Child Behavior Checklist-Korean, Social Skills Rating System, Social Acceptance were administered in pre- and post-stages. For the analysis of the data, Mann-Whitney U test was used. The findings from the research are summarized as follows: 1) The experimental group who was treated in music therapy showed a positive effect on problem behaviors. That is to say, the participants in the experimental group improved in emotional and cognitive stability while they significantly decreased attack behaviors; 2) The experimental group statistically showed significant improvement in their social behaviors compared to the control group. The music therapy group significantly increased social skills such as cooperation, self-assertion, and self-control. However, they did not improve responsibility as social skills in a significant manner; and 3) The experimental group showed higher degree of social acceptance than the control group. However, the result did not show a significant difference between the groups. In conclusion, the study proved positive effects of music therapy on ADHD children's uncarefulness, attack behaviors, and social skills for seven-week experimental period.

  • This study aimed to identify success factors of smoking cessation for 6 months in Adolescent smokers. Data were collected from January to December, 2008. The 925 adolescent smokers were registered smoking cessation clinic at public health center in Incheon. Data(demographic, smoking, smoking cessation) were analyzed by logistic regression. Major factors are attempting to quit smoking(no trial, OR=9.48), alcohol drinking(yes, OR=4.61), information source for registration(family, friends's ask, OR=3.94), cessation methods(cognitive+behavior+ nicotine alternative therapy, OR=2.45), gender(male, OR=1.78), grade in school(high schooler, OR=1.65), expiration CO concentration (OR=0.95), and nicotine dependency(OR=0.76). Therefore, smoking cessation policy for adolescence should be emphasized on smoking prevention as well as smoking cessation. We have to help the adolescent to succeed in smoking cessation when they attempt to quit smoking at first time. Female student smokers and middle school smokers should be given advice for smoking cessation motives and more times of counselling for smoking cessation. If adolescent smokers have high expiration CO concentration and high nicotine dependency, they should not only take cognitive-behavior therapy but also nicotine alternative therapy.

  • This research was conducted to compare the rhythm reproduction abilities between older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and analyze the abilities depending on the rhythm idiom. Participants between 60-85 years of age were recruited from senior community centers, dementia prevention centers, and senior welfare centers. A total of 57 participants were included in this study: 27 diagnosed with MCI and 30 healthy older adults (HOA). The experiment was conducted individually in a private room in which a participant was given random binary time rhythm idioms and instructed to reproduce the rhythmic idioms with finger tapping. Each participant's beat production was recorded with the Beat Processing Device (BPD) for iPad. BPD calculated rhythm reproduction as measured through rhythm ratio and error among beats. Results showed marginal differences between the two groups in terms of mean scores of rhythm reproduction abilities. In terms of the rhythm ratio among beats, both groups' highest rhythm reproduction rate was for <♩ ♩>, and their lowest reproduction rate was for <♩. ♪>. In conclusion, there was no significant difference in rhythm reproduction ability between the HOA and MCI groups. However, the study found an interesting result related to performance level of rhythmic idioms. This result provides therapeutic insight for formulating rhythm tasks for older adults.

To understand basic concepts and practical factors of play, the functions of play behavior and it's clinical application were summarized. As major therapeutic approaches, both theoretical concepts and practical techniques of psychoanalytic approach and those of nondirective approach were presented. For clinician it is important to know developmental theories which can be applied to various therapeutic technics and to apply these theories to play therapy situations. So, to know the developmental approach in play psychotherapy, play as a developmental process, its' therapeutic application, play in the perspective of cognitive development and the therapeutic process of play psychotherapy were reviewed. With the knowledge of developmental concept therapists can increase their abilities to prescribe an appropriate type of play therapy.

  • Being engaged in the musical tasks needs cognitive skills to perceive musical sound, organize them into meaningful unit, store them in the memory and retrieve them when needed. These skills are also required for academic tasks indicating that there is positive correlation between skills for musical and academic tasks. Based on these findings, the study purported to examine whether the developed sessions can enhance cognitive skills which is composed of auditory information skills, which is composed of perceiving sounds, organizing them into groups based on the existing information or organization pattern, and short-term memory skills. Eighteen elementary students in 4, 5, and 6th grades have participated in the study. The study has administered Music Cognitive Skills Test(MCST) before and after implementing music therapy sessions. The MCST consisted of five parts, first one measuring the rhythm imitating skills, second, measuring the melodic imitation skills, third, measuring discriminative skills in identifying higher pitch, fourth, measuring discriminative skills in identifying identical chords, and lastly, measuring the tone retention skills. The results indicated that there was statistical difference between the pre and post test in rhythm and melody imitation skills. Because reproduction of perceived rhythm patterns requires memory skills, imitating patterns are considered cognitive skills. Also melody is defined adding spatial dimension to the rhythm which is temporal concept. Being able to understand melodic pattern and to reproduce the pattern also requires cognitive skills. The subjects have shown significant improvement in these two areas. In other areas, there were definite increase of scores, however, no significant differences. The study also explores interpretation of these results and also observed consistencies among the participants in completing the musical tasks.

  • Acrophobia is an abnormal fear of heights. Medications or cognitive-behavior methods have been mainly used as a treatment. Lately the virtual reality technology has been applied to that kind of anxiety disorders. A virtual environment provides patient with stimuli which arouses phobia, and exposing to that environment makes him having ability to over come the fear. In this study, the elevator stimulator that composed with a position sensor, head mount display, and audio system, is suggested. To illustrate the physiological difference between a person who has a feel of phobia and without phobia, heart rate was measured during experiment. And also measured a person's HR after the virtual reality training and in a real building elevator. In this study, we demonstrated the subjective effectiveness of virtual reality psychotherapy through the clinical experiment.
