The current paper was conducted to unravel the influence of affect induction as a background emotion in the process of cognitive task to judge the degree of sequence in groups with or without anxiety symptoms. Four types of affect induction and two sequential task types were used as within-subject variables, and two types of college students groups classified under the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) as a between-subject variable were selected to determine reaction times involving sequential judgment among the lexical relevance information. DmDx5 was used to present a series of stimuli and elicit a response from subjects. Repeated measured ANOVA analyses revealed that reaction times and error rates were significantly larger with anxiety participants compared to the normal group regardless of affect and task types. Within-subject variable effects found that specific affect type (sorrow condition) and number-related task type showed a more rapid response compared to other affect types and magnitude-related task type, respectively. In sum, these findings confirmed the difference in tendency with reaction time and error rates that varied as a function of accompanying affect types as well as anxiety level and task types suggesting the that underlying background affect plays a major role in processing affect-cognitive association tasks.

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of motion sickness on pupil rhythm. Sixteen volunteers of both genders (8 male, 8 female, mean age $25.67{\pm}2.43$ years) experienced VR contents in both 2D and HMD versions for 15 minutes, and their pupillary rhythms were compared. The irregular pattern of the pupillary rhythms, as demonstrated by increasing mean pupil diameter (mPD) and standard deviation of the pupil diameter (sPD), revealed motion sickness after experiencing HMD condition. The pupillary response is strongly related to the cognitive load, and the motion sickness can be interpreted as a change in the cognitive load caused by the increasing volume of visual information that must be processed and the conflict or inconsistency between different sensory modalities. The method proposed in this study could be a non-contact measurement method for the monitoring of motion sickness using a web-camera rather than previous sensor-based methods.
The aim of this study was to analyze word frequency effects on eye fixation duration in Korean reading with a one-boundary diffusion model and to show how these phenomena differ between adults (20-28yrs) and adolescents (13-14yrs). We predicted that the drift rate parameter in the boundary diffusion model would reflect the information processing of the fovea during silent reading. Through an eye movement tracking experiment while controlling word properties such as the word frequency and the age of acquisition, Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 show that the information processing pertaining to words to be placed in the fovea is connected to the drift rate of the one-boundary diffusion model parameters. In Experiment 1,in the adult group, the mean difference in the fixation time in the response proportion between the presence of high-frequency condition and low-frequency condition in the adult group was higher in quantile 0.9 than it was in the 0.1 quantile, but in the adolescent group, the mean difference in the fixation time in the response proportion between the two conditions was not significantly in the 0.9 quartile. In Experiment 2, the mean difference in the fixation time in the response proportion between early-acquired condition and late-acquired condition in both groups was also higher in the quantile 0.9 than in the 0.1 quantile. The distribution of the two conditions in the both groups was positively skewed, and the difference showed the same pattern found in the results of Ratcliff(Ratcliff & McKoon, 2008). Based on the experimental results, we propose one-boundary diffusion model as a tool to explain word property effects and individual differences in reading. In particular, we suggest that the drift rate parameter in the boundary diffusion model reflects the information processing of the fovea during reading. In addition, the results show that one-boundary diffusion model can be used to predict the aforementioned phenomena in reading.

Objectives : The study was conducted to investigate the effect of intelligence ability on attention using Continuous Performance Test (CPT). Methods : 56 children with ADHD (52 boys, 4 girls) and 41 children in normal (28 boys, 13 girls) were sampled, their age range was 7 to 15. They performed IQ test and ADHD Diagnostic System (ADS) in order to examine intelligence and attention. Participants were divided into normal group and ADHD group, average IQ level children and superior IQ level children. Then ADS variables (omission error, commission error, reaction time, reaction time deviation, response sensitivity, and response criterion) were analyzed. Results : There was no significant interaction effect between group (normal, ADHD) and intelligence (average, superior). But there was significant difference between normal group and ADHD group in omission error, commission error, reaction time deviation, and response sensitivity. Also average level IQ group had significantly showed more omission, greater reaction time deviation, and lower response sensitivity than superior level IQ group. Conclusion : ADHD group has attention deficit than normal group, and CPT is available tool to detect attention problems. These findings indicate that intelligence can contaminate inattention and cognitive impulsivity thus it compensates for attention deficit. And it suggests that intelligence effect is considered in analyzing CPT in ADHD children.
The visual humor can be regarded as an original source for creative ideation. There are several types of humor. for example,'wit, satire, irony and so on. These can be motivations of developing an up-to-date idea. Wit differs from most humor in being purely intellectual, rather than relying on incongruities that come up naturally in many situations. The humor of words contains pun, hyperbole, repetition, and comparison or contrast. Especially in case of pun, it can be most important type of humor for making analytical and humorous effects visually. Pun, meaning the humor of double meaning, furnish us with much of our humor. The concept of pun is the most valuable for creating the visual humor by substituting, combining and manipulating symbols. There are essentially three distinct categories of puns : the literal pun, the suggestive pun, and the comparative pun. All types of puns belong to one of these three groups. The definitions are simple to understand and easy to apply for creating the visual humor, In order to develop a better conceptual model, (this researcher) reexamine the concept of humor, the relationship of humor to various types of message processing, and the relationship of humor to various aspects of message. This thesis. is primarily concerned with basic theories of humor such as concepts of humor, types of humor and analysis of humor. And this contains the research of humor's communications effects and theory of humor response with literature reviews. Modem theories of humor response generally fall into three major schools : Incongruity theories, Superiority theories and Arousal (Relief theories. Together these three approaches address the cognitive-perceptual, affective-evaluative and psycho-dynamic dimensions of a subject's humor response. The literature research of humor and humor response theory in communications and visual communications can help the visual application of humor concepts and usefulness of visual humor appeals. This research agreed that the humor and visual humor must be very effective at being as a means for the advertising expression, not for the purpose itself. In addition, this research is aimed at studying significations and usefulness of visual humor through semiotic approaches in the near future. Then it can be essencial research for the appropriate situational uses of humor related to media, product, and audience factors, such as nationality, age, standard of living, sexuality, and so on.
The purpose of the present research was to examine whether the parietal pathway and the temporal pathway were responsible for the phenomena of the inhibition of return and the facilitation of return respectively and at what stage of the information processing they occurred. The response time and the ERPs(event-related potentials) were examined in the two conditions(the valid condition and the invalid condition) while subjects were doing detection task, location discrimination task, color discrimination task and orientation discrimination task in separate sessions. No significant response time difference was found between the valid and the invalid conditions when subjects did the detection task as well as the location discrimination task. However, significant response time difference was found when they did the color discrimination as well as the orientation discrimination task. Futhermore, there was a significant difference of ERP difference between the two conditions in the Pz area when subjects were doing location discrimination task and significant difference was found in the T7 area when they were doing color discrimination task and marginal difference was found in T7/T8 area when they were doing orientation discrimination task just before they responded. These results imply the possibility that both the inhibition of return and the facilitation of return occur in the parietal and in the temporal pathway respectively in the late stage of information processing.
This study was to investigate the effects of restoring cognition function and neurotrophic factor in the hippocampus according to memory and learning training in rats affected by brain injury. Brain injury was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats(36 rats) through middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAo). And then experiment groups were randomly divided into three groups; Group I: Brain injury induction(n=12), Group II: the application for treadmill training after brain injury induction(n=12), Group III: the application for memory and learning training after brain injury induction(n=12). Morris water maze acquisition test and retention test were performed to test cognitive function. And the histological examination was also observed through the immunohistochemistric response of BDNF(brain-derived neurotrophic factor) in the hippocampus. For Morris water maze acquisition test, there were significant interactions among the groups with the time(p<.001). The time to find the circular platform in Group III was more shortened than in Group I, II on the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th day. For Morris water maze retention test, there were significant differences among the groups(p<.001). The time to dwell on quadrant circular platform in Group III on the 13th day was the longest compared with other groups. And as the result of observing the immunohistochemistric response of BDNF in the hippocampus CA1, the response of immunoreactive positive in Group III on the 7th day increased more than that of Group I, II. These results suggested that the memory and learning training in rats with brain injury has a more significant impact on restoring cognitive function via the changes of neurotropic factor expression and synaptic neuroplasticity.
Stroop effect(Stroop, 1935) is a reliable paradigm which has been used in various psychological research. Although classic Stroop experiment used color and color name for experimental stimuli, subsequent research reported that a color(e.g. green) and an object(e.g. grass) which displays a typical color show similar effects depending on color-object congruency(Klein, 1964). Because past research that used Stroop effect to investigate semantic representation tested association between concrete object and color, they predominantly used concrete nouns and their corresponding color names as stimuli(e.g. Dalrymple-Alford, 1968, 1972; Klein, 1964). Recently, Sherman and Clore(2009) reported that response time to white or black words is affected by moral value of words (e.g., honesty, crime) even when the words do not have specific referents. Based on this result, we tested association between thermesthesia-related adjectives(e.g., 따스한, 냉정한) and color(warm color, cold color) using Stroop task. The results showed that subjects were faster in their response to color when adjective-color was congruent than when incongruent, and there was an interaction between color and meaning of adjectives. The Stroop effect in this research is unique because, contrary to previous research that used concrete nouns, the effect was obtained even with abstract adjectives which do not have specific referents. In addition, unlike Sherman and Clore(2009) that used achromatic color, our results show that Stroop effect obtains between abstract adjectives and chromatic color.
Previous studies have reported that a plausible reference point has a greater anchoring effect than an extreme reference point. It is also known that the anchoring effect decreases when the individual's level of knowledge related to a given item is high. However, there has been no study examining the interaction of the plausibility of the reference point and the difficulty of the given question. Therefore, in this study, the effect of the reference plausibility and the difficulty of the questions on the anchoring effect were examined. The relationship between the response confidence and the anchoring effect was also examined. To do so, easy and difficult questions, plausible and extreme reference points were selected through preliminary research. The experiment was conducted following the 'standard anchoring task procedure'. As results, the extremity of the reference point and the difficulty of the question affected the size of the anchoring effect respectively. The difficulty of the question also affected the confidence of the response. Specifically, when a plausible reference point was presented and when a difficult question was presented, the anchoring effects were increased. In addition, the lower the confidence in one's performances, the greater the influence of the reference point when an extreme reference point was presented. These results show that the plausibility of the given reference point and the difficulty of the item have different effects on the magnitude of the anchoring effect and the degree of confidence. The results of this study support the attitude change perspective regarding the anchoring effect, which suggests that the anchoring effect varies depending on the characteristics of the reference point and the individual's knowledge.
While the cognitive aspects of customer behavior have been a main subject of research, some researchers are now focusing on the emotional aspects. The influence of emotion on attitude and judgement has been accepted by many researchers, and most studies regarding emotion have focused on physical surroundings and emotional responses, based on Mehrabian & Russell's 1974 model. This study aimed to expand the scope of the model by including employee service. Here we examined the structural relationships between the physical surroundings and employee service of upscale restaurants, along with emotional response, and service loyalty. Physical surroundings and employee service were used as single factors, and we composed four different emotional responses: positive, negative, positive arousal, and negative arousal. While physical surroundings had impact on 'positive emotion' and 'positive arousal', Employee service had influence on 'negative emotion', and 'negative arousal' as well as 'positive emotion'. And 'positive emotion' and 'positive arousal' influenced service loyalty. Lastly, there was also a correlation between physical surroundings and employee service.
