  • Dr. Corley had various experiences as an outstanding structural engineer. His experience as the chief investigator for the collapse of World Trade Center and Oklahoma city building was so much useful to the lecture. His presentation had covered 3 different collapsed buildings like Oklahoma city, Pentagon and World Trade Center. He had shown to the audiences 2 videos and 76 slides by power point. The learned lessons from his presentation were: 1. The appropriate Building Code is very important. 2. The sound details are very important for the structure to resist the extreme outer force. 3. The continuous diagnosis and maintenance of the structure is important. 4. The reasonable attitude of the government against the accident is important. 5. The professional engineer must take a main role as a guard for the safety of the people.

  • This paper presents shows various process of dynamic voltage collapses which were initiated by power system disturbances, and the impacts of dynamic voltage controllers. According to the analysis results, the composition of induction motors with short time constant strongly affect the voltage collapse. To escape the voltage collapse, adding fast acting reactive compensation device, such as SVC, at high reactive loss sensitivity(${\partia}Qloss/{\partia}PL$) point could be one of a good countermeasure.

  • The priority of Crashworthiness concept for rolling stock is progressively increasing to reduce the damage of drivers and passengers as well as the car. For the first step of this research, the analysis of the crash elements have been performed. Also the longitudinal collapse force and mode is important point for whole carbody structure to guarantee the lower force at end part rather than the main passenger area. The carbody quasi-static collapse analysis and real test has been performed in the research. The crash elements FEA and test has been performed as well. After the initial Analysis and test, the correlation analysis between the FEA and test has been performed by FEA tunning. All this result will be used for real crashworthiness design for carbody structure.

Study of the effect of varying shapes of holes in energy absorption characteristics on aluminium circular windowed tubes under quasi-static loading

  • In this paper, energy absorption characteristics of circular windowed tubes with different section shapes (circular, ellipse, square, hexagon, polygon and pentagon) are investigated numerically and experimentally. The tube possesses the same material, thickness, height, volume and average cross sectional area which are subjected under axial and oblique quasi-static loading conditions. Numerical model was constructed with FE code ABAQUS/Explicit, the obtained outcome of simulation is in good matching with the experimental data. The energy absorbed, specific energy absorption, crash force efficiency, peak and mean loads along with the collapse modes with their initiation point of simple and windowed tubes were evaluated. The technique for order of preference by similarity ideal solution (TOPSIS) approach was employed for assessing their overall crushing performances. The obtained results confirm that efficacy of crash force indicators have improved by introducing windows and tubes with pentagonal and circular windows achieves the maximum ranking about 0.528 and 0.517, it clearly reveals the above are best window shapes.

이암 절토 사면의 붕괴 요인 분석 및 대책방안 제시 (Analysis of collapse course of mudstone cut slope and suggest countermeasure)

  • 본 연구는 ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ 고속국도 공사 중 발생된 이암 절토 사면의 붕괴 요인 분석 및 대책방안을 제시하였다. 기반암인 이암에 대해 실내시험을 수행하고, 국제 기준에 의거해 공학적인 특성을 규명하였다. 그리고 설계 시 수행되었던 사면안정해석을 재검토 하였다. 또한, Swelling-Slaking 현상으로 인해 기반암인 이암의 강도열화특성을 고려한 안정해석을 추가적으로 수행하였다. 기반암인 이암에 대해 Swelling-Slaking Test 결과, 풍화내구성은 낮음-보통으로 나타났으며, 팽창변형률은 매우 낮음으로 나타났다. 설계 안정해석 검토 결과, 이암의 공학적 특성을 고려하지 않고, 한계평형해석을 이용해 실제와 상이한 결과가 나타났다. 강도열화특성을 고려한 추가안정해석 결과, 사면의 붕괴지점과 안정해석의 최대전단변형률 발생지점이 동일하게 나타났으며, 건기시 우기시 모두 기준 안전율을 만족하지 못하였다. 붕괴 사면의 대책방안으로는 사면경사완화공법이 가장 적절하였다. 유한요소해석을 통해 완화 경사를 산정하였다. 완화 경사의 현장 적용성을 위해 시추공영상촬영과 비교한 결과, 미고결된 이암의 대부분이 제거되는 것으로 나타나 미고결된 이암으로 인한 추가적인 붕괴 위험성은 현격히 저하되는 것으로 나타났다.

  • This paper presents improved direct method for calculating the closest saddle node bifurcation (CSNB) point, which is also applicable to the selection of appropriate load shedding, reactive power compensation point detection. The proposed method reduced dimension of nonlinear equation compared with that of Dobson's direct method. The improved direct method, utilizing Newton Iterative method converges very quickly. But it diverges if the initial guess is not very close to CSNB. So the direct method is performed with the initial values obtained by carrying out the iterative method twice, which is considered most efficient at this time. Since sparsity techniques can be employed, this method is a good choice to a large scale system on-line application. Proposed method has been tested for 5-bus, New England 30-bus system.

이동 CRANE의 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on Control of Mobile Cranes)

  • The specifications needed for the mobile cranes are summarized as the following : 1) there may be not occured the oscillation of the cargo at unloading point. 2)the required time from departure point to destination point may be as short as possible. 3) there may be not a collapse of cargo caused by the oscillation in the course that the crago is mobilling. In this paper, the linear fractional transformation method is adopted as a method in order to improve the above mentioned problems. A design method of servo system is developed by modifying Davison's method for the case that the homogeneous differential equations of reference input and disturbance are different types. The real time control of a mobile crane system is implemented by 16bits microcomputer with A/D and D/A converters to illustrate the application of the adopted method. The experimental results for the three types of the design methods; linear fractional transformation method, servo system design method and optimal control method are shown for the comparison.

수정N-R법과 연속음형법을 이용한 임계부하점 및 Nose Curve 산정기법 연구 (A Study on the Calculation Scheme of Extreme Loading Point and Nose Curves using Modified N-R and Continuation Method)

  • Several voltage instability/collapse problems that have occurred in the electric utility industry worldwide have gained the attention of engineers and researchers of electric power systems. This paper proposes an effective calculation scheme of the extreme loading point and nose curves(P-V curves) using modified Newton-Raphson(N-R) load flow method and the Continuation Method. This method provides detail and visual information of the power system voltage profile and operating margin ro operators and planners. In this paper, a modified load flow claculation method for ill-conditioned power systems is introduced for the purpose of seeking more precise load flow solutions and nose curves, and the Continuation Method is also used as a part of the solution algorithm for the calculation of extreme loading point and nose curves. The conventional polar coordinate based N-R load flow program is modified to avoid numerical difficulties caused by the singularity of the Jacobian matrix occuring in the vicinity of extreme loading point of heavily loaded systems. Application results of the proposed method to Klos-Kerner 11-bus system and modified IEE-30-bus system are presented to assure the usefulness of the approach.

창녕 이방면 하천범람 퇴적물 입도분포 특성 및 그 의미 (Characteristics of Grain Size Distribution of River Flooding Sediments in Ibang-myeon, Changnyeong and their Meaning)

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of the grain size distribution of the sediments obtained from the flooding in Ibang-myeon, Changnyeong-gun, which was caused by the collapse of a embarkment on the Nakdong River on August 9, 2020. As a results, it was found that the mean grain size decreases and the sorting becomes poorer as the distance from the embarkment collapse point increases. This is attributed to the fact that the transport energy of the river decreases when flooding occurs, ensuring that coarse-grained sediments are deposited first. Further, as the transport energy further reduces and becomes dispersed, the sorting for the fine-grained sediments becomes poor. Considering the characteristics of spatial distribution, sediments along the farm road showed the properties of floodplain deposits that transport to natural levee and back swamp due to river flooding. On the other hand, sediments along the irrigation ditch exhibited the properties of the deposits that are carried by the flow backward of ditch from the river after the collapse of the embarkment. The results of this study are significant because characteristics of flood sediments were elucidated for major rivers where flooding rarely occurs due to the recently built artificial structures. In addition, by applying the grain size distribution characteristics of present river flood sediments, it will be able to contribute to clarifying the sedimentary environments of the paleo river flood deposits.

  • 과거 건설 구조물은 사용 하중을 견딜만한 성능과 사용성, 부식에 대한 저항성 정도만이 요구되었다. 그러나 9.11 사건 이후 이러한 관점은 바뀌어, 폭발에 의한 충격 하중 및 그와 동시에 발생할 수있는 화재로 인한 열에 견딜 수 있는 구조물의 저항 성능이 기본적인 요구 조건으로써 중요시되고있다. 전 세계가 연일 테러의 위협 아래 놓여있는 현 시점에서 구조물의 내폭 성능은 매우 중요한 부분이라 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 기존의 건설 재료로써 폭넓게 사용되고 있는 시멘트 복합체 혹은 콘크리트에인장 강도 및 연성이 뛰어난 FRP composite을 결합시켜 내폭 성능이 우수하고 기존 구조물 및 신설구조물에 모두 시공이 가능한 최적화된 분절 복합체(Segmented Composite) 및 층 구조(Layered Structure)를 개발하고, 그 성능을 평가하고자 한다. 이러한 내폭 성능의 향상을 통해, 열과 충격 하중, 동하중 및 high strain에 의한 구조물의 붕괴를 줄이고 붕괴 시점을 보다 늦출 수 있다면, 이로인해 발생되는 인명 피해 및 경제적 손실을 최소화시킬 수 있을 것이다.
