The concept of frame in semantics has implications for our understanding of such problematic terms as "meaning" and "concept". It is conventional to say that a particular word corresponds to a particular "concept" and to assume that concepts are essentially identical across speakers. In contrast, the notion of frame accepts that the frame for a particular word can vary across speakers as a function of their particular life experience. To say, instead of thinking in terms of words as expressing "concepts", we should think of them as tools, like frames, that cause listeners to activate certain areas of their knowledge base, with different areas activated to different degrees in different contexts of use. This notion is Fillmore's most crucial contribution to current cognitive linguistic theories, and his frame semantics is built on such a notion. This paper discusses the basic assumptions and goals of frame semantics, and examines the notion of frame and illustrates various framing words of English and Korean under such a notion.

Assuming that the whole meaning of a document is a composition of the meanings of each part, this paper proposes to study the automatic grading of movie reviews which contain sentimental expressions. This will be accomplished by calculating the values of semantic segments and performing data classification for each review. The ARSSA(The Automatic Rating System for Sentiment analysis using an Appraisal dictionary) system is an effort to model decision making processes in a manner similar to that of the human mind. This aims to resolve the discontinuity between the numerical ranking and textual rationalization present in the binary structure of the current review rating system: {rate: review}. This model can be realized by performing analysis on the abstract menas extracted from each review. The performance of this system was experimentally calculated by performing a 10-fold Cross-Validation test of 1000 reviews obtained from the Naver Movie site. The system achieved an 85% F1 Score when compared to predefined values using a predefined appraisal dictionary.
The study examined the longitudinal relations of preschool children's peer interaction, linguistic and cognitive abilities, and self-control, while taking into account gender differences. The study was conducted with 671 preschoolers from the $5^{th}$, $6^{th}$, and $7^{th}$ wave of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS). Data were analyzed by means of basic descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlations, and structural equation modeling analysis. Bootstrapping method was also used to determine the significance of indirect effects. The analysis were conducted to find the longitudinal effects of peer interaction at the age of 4 on their self-control at the age of 6, and the mediating effects of linguistics and cognitive abilities at the age of 5 on its associations. The results indicated gender differences among the variables. According to multi-group analysis, there was a significant influence of 4 years' peer interaction on subsequent 5 years' linguistic and cognitive abilities but also on 6 years' self-control across time for boys; however, no significant direct effect of peer interaction on self-control was found for girls. Based on the findings of this study, it can be implied that it is necessary to apply different methods for boys and girls to promote self-control from the influence of peer interaction and linguistic and cognitive abilities.
There is a close interaction between the linguistic-syntactic representation system and the affective representation system that appear in the mathematical process. On the other hand, since the mathematical conceptual system is fundamentally metaphoric, the analysis of the mathematical concept structure through linguistic representation can help to identify the source of cognitive and affective obstacles that interfere with mathematics learning. In this study, we analyzed the problem-solving protocols of mathematical gifted children from the perspective of cognitive language and meta-affect to identify the relationship between the functional characteristics of the text and metaphor they use and the functional characteristics of meta-affect. As a result, the behavior of the cognitive and affective characteristics of mathematically gifted children differed according to the success of problem solving. In the case of unsuccessful problem-solving, the use of metaphor as an internal representation system was relatively more frequent than in the successful case. In addition, while the cognitive linguistic aspects of metaphors play an important role in problem-solving, meta-affective attributes are closely related to the external representation of metaphors.
This paper aims to propose a method of detecting irregular pronunciations for Korean POI data adopting the notion of the Prosodic Word based on the Prosodic Phonology (Selkirk 1984, Nespor and Vogel 1986) and Intonational Phonology (Jun 1996). In order to show the performance of the proposed method, the detection experiment was conducted on the 250,000 POI data. When all the data were trained, 99.99% of the exceptional prosodic words were detected, which shows the stability of the system. The results show that similar ratio of exceptional prosodic words (22.4% on average) were detected on each stage where a certain amount of the training data were added. Being intended to be an example of an interdisciplinary study of linguistics and computer science, this study will, on the one hand, provide an understanding of Korean language from the phonological point of view, and, on the other hand, enable a systematic development of a multiple pronunciation lexicon for Korean TTS or ASR systems of high performance.
The goal of this paper is to extract the hyponymy relation between words in the corpus. Adopting the basic algorithm of Hearst (1992), I propose a method of pattern-based extraction of semantic relations from the corpus. To this end, I set up a list of hypernym-hyponym pairs from Sejong Electronic Dictionary. This list is supplemented with the superordinate-subordinate terms of CoroNet. Then, I extracted all the sentences from the corpus that include hypemym-hyponym pairs of the list. From these extracted sentences, I collected all the sentences that contain meaningful constructions that occur systematically in the corpus. As a result, we could obtain 21 generalized patterns. Using the PERL program, we collected sentences of each of the 21 patterns. 57% of the sentences are turned out to have hyponymy relation. The proposed method in this paper is simpler and more advanced than that in Cederberg and Widdows (2003), in that using a word net or an electronic dictionary is generally considered to be efficient for information retrieval. The patterns extracted by this method are helpful when we look fer appropriate documents during information retrieval, and they are used to expand the concept networks like ontologies or thesauruses. However, the word order of Korean is relatively free and it is difficult to capture various expressions of a fired pattern. In the future, we should investigate more semantic relations than hyponymy, so that we can extract various patterns from the corpus.
In this paper, the modeling of phenomena that occurs in the brain related language was designed and developed the second language proficiency method. This method based on cognitive ability test in cognitive psychology that is the lexical decision task, the priming task and the verbal span task. The lexical decision task involves measuring how quickly decide stimuli as words or nonwords. This task is divided reading and listening according to stimulus type to the details. The priming task finds the output of the language. This task is divided the translation-priming and the semantic-priming according to stimulus type. The verbal span task finds the short term memory. In this paper, we propose the second language proficiency measurement method using the linguistics cognitive ability of the learner about the second language.

This discussion can be said to be a qualitative study on the possibility of linking communication education for college students and literacy education for Korean language-linked educators based on the theory of interpretation of cognitive meaning of media text containing complex mechanisms. The implicit meaning of media content expression used as an interactive communication strategy will be accepted as a multilateral interpretation according to the individual learner's cognitive environment. If so, how is the general media content meaning intended by the content creator being accepted? These doubts are the starting point for discussion. To solve the problem, I leaned on the experimental pragmatic methodology of cognitive aesthetics and applied a model of relevance of cognitive linguistics to connect learners' creative cognitive environment and present content to find a contrast. As a result of the discussion, it was possible to establish a basic framework for learners to express their subjectivity and creative thinking that could connect the cognitive environment and present content themselves. In particular, active and positive learners also revealed direct descriptive expressions to build a new cognitive environment, such as suggesting a third alternative to argue the ability to question produced media texts and the validity of the meaning implied in the text. In the future, since media text containing complex mechanisms is an indirect and persuasive communication behavior that occurs easily through various media in modern society, the universal communication principle of reliable conversation between media text creators and audiences should exist.
I will discuss some aspects of the meaning of prodiscoure maker 'kulay'in Korea. This marker has been studied few scholars, since Korean lingusts did not have any interest about this category of linguistic form. Also, they did not realized the importance of discourse and discourse markers. So,we have only shallow information about prodiscourse phenomena and prodiscourse markers, too. Morphologically, kulay(그래)'could be analyzed into 'ku(그)'and 'lay(래)'and 'lay(래)'could be divided into'l(ㄹ)'and 'ay(ㅐ)' again. But I will discuss 'kulay'as one linguistic unit without divison. It will be claimed in this paper that both [prodiscoures]feature and [discourse continuity]feature can satisfactorily account for the core meaning of'kulay'.And,it will be mentioned that the marker has many kinds of specfic meaning depends on paricular discourse. Also, I would like to examine the semantic feature([prodiscourse+discourse continuity]) in many kinds of korean discourse. And I will show that some factors re;ated tp the marker's specific meaning are the meaning of preceding and following discourse and the participant's psychological attitude. The conclusion must be that the meaning of 'kulay'can help us understand certain phenomena about prodiscourse and prodiscourse markers in the korean language. Also the various meanings of 'kulay'can give more information to Applied-Korean linguistics.
