Collaborative learning encourages the use of high-level cognitive strategies, critical thinking, and interpersonal relationships. Despite these advantages, most instructors reveal the difficulties of using project-based collaborative learning; a common problem is the failure of the group to work effectively together. Thus, this study attempted to provide practical advice on group composition with self-regulation. In a college course, 31 groups with 129 students were asked to discuss and prepare the final presentation material and present it together as a collaborative work. All students' self-regulation skills were measured at the beginning of the semester, and the collective self-regulation was computed as an average of the individual scores of each group. The results of regression analysis indicate that the group's collective self-regulation shows a highly significant positive effect on group performance and satisfaction, as self-regulation predicts individual academic performance. The results also show that there is a significant positive relationship between students' self-regulation and participation in group work.
In this paper, a style-based approach to translating literary texts is introduced and used. The aim of the study is to work out a stylistic approach to translating literary texts from Arabic into English. The approach proposed in the current study is a combination of four major stylistic approaches, namely linguistic stylistics, literary stylistics, affective stylistics and cognitive stylistics. It has been shown from data analysis that by adopting a style-based approach that can draw from the four stylistic approaches, translators, as special text readers, can easily derive a better understanding and appreciation of texts, in particular literary texts. Further, it has been shown that stylistics as an approach is objective in terms of drawing evidence from the text to support the argument for the important stylistic features and their functions. However, it loses some of its objectivity and becomes dependent and subjective.
The performance of a cognitive radio network (CRN) solely depends on how precisely the secondary users can sense the presence or absence of primary users. The incorporation of a spatial false alarm makes deriving the probability of a correct decision a cumbersome task. Previous literature performed this task for the case of a received signal under a Normal probability density function case. In this paper we enhance the previous work, including the impact of carrier frequency, the gain of antennas on both sides, and antenna heights so as to observe the robustness against noise and interference and to make the correct decision of detection. Three small scale fading channels: Rayleigh, Normal, and Weibull were considered to get the real scenario of a CRN in an urban area. The incorporation of a maximal-ratio combining and selection combing with a variation of the number of received antennas have also been studied in order to achieve the correct decision of spectral sensing, so as to serve the cognitive users. Finally, we applied the above concept to a traffic model of the CRN, which we based on a two-dimensional state transition chain.

This study aims to obtain empirical evidence about the cognitive effect of Islamic religiosity and budget control in reducing budgetary slack behavior. This study involved 176 managers as respondents in 10 local companies in Eastern Indonesia. Managers who are respondents in thus study work and are spread across 14 provinces in Indonesia. Probability sampling method has been used for this study from the total population with certain criteria. Data analysis has been done using Warp PLS-SEM technique. The results showed that Islamic religiosity cognitive and budget control had a direct negative effect on budgetary slack behavior. The two variables also fully mediate the relationship between participatory budgeting and budget-based compensation schemes on the behavior of budgetary slack in a negative and significant way. These results mean that the two variables are proven to reduce budgetary slack behavior. This empirical evidence at the same time corrects the agency theory's assumptions about opportunistic human nature and always maximizes every potential economic profit. In addition, the results also show that Islamic religiosity cognitive is stronger in reducing budgetary slack behavior. These results can be used to improve the company's budget control system by incorporating elements that motivate religious goals so that it is more effective in reducing budgetary slack behavior.
The primary objective of this work was to discover a solution for the survival of people in an emergency flood. The geographical information was obtained from remote sensing techniques. Through helpline numbers, people who are in need request support. Although, it cannot be ensured that all the people will acquire the facility. A proper link is required to communicate with people who are at risk in affected areas. Mobile sensor networks with field-programmable gate array (FPGA) self-configurable radios were deployed in damaged areas for communication. Ad-hoc networks do not have a centralized structure. All the mobile nodes deploy a temporary structure and they act as a base station. The mobile nodes are involved in searching the spectrum for channel utilization for better communication. FPGA-based techniques ensure seamless communication for the survivors. Timely help will increase the survival rate. The received signal strength is a vital factor for communication. Cognitive radio ensures channel utilization in an effective manner which results in better signal strength reception. Frequency band selection was carried out with the help of the GRA-MADM method. In this study, an analysis of signal strength for different mobile sensor nodes was performed. FPGA-based implementation showed enhanced outcomes compared to software-based algorithms.
Recently many organizations have adopted 'untact' work due to social distancing caused by Coronavirus-19. To clarify some controversy about the effectiveness from 'untact' work, it is necessary to examine the cognition of organizational members. This study identified issues in 'untact' work from the literature review, analyzed the content of in-depth interviews with workers and managers experiencing 'untact' work, and compared both groups' cognition by applying the co-orientation model. Both groups pointed out the communication difficulty as the top disadvantage and showed no significant differences in job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and work-life balance. However, the two groups showed significant differences in their cognition about performance evaluation (agreement and workers' congruence) and productivity enhancement (workers' accuracy). This paper has an academic contribution in that it has focused on cognitive gaps between workers and managers, urges organizations to devise ways to reduce the gaps, and suggests future studies with quantitative approaches.
Resourcefulness was analyzed by Walker and Avant's method to make a theoretical framework for nursing. Also, the appropriate Korean terminology was identified.“Resourcefulness”means the ability to use internal and external resources to eliminate or to control stress. '자원동원성' is chosen to be the most appropriate term to reflect the concept of resourcefulness. Upon the concept analysis, availability, controllability, confidence, and self-instruction were identified as the defining characteristics of resourcefulness. Contrary to other work, "availability" means the ability to use the social resources as well as the internal cognitive-behavioral resources. “Controllability” means the ability to delay or control immediate gratification of one's needs or to divert one's own mood in order to solve problem. "Confidence" is the self-efficacy belief in one's control ability. "Self-instruction" is the cognitive ability to instruct oneself positively. Resourcefulness is learned by active experience, vicarious experience, and formal or informal instruction, and it is cued in the presence of a stressful situation or a need for change. As a result of the use of resourcefulness, the target behavior performed immediately and ultimately improve the quality of life or adaptation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the instrument including the defining attributes identified in this study. Also, it is necessary to simultaneously analyze the related concepts of self-efficacy, self-control, and self-regulation for appropriate use.
Background: Factors related to root causes can cause commonly occurring accidents such as falls, slips, and jammed injuries. An important means of reducing the frequency of occupational accidents in small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMSEs) of South Korea is to perform intensity analysis of the root cause factors for accident prevention in the cause and effect model like decision models, epidemiological models, system models, human factors models, LCU (life change unit) models, and the domino theory. Especially intensity analysis in a robot system and smart technology as Industry 4.0 is very important in order to minimize the occupational accidents and fatal accident because of the complexity of accident factors. Methods: We have developed the modern cause and effect model that includes factors of root cause through statistical testing to minimize commonly occurring accidents and fatal accidents in SMSEs of South Korea and systematically proposed educational policies for accident prevention. Results: As a result, the consciousness factors among factors of root cause such as unconsciousness, disregard, ignorance, recklessness, and misjudgment had strong relationships with occupational accidents in South Korean SMSEs. Conclusion: We conclude that the educational policies necessary for minimizing these consciousness factors include continuous training procedures followed by periodic hands-on experience, along with perceptual and cognitive education related to occupational health and safety.
This study investigated the effects of teaching-learning lesson plan using cognitive acceleration instructional strategies applied to the unit, 'The Light and Shadow' in elementary school. Two classes of the second grade elementary students (N=63) in Chungcheongbukdo districts were assigned to control and treatment groups each, and were taught about 'The Light and Shadow' for 8 class hours. For the treatment group, teaching-learning lesson plan using cognitive acceleration instructional strategies developed by this research was applied. The traditional instruction by textbook and teacher's guides was used for the control group. All students were tested with the test for concept of the shadow and the test for academic achievement about the unit. As the result of the post-test, the scores of the treatment group were higher than those of the control group. However, it was not statistically meaningful difference. The scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the delayed-post-test for concept of the shadow. No significant interaction was observed with respect to the students' gender, instruction and pre-level for the concept of the shadow. Data analysis indicated that the scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the post-test and delayed- post-test for the concept of the shadow in the area of object permanence. Our research work shows the effectiveness of the teaching-learning lesson using cognitive acceleration instructional strategies for the development for concept of the shadow for elementary school students, and suggests the necessity for this kind of teaching-learning program in the fields.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the actual realization of the opportunity to learn given to students by examining students' cognition for enrichment mathematics textbook tasks' levels of cognitive demand. First, we analyze characteristics and limitations based on the theoretical framework. Second, we examine students' cognition about the distribution of the mathematics textbook tasks' levels of cognitive demand. And we analyze how the opportunity to learn actually work. Third, in the sense that enrichment textbooks are textbooks for science school students, we analyze whether the opportunity to learn for gifted is offered. The conclusion is as follows: First, with respect to levels of cognitive demand, PNC tasks account most. Second, students also cognize that PNC tasks account most. Third, tasks for gifted are not offered and students also cognize that opportunity to learn for gifted is lacked.
