Local optimization of thruster configuration based on a synthesized positioning capability criterion

  • DPCap analysis can assist in determining the maximum environmental forces the DP system can counteract for a given heading. DPCap analysis results are highly affected by the thrust forces provided by the thrust system which consists of several kinds of thrusters. The thrust forces and moment are determined by the maximum thrust of the thrusters as well as the thruster configuration. In this paper, a novel local optimization of thruster configuration based on a synthesized positioning capability criterion is proposed. The combination of the discrete locations of the thrusters forms the thruster configuration and is the input, and the synthesized positioning capability is the output. The quantified synthesized positioning capability of the corresponding thruster configuration can be generated as the output. The optimal thruster configuration is the one which makes the vessel has the best positioning capability. A software program was developed based on the present study. A local optimization of thruster configuration for a supply vessel was performed to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the program. Even though the program cannot find the global optimal thruster configuration, its high efficiency makes it essentially practical in an engineering point. It may be used as a marine research tool and give guidance to the designer of the thrust system.

  • Recently, automated solutions using collaborative robots have been emerging in various industries. Their primary functions include Pick & Place, Peg in the Hole, fastening and assembly, welding, and more, which are being utilized and researched in various fields. The application of these robots varies depending on the characteristics of the grippers attached to the end of the collaborative robots. To grasp a variety of objects, a gripper with a high degree of freedom is required. In this paper, we propose a service automation system using a multi-degree-of-freedom gripper, collaborative robots, and vision sensors. Assuming various products are placed at a checkout counter, we use three cameras to recognize the objects, estimate their pose, and create grasping points for grasping. The grasping points are grasped by the multi-degree-of-freedom gripper, and experiments are conducted to recognize barcodes, a key task in service automation. To recognize objects, we used a CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) based algorithm and point cloud to estimate the object's 6D pose. Using the recognized object's 6d pose information, we create grasping points for the multi-degree-of-freedom gripper and perform re-grasping in a direction that facilitates barcode scanning. The experiment was conducted with four selected objects, progressing through identification, 6D pose estimation, and grasping, recording the success and failure of barcode recognition to prove the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • Today enterprises are bringing forward the strong needs for the Global Work Space that is able to realize the collaboration of the virtual enterprise in order to achieve the rapid entrance to market, the quality improvement as well as the cost reduction of their new products. Especially, they are building the efficient Product Management Infrastructure in parallel with the real-time knowledge management for the information generated in the course of a product lifecycle and the Process Innovation making the Concurrent Engineering possible. Building a system in the web environment cannot be the entire effort to realize the Global Work Space within an enterprise that is an essential factor for the reduction of a product development period which in turn contributes to Time to Market. Various work models and processes are found in enterprises and many different application programs are developed and utilized to support these. This study proposes a scheme for the optimized Collaborative Workflow System Architecture that is able to take in and apply various application programs accompanied by the product development work process. Through this, we are to examine various limits and problems existing in the real-time collaborative system between enterprises and to reform these.

Development of Fashion Design Recommender System using Textile based Collaborative Filtering Personalization Technique (Textile 기반의 협력적 필터링 개인화 기술을 이용한 패션 디자인 추천 시스템 개발)

  • It is important for the strategy of product sales to investigate the consumer's sensitivity and preference degree in the environment that the process of material development has been changed focusing on the consumer renter. In the present study, we propose the Fashion Design Recommender System (FDRS) of textile design applying collaborative filtering personalization technique as one of methods in the material development centered on consumer's sensibility and preferences. In collaborative filtering personalization technique based on textile, Pearson Correlation Coefficient is used to calculate similarity weights between users. We build the database founded on the sensibility adjective to develop textile designs by extracting the representative sensibility adjective from users' sensibility and preferences about textile designs. FDRS recommends textile designs to a consumer who has a similar propensity about textile. Ultimately, this paper sugeests empirical applications to verify the adequacy and the validity on this system with the development of Fashion Design Recommender System (FDRS)

  • There are many recommendation systems offer an effort to get better preciseness the information to the users. In order to further improve more accuracy, the social network analysis method which is used to analyze data to community detection in social networks was introduced in the recommendation system and the result shows this method is improving more accuracy. In this paper, we propose a movie recommendation system using social network analysis and normalized discounted cumulative gain with the best accuracy. To estimate the performance, the collaborative filtering using the k nearest neighbor method, the social network analysis with collaborative filtering method and the proposed method are used to evaluate the MovieLens data. The performance outputs show that the proposed method get better the accuracy of the movie recommendation system than any other methods used in this experiment.

  • Under the concept of global economy, the enterprises are assigning design and production environments around the world in different areas. A serious problem of information exchange emerges as companies use traditional hardware and very distinct softwares appropriate to their field of expertise. To overcome the decreased productivity due to the interruption of information, the concept of simultaneous engineering and concurrent design becomes very significant. In this article, an agent-based ship design system is developed in order to support a cooperation in distributed ship design environments. Above all, the conflicts that occur in the middle of knowledge sharing in the system must be resolved. An approach to do this is the case-based conflict resolution strategy formulated to resolve current conflict on the basis of previous resolved similar cases in agent-based collaborative design system environments. To do this conflict cases that occur in initial ship design stage are extracted. On the basis of the extracted cases, case-base is constructed. In addition conflict resolution handler located in the facilitator is developed to treat conflict problems effectively by reasoning of the case-base and thus presenting an appropriate solution. The validation of developed case-based conflict resolution strategy is evaluated by applying to collaborative design process in initial ship design stage, especially the machinery outfitting design, the preliminary design, the hullform design, and the structural design. Through the help of the cooperation of the design agents, the facilitator, the conflict resolution handler, and the case-based system, a designer can be supported effectively in his/her decision-making based on the previous cases resolved similarly.

  • Collaborative optimization (CO) is a multi-level decomposed methodology for a large-scale multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO). CO is known to have computational and organizational advantages. Its decomposed architecture removes a necessity of direct communication among disciplines, guaranteeing their autonomy. However, CO has several problems at convergence characteristics and computation time. In this study, such features are discussed and some suggestions are made to improve the performance of CO. Only for the system level optimization, genetic algorithm is used and gradient-based method is used for subspace optimizers. Moreover, response surface models are replaced as analyses in subspaces. In this manner, CO is applied to aero-structural design problems of the aircraft wing and its results are compared with the multidisciplinary feasible (MDF) method and the original CO. Through these results, it is verified that the suggested approach improves convergence characteristics and offers a proper solution.

  • 웹툰의 양은 방대하여 사용자가 원하는 웹툰을 찾는데 어려움이 있기 때문에 체계적인 추천 시스템이 필요하다. 하지만 기존의 추천 시스템은 조회수가 많은 인기 웹툰을 추천하는 방식과 사용자와 비슷한 연령대, 성별의 사용자들이 조회한 콘텐츠를 추천해주는 인구 통계학적 추천(demographic filtering)방식, 그리고 비슷한 사용자를 분석하여 추천해주는 협업적 추천(collaborative filtering)방식에 국한되어 있어, 개인의 성향을 반영하여 추천하고 있다고 보기 어렵다. 따라서 사용자 개인의 성향을 분석하는 방식에 대한 시도가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위해서 개인의 성향을 분석하는 지표로 MBTI(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) 유형을 이용하고, 같은 MBTI 유형의 사용자간의 협업적 필터링 추천 방식을 제안하였다. 또, 협업적 필터링 방식에서 발생하는 콜드 스타트 문제와 초기 평가자 문제를 해결하는 방안을 제시하였다.

Recommender System based on Product Taxonomy and User's Tendency (상품구조 및 사용자 경향성에 기반한 추천 시스템)

  • In this study, a novel and flexible recommender system was developed, based on product taxonomy and usage patterns of users. The proposed system consists of the following four steps : (i) estimation of the product-preference matrix, (ii) construction of the product-preference matrix, (iii) estimation of the popularity and similarity levels for sought-after products, and (iv) recommendation of a products for the user. The product-preference matrix for each user is estimated through a linear combination of clicks, basket placements, and purchase statuses. Then the preference matrix of a particular genre is constructed by computing the ratios of the number of clicks, basket placements, and purchases of a product with respect to the total. The popularity and similarity levels of a user's clicked product are estimated with an entropy index. Based on this information, collaborative and content-based filtering is used to recommend a product to the user. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed approach, an empirical study was conducted by constructing an experimental e-commerce site. Our results clearly showed that the proposed hybrid method is superior to conventional methods.

e-Engineering Framework to Support Collaborative Design of Automotive Suspension Systems (협업설계를 위한 엔지니어링 프레임워크 개발에 관한 연구 -자동차 서스펜션 모듈에의 적용-)

  • This paper describes an e-Engineering framework to support collaborative design of automotive suspension systems developed at KIMM(Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials). The e-Engineering framework is proposed and developed on the base of the multi-layered software agents including engineering task agent which is generated from the domain knowledge of experts. The developed framework is aim to widely spread application to the small and medium enterprises by adopting open source technologies such as JADE (Java Agent Development Framework) and by using the independent characteristics related with applicant H/W and 81W system. This framework can provide an integrated design environment to support distributed personnel, design activities and engineering resources during product development process. For the validation of the system's applicability and efficiency, the several practical design processes for automotive suspension systems of RR/FR lower arms and RR cross member are applied and discussed.
