Effects of Cognitive Spectrum Program on the Development of Children from Low Income Families (Cognitive Spectrum 프로그램이 저소득가정 아동의 발달에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the Cognitive Spectrum Program, a cognitive development program designed to increase children's IQ. The effect of this program was verified using a nonequivalent control group design. The subjects were 127 5-8 year old children. 56 children were assigned to the experimental group and 71 children to the control group. The experimental group participated in thirteen 90 min. long sessions. Quantitative analyses using SPSS WIN 18.0 and qualitative analyses were carried out. The results were as follows: First, this Cognitive Spectrum Program was shown to be effective in improving cognitive development. Second, the amount of improvement in cognitive development was found to be predictive of the amount of change in socioemotional development, demonstrating that attention deficits and overall problem behaviors were greatly reduced among the children whose IQ was improved by this program. This finding was also verified through qualitative analyses.

Effects of Computer-Based Cognitive Rehabilitation on the Attention of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Single-Subject Study (전산화 인지재활이 자폐스펙트럼장애 아동의 주의력에 미치는 효과: 단일대상연구 )

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of computerized cognitive rehabilitation on the attention of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Methods : A multiple-baseline design was used in combination with a single-subject experimental research design. A total of 15 sessions were conducted three times a week, each lasting for 30 minutes. The maintenance and selective attention tests in the attention area of the computerized cognitive rehabilitation program were evaluated in random order after each session was completed. To evaluate the participants' selective attention, star cancellation tests was performed as pre- and post-tests. Results : After the computerized cognitive rehabilitation intervention, the accuracy of the participants' attention improved in terms of the maintenance and selective attention tests. In the analysis involving the two standard deviation bands, participants 1 and 2 showed a significant improvement, whereas participant 3 did not show a significant improvement, although the average value improved. Conclusion : The results of this study confirmed that cognitive rehabilitation involving a computerized cognitive rehabilitation program had a positive effect on the attention of three children with ASD.

  • In this paper, interference analysis is carried out to obtain the operating criterion and coexistence condition between digital television devices and cognitive radio-based mobile wimax devices in the UHF (Ultra High Frequency) broadcasting frequency bands. To this end, an efficient interfering calculation tool known as SEAMCAT (Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte-Carlo Analysis Tool) is employed to acquire the coexistence criterions between heterogeneous radio links operating in the same portion of spectrum. As a result, these criterions will be used to achieve interference temperature limit level applied to interference temperature model for analyzing the capacity of cognitive radio receivers accurately.

The Effects of Multidimensional Program on Cognition, Physical Function and Depression for Institutionalized Elderly (다차원적 프로그램이 시설노인의 인지, 신체기능 및 우울에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of multidimensional program on cognition, physical function and depression among institutionalized elderly and the relationship between study variables and resident's characteristics and health related variables. Method: This study involved a one group pre and post test, comparison of variables over a 12 month period. To investigate this research question, data of 114 residents of a nursing home were analyzed. Results: There was statistically significant difference in MMSE-K (t=-2.63, p=.010), ADL (t=-2.85, p=.005), and depression (t=4.66, p=.000) before and after program participation. Conclusion: These results indicate that, for a year their regular involvement in a broad spectrum of multidimensional program activities can improve in cognitive, physical and emotional perspectives, but the level of IADL decreased significantly (t=-6.72, p=.000). Further testing is required with the control group, to compare with community resident elders in order to explore the effects on social skill of elderly.

Effects of Semi-structured DIRFloortime® Therapy Using Board Games on Verbal Comprehension and Processing Speed Index in Children With High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders (보드 게임을 활용한 반 구조화된 DIRFloortime® 치료가 고기능 자폐스펙트럼 장애 아동의 언어 이해 및 정보처리 지표 기능향상에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was conducted to explore the effects of semi-structured $DIRFloortime^{(R)}$ treatment on the enhancement of language comprehension and information processing of children with high-performance autistic spectrum disabilities. We measured the general characteristics of the test subjects, which are level of autism, total intelligence, language comprehension and information processing indicators. The intervention method used was a semi-structured $DIRFloortime^{(R)}$ therapy using board game intervention program after revising and supplementing the expert content validity. A pre/post-test for a group was designed as a similar experiment and the pre/post test was initiated with the t certification at .05 of significance level. After initiating the program, the post test has shown that the language comprehension indicators showed statistically significant levels of difference (p<.001) and the information processing indicator also had a statistically significant effect (p<.001). There was a statistically significant difference (p<.001) in the level of verbal comprehension index after the program implementation, and statistically significant differences in the information processing index (p<.001). The semi-structured $DIRFloortime^{(R)}$ treatment using boardgames for enhancing the language comprehension and information processing indicators of children with high performance autistic spectrum disorder had a significant effect.

A Systematic Review on the Relationship of Saccadic Eye Movements and Cognition (안구운동과 인간의 인지기능의 관련성에 대한 체계적 고찰)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to look at a systematic review on the relationships of saccadic eye movements and cognition. Through this comprehensive study, we have to compare the studies. Methods: We systematically examined papers published in journal from 1995 to 2015, using KERIS. Main words to examine are saccadic eye movements, cognitive function, cognition, relationship, saccade program, etc. Results: 6 studies were selected, All of them were saccadic eye movements. Eye movements and cognitive function have correlation. Age from 5 to 65 years from the studies, they found the relationships between cognition and saccade(p<.05). However, the results demonstrated some limitations. First, there were variation in large of age spectrum. Second, the populations were small. Therefore, in the future study, saccadic eye movements study apply to variety of interventions to separate experimental group and control group as cohort study, and majority of patients is needed on occupational therapy. Conclusions: In the future study, the use of eye movements apply to a variety of interventions and majority of patients is needed for the effect of cognitive function improvements. If occupational therapists can obtain knowledge and make a protocol for cognitive program.
