges, etc.) take them to the nearest drop-off box when the distance is reasonably short. We also assume that owners living closer to drop-off boxes dispose of more used products than do owners living farther from drop-off boxes. Different types of used products are collected, with each type requiring its own drop-off box. A transportation destination for each product is specified. Three objectives are considered: maximizing the volume of used products collected at drop-off boxes; minimizing the cost of transporting collected products to designated locations; and minimizing the cost of allocating space for drop-off boxes. We formulate the above model as a multiobjective integer programming problem and generate the corresponding set of Pareto optimal solutions. We apply the model to an area using population data for Chofu City, Tokyo, Japan, and analyze the trade-offs between the objectives.

A Study on the Application of Solar Energy System in Apartment Complex (공동주택단지에서의 태양에너지 시스템 적용에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, through case studies, solar energy systems were coordinated with architectural plan elements and the others in apartment complex, and the energy performance was evaluated quantitatively through computer simulation PVSYST and RETScreen. As a results, in plan process of the application of solar energy systems in apartment complex, solar energy system should be considered as not only energy reducing technical element but also part of architectural plan element. And it must be considered with architectural plan elements, composition methods, energy storage methods, technical elements from the early basic plan stage. Photovoltaic system was installed on the wall facing the south and rooftop. The energy ratio of electric load was shown to be 5.5%. The result showed 7.2% when adding it to shading device additionally, and 6.4% in case of putting extra translucent module on windows. Active solar collecting system was applied on roof with the angle of 45. Maximum number of solar collector was 10 in a row, and the total solar collecting area was $915.00m^2$. The energy ratio of domestic water heating load by active solar hot water system is shown to be 11.4%.
