Direction of Emergency Rescue Education Based on the Experience of New 119 Paramedics for National Health Promotion (국민건강증진을 위한 응급구조학 교육의 나아갈 방향 -신임 119구급대원의 출동경험을 바탕으로-)

  • The purpose of the study is to investigate the application and utility of emergency rescue education and derive limitations, improvements and development directions of university education based on the field experience of 119 emergency medical technician(EMT)s. The research subjects were six new 119 emergency medical technician(EMT)s within three years of starting their first-aid service in the field. After conducting in-depth narrative interviews, the analysis was performed using Colaizzi method. The 82 formulated meanings were derived from significant statements. From formulated meanings, 23 themes, 4 theme clusters, 2 categories were identified. The four theme clusters were 'The effectiveness of university education', 'The limitations of university education', 'The direction of improvement in educational methodology' and 'The direction of improvement in educational contents. University education has been helpful overall, but limitations are observed at the same time, suggesting that it should be developed through the improvement of educational methodologies (i.e. problem-based learning, field case review, education through role-playing, simulation education, strengthening skill ect.) and educational content (i.e. training tailored to the field, education focused on trauma or cardiac arrest, expansion of triage education in disaster management, reinforcement of education on-site safety, education on special patients, diverse guidance and faculty for different perspectives).

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the meaning of menopausal age experienced by middle-aged men and to understand the nature of menopause perceive. Data were collected using the qualitative research method and Colaizzi's method was used to analyze. The results of the study showed that six categories and 19 themes and 44 themes of Physical changes, Psychological changes, Changes of work performance, Positive changes, Climacteric perception, Overcoming menopause The results of this study are expected to use basic data for the development and application of nursing intervention program from a future perspective.

A Study on the Parenting Experience as Mothers of Children with Asperger's Disorder (아스퍼거장애 아동 어머니의 양육경험에 관한 연구)

  • This study aimed to explore the essence and phenomena that the mothers of children with Asperger's disorder subjectively perceive. Interviews were conducted 2~3 times on the mothers of children diagnosed as Asperger's disorder during six months from August 2012 through February 2013. As a result of analysis with phenomenological method of Colaizzi, the essence of parenting experience of mothers of children with Asperger's disorder was interpreted as 'walking through a cave in shining dim light by hand in hand with a child who was from another star' and were drawn into 18 categories from 6 themes. The six themes turned out to be 'meeting with a unique child from another star', 'jumping into the world with a child seemingly not different but still different', 'finding answers and revising plans', 'passing through a tunnel with no end in sight', 'small consolation in a hard journey', and 'walking together by accepting limitations.' Based on these results, practical and political interventions in parenting children with Asperger's disorder were suggested.

A Study on the Experience of Settlement of Elderly North Korean Women Defectors in South Korea (북한이탈여성노인의 남한사회 정착경험에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to observe the settlement experience among elderly North Korean women defectors who have been living in South Korea, and to understand their experience more fully. In this study, we adopted Colaizzi's phenomenological research method. The research participants consisted of six elderly North Korean women defectors in the age group of 65 to 70 who have settled in South Korea over three years. We utilized the purposed sampling and an in-depth interview for data collection. Data analysis was based on Colaizzi's six specific steps. As a result, eight theme clusters and sixteen themes were deduced from this research. The eight theme clusters are , , , , , , , . Based on these results, we discussed the meaning of elderly North Korean women's settlement experience in South Korea from a socio-cultural aspect and provided social welfare implications and future research suggestions.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the experience of patients with uterine benign neoplasms in response to high-intensity focused ultrasound treatment. The study participants were patients who received high-intensity focused ultrasound treatment after diagnosis of benign uterine neoplasms and were contacted through purposive techniques. Five patients agreed to participate in this study. Data were collected from February, 2018 to May, 2018 at Women's hospital in D city. The interview data were analyzed by the phenomenological analysis method developed by Colaizzi using open-ended questions during in-depth interviews. Three categories emerged from the analysis using Colaizzi's method: 1) Discomfort. 2) Ambivalence. 3) Will and need. These study results contribute to a deeper understanding of the experience of patients with uterine benign neoplasms in response to high-intensity focused ultrasound treatment. Therefore, it should be developed as part of an effective nursing education program to provide evidence-based guidelines and nursing interventions that alleviate health problems in patients receiving high-intensity focused ultrasound treatment and proper nursing understanding of the development of new treatment methods for woman's health.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the experience and meaning of discrimination among Korean-Chinese part-time job international students. To this end, after in-depth interviews with nine Korean-Chinese part-time job international students from May to June 2022, the data were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological research method. The findings were as follows: New challenges for living expenses and efficient adaptation, this road full of thorns, efforts to adapt beyond discrimination, growth and relationships through part-time jobs turned out to be opportunities. This experience became a process for Korean-Chinese part-time international students to grow further as well as solve economic problems. However, they are subject to multiple discrimination due to their dual status as international students and ethnic Korean-Chinese. Their Korean identity gives a more directed differential experience in the process of working part-time. But in the process, they are still overcoming difficulties. Korean-Chinese international students are growing up by accepting discrimination experiences and adapting to their international life. As a result of the above research, we need education and help to guarantee working human rights for Korean-Chinese part-time students with the development of a multicultural society in the future.

A Study on Counselor's Professional Development Experiences of Undergraduate Students Through Reflective Journal Writing (성찰일지를 통한 상담전문가 발달 경험: 융합적 교육방법의 상담실습 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore undergraduate students' professional growth experiences as a novice counselor through reflective journal writing. Study participants were six students who completed the counseling skills course. The analysis was done on their weekly reflective journals using Colaizzi's phenomenological qualitative method. As a result, 11 sub-categories and 3 categories were emerged: increasing recognition and knowledge regarding counseling, being troubled and frustrated due to one's inexperiences of counseling, trying to overcome frustration toward professional counselors. This study revealed counseling major undergraduate students' professional development experiences and can be utilized in counseling training program development in the future.

A Qualitative Study on Flipped Learning Experience in Major Subjects of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 전공교과목 플립러닝 수업에 대한 경험: 질적연구)

  • This study is a phenomenological study that aimed to understand the meaning of nursing students' experience of class using flipped learning method. The participants are 8 senior nursing students. The data collected by individual in-depth interviews and analyzed by Colaizzi's method. As a result of this study, 35 key themes and 11 clusters of themes were derived. The 11 thematic categories are classified in pre-education, in-classroom, and post-education. At the pre-education, the theme clusters are 'lack of information', 'psychological burden', 'different teaching methods', 'improvement of self-directed learning ability', and 'different learner's achievement'. At the in-class, the theme clusters are 'efficient teaching direction' and 'confidence improvement'. At the post-education stage, the theme clusters are 'positive influence on class', 'strengthening self-pay', 'not preferred', and 'lecture preference'. Therefore, a more diversified and in-depth repetitive study is suggested in order to apply the flipped learning method to the nursing major.

  • This study is a qualitative study to understand the meaning and the nature of catharsis experienced by the participants of the psychodrama group. Participants were four experts who had a long history of participating in the psychodrama group. In-depth interviews were held one by one from February to June 2018, and each interview took 1-2 hours. Data collected through in-depth interviews were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological research method. The result is four categories and eight theme clusters. Intrinsic structure is represented by 'physical purification', 'psychological stability', 'cognitive insight', 'Spontaneous expansion'.

The health care experience of the clinical nurse in a university hospital (일 대학병원 임상간호사의 건강관리 경험)

  • This study analyzed the data using the phenomenological method proposed by Colaizzi (1978) to understand the meaning and reality of the health care experience of clinical nurses in a university hospital. The data were collected from 9 participants, who were nurses in a university hospital in the city of S from Oct 4, 2015 to Oct 30, 2015. The results showed that the health care experiences of the participants may be categorized into 5 categories, 'ambivalence toward the physical health care', 'pressure over physical exercise', 'the difficulty arising out of shift work', 'stress management', and 'rediscovery of self', and may be identified with a 14 theme cluster and 42 themes.
