Students' Experience in Using Twitter for Online Learning: Social-Affective and Cognitive Perspectives

  • The current study investigated whether SNS such as Twitter can be an assisting tool to compensate the limitations of online learning from social-affective and cognitive perspectives. Such limitations include low level of motivation to participate, feeling of isolation, rare exchanges of ideas and feedback from peers or instructors. This paper reports findings from a research study on the use of Twitter in online learning in Higher Education. Survey and subsequent interviews were conducted to examine students' perceptions about the cognitive and social-affective aspects of their participation in Twitter activities. Some of the challenges and potentials in integrating Twitter into online course are also addressed. It can be concluded that Twitter contributes not only to building close relationships among peers and instructors but also to opening a communication channel that can extend cognitive potentials.

  • Work environment has been changed as the development of new techknowledge such as computer industry. The more new techknowledges, the more changes in our work conditions. But our cognitive limits can't pace up to the change of work environment. As a result, rapid work transfer occurs frequently, which increase work stress, work error and deleterous work performance. For many changes, this paper analyse the effect of work performance when the information used in mental work is changed as a sudden impact during dexterous work conditions. When the information impact is intruded in works, performances are reduced, but the react time does not respond sensitively then cognitive process time. So it is recommended to refer the cognitive time as a index of performance when mental work is included.

IT서비스 프로젝트에 있어서 인지적 신뢰와 정서적 신뢰를 형성하는 요인들에 관한 연구 (A Study on Antecedents of Cognitive and Affective Trust Leading to IT Service Project Performance)

  • IT서비스는 지식서비스의 일종으로서 다른 분야의 전문가들이 모여서 함께 프로젝트를 수행하는 관계로, 제대로 된 성과를 내기 위해서는 구성원들간의 신뢰의 형성이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 기존 IT서비스 연구들에서 다루었던 신뢰의 내부구조를 좀 더 세분화하여 인지적 신뢰와 정서적 신뢰로 구분하여 프로젝트 성과에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 인지적 신뢰에 영향을 미치는 선행요인으로는 기술과 업무전문성을, 정서적 신뢰에 영향을 미치는 선행요인으로서는 사회적 유대감과 관계갈등을 선정하였다. 팀워크에서 중요한 커뮤니케이션으로는 두 가지 신뢰에 다 영향을 미치는 것으로 가설을 설정하였다. 연구모델의 실증을 위하여 IT프로젝트팀 리더를 대상으로 설문지법으로 자료를 수집하였고, 수집된 자료는 Smart PLS를 사용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 인지적 신뢰에 영향을 주는 요인으로 업무전문성이 기술전문성에 비해서 상대적으로 큰 영향력을 미쳤고, 갈등은 정서적 신뢰에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 커뮤니케이션은 인지적 신뢰와 정서적 신뢰에 각각 긍정적 영향을 미치고 있었으며, 더불어 인지적 신뢰가 정서적 신뢰형성의 선행요인으로 확인되었다. IT프로젝트 성과에는 인지적 신뢰뿐만 아니라 정서적 신뢰도 양(+)의 영향을 미치고 있으므로 성공적인 프로젝트를 위해서는 정서적 신뢰도 간과해서는 안 될 것이다. IT프로젝트의 성공요인으로의 인지적 신뢰와 정서적 신뢰가 각각 하나의 영향력을 가진 요인임을 알아냄으로서 향후 기업에서는 IT프로젝트 구성원들간의 신뢰형성에 노력을 기울이되 인지적 신뢰가 정서적 신뢰의 매개요인임을 고려하여 구체적인 커뮤니케이션을 진행하는 것이 바람직할 것이다.

한국 노인의 저작능력이 인지기능에 미치는 영향: 신체기능과 우울의 매개효과 (The Impact of Chewing Ability on Cognitive Function of Older People in Korea: Mediation Effect of Physical Function and Depression)

  • 본 연구는 65세 이상 노인을 대상으로 실시한 "2014년 노인실태조사"의 전국 조사 자료를 활용하여 한국 노인의 저작능력이 인지기능에 미치는 영향을 파악하고 신체기능과 우울의 매개효과를 확인하기 위한 이차자료 분석연구이다. 본 연구는 "2014년 노인실태조사"자료의 응답자 총 10,451명을 대상으로 하였으며 자료수집기간은 2014년 6월 11일~2014년 9월 4일까지였다. 본 연구에서 저작능력은 일상생활 불편감 중 씹기(고기나 딱딱한 것) 능력에 관한 도구를 이용하였으며, 인지기능은 MMSE-DS, 신체기능은 K-IADL, 우울은 SGDS-K 도구를 이용하여 측정하였다. 본 연구에서 수집된 자료는 SPSS 24.0프로그램과 Process Macro를 이용하여 분석하였고, 저작능력이 인지기능에 미치는 영향에 대하여 신체기능과 우울의 매개효과와 이중매개효과 검정은 Hayes(2013)의 Bootstrapping 방법에 기반한 Process Macro를 이용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구결과, 첫째, 대상자의 저작능력이 인지기능에 미치는 총 효과(p>.05)와 직접효과(p>.05)는 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 대상자의 저작능력은 신체기능을 단일 매개하여 인지기능에 미치는 완전매개 효과(p<.05)가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 대상자의 저작능력은 우울을 단일 매개하여 인지기능에 미치는 완전매개 효과(p<.05)가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 대상자의 저작능력이 신체기능과 우울을 이중 매개하여 인지기능에 미치는 완전매개 효과(p<.05)가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이롤 통해 본 연구는 한국노인의 인지기능 저하를 예방하기 위해서는 저작능력을 강화하고, 신체기능을 독립적으로 유지하고 우울을 예방하기 위한 프로그램 개발이 필요하고, 포괄적 노인건강사정 시 노인의 인지기능 저하에 영향을 주는 직, 간접적 요인을 주기적으로 모니터링 하는 체계적 전략이 필요함을 시사해 주었다.

A Study on the Effects of Cyber Bullying on Cognitive Processing Ability and the Emotional States: Moderating Effect of Social Support of Friends and Parents

  • College students experience more cyber bullying than youth and cyber bullying on college students may be more harmful than youth. But many studies of cyber bullying have been conducted in youth, but little has been studied for college students. Therefore, this study investigated the negative effects of college students' cyber bullying experience on cognitive processing ability and emotional states. The social support of friends has a buffering effect that prevents stress and reduces the influence on external damage in stressful situations. But the impact of parental social support is controversial. Traditionally, the social support of parents has been claimed to mitigate the negative effects of external damage. Recently, however, it has been argued that parental social support, without considering the independence and autonomy needs of college students, does not alleviate the negative effects. Therefore, this study examined how the social support of friends and parents moderate the negative impact of cyber bullying. The results show that the more college students experience cyber bullying, the lower their cognitive processing ability and emotional states. And, the higher the social support of friends, the lower the harmful impacts of cyber bullying on cognitive processing ability and emotional states. But, the higher the social support of parents, the higher the harmful impacts of cyber bullying on cognitive processing ability and emotional states.

The Impact of Speech-To-Text-based Class on Learners' Cognitive Abilities

  • 본 연구는 인공지능을 활용한 수업이 항공전문학교 학생의 인지적으로 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 먼저 프레젠테이션을 활용한 수업에서 전통적인 멀티미디어 자료 기반의 수업과 Speech-to-text(STT)기반의 인공지능 자료로 구성된 수업을 개발하였다. A 항공 전문 교육기관의 학생 133명이 두 가지 유형의 수업에 참여하였다. 수업 전후에 학생들의 인지 부하와 Mind Wandering을 측정하였고, 성취도평가를 실시하였다. 검사의 분석 결과, 외재적 인지 부하는 감소하였고 콘텐츠 집중도가 높아졌으며 성취도가 향상됨을 확인하였다. 향후 기술을 지도하는 학교에서 인공지능 기반의 STT수업이 많이 활용되기를 기대한다.

Cognitive impairment in childhood onset epilepsy: up-to-date information about its causes

  • Cognitive impairment associated with childhood-onset epilepsy is an important consequence in the developing brain owing to its negative effects on neurodevelopmental and social outcomes. While the cause of cognitive impairment in epilepsy appears to be multifactorial, epilepsy-related factors such as type of epilepsy and underlying etiology, age at onset, frequency of seizures, duration of epilepsy, and its treatment are considered important. In recent studies, antecedent cognitive impairment before the first recognized seizure and microstructural and functional alteration of the brain at onset of epilepsy suggest the presence of a common neurobiological mechanism between epilepsy and cognitive comorbidity. However, the overall impact of cognitive comorbidity in children with epilepsy and the independent contribution of each of these factors to cognitive impairment have not been clearly delineated. This review article focuses on the significant contributors to cognitive impairment in children with epilepsy.

  • After defining the determining factor of an attitude on clothing web-site as cognitive responses and affective responses, this study was to investigate how it affects against web-site attitude, brand attitude and purchase intention. To accomplish research subject, this study had an analysis on web-site attitude, brand attitude and purchase intention after selecting 3 department stores having mega fashion malls which run web-sites. Aad(Attitude toward an advertisement) was defined as cognitive responses and affective responses. This research analyzed it by multiple regression analysis after collecting a date from 265 customers who use 3 department stores selected The findings are as follows. First, Aad had a significance impact on web-site attitude across the department stores. Second, Aad had a significance impact on brand attitude across the department stores. Third, Aad had a significance impact on purchase intentions across the department stores. At the end of this paper, discussion, managerial implications, limitations, and future research directions were suggested.

Linking Emotional Brand Attachment and Sales Promotion to Post-Purchase Cognitive Dissonance: The Mediating Role of Impulse Buying Behavior

  • The primary objective of this research is to develop a better understanding of consumer's post-purchase psychological state by examining the influence of sales promotion and emotional brand attachment on post-purchase cognitive dissonance, taking into account the mediating role of impulse buying behavior. The current study addresses several gaps in literature. Firstly, it is hard to find the direct impact of sales promotion and emotional brand attachment on post-purchase cognitive dissonance. Secondly, to the best of our knowledge, few studies have investigated the mediating role of impulse buying behavior in consumer research. A sample of 256 respondents was collected from Pakistani retail consumers. The statistical findings of this study show that sales promotion has a significant positive effect on the impulse buying behavior and post-purchase cognitive dissonance. Furthermore, results indicate that emotional brand attachment has a negative influence on impulse buying behavior but has a significant positive impact on post-purchase cognitive dissonance. Meanwhile, impulse buying behavior is a potential mediator between sales promotion, emotional brand attachment, and post-purchase cognitive dissonance relationships. The moderating role of Gender describes that the positive relationship between sales promotion and post-purchase cognitive dissonance will be stronger for women as compared to men at a higher level of sales promotion.

Mediating Effect of Cognitive Function on the Relationship Between Geriatric Oral Health and Quality of Life Among Korean Seniors

  • Objectives: Previous studies have found that the oral health of seniors can affect their physical nutrition and quality of life (QoL). Additionally, poor oral health can lead to the development of dementia, which is associated with decreased cognitive function. This study aimed to examine the impact of geriatric oral health (GOH) on the QoL of Korean seniors and the mediating effects of cognitive function. Methods: We used data from the seventh Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging conducted in 2018. In total, 4049 seniors were included in our study. We analyzed the impact of GOH on QoL according to 5 mediating domains of cognitive function and control variables. To examine each path of mediating effects, bootstrapping with 5000 iterations was performed with 95% confidence intervals. Results: Our findings revealed that good GOH had a positive effect on the QoL of seniors. Also, better GOH corresponded to a higher degree of cognitive function within all 5 domains: orientation, memory registration, attention/calculation, memory recall, and language and visuospatial ability. In addition, 3 domains of the 5 domains (attention/calculation, memory recall, and language and visuospatial ability) had significant mediating effects on the relationship between GOH and QoL. Conclusions: This study suggests that adequate management of GOH is crucial for promoting a better QoL and a high degree of cognitive function among seniors. To prevent cognitive impairment, such as dementia, future studies should take a more targeted approach by examining data according to each cognitive domain and various socio-demographic factors.
