Performance of Dual Polarized MIMO System using Six-Port Receiver for Cognitive Radio

  • Cognitive radio is a paradigm for wireless communication in which either network of wireless node itself changes particular transmission or reception parameters to execute its tasks efficiently without interfering with the licensed users. This paper represents a performance of the cognitive radio technology on dual polarized MIMO system using six-port receiver. Six-port technology is well known direct conversion receiver. In this paper, a six-port phase discriminator based polarization signal separation is shown. That is, the SER(Symbol Error Rate) performance is improved using polarization separator and simple receiver architecture is proposed applying six-port receiver. The six-port technology has priority to adapt changeable frequency system and variable environments for cognitive radio. In general, dual polarized MIMO system has good capacity and quality using polarization separator [1].

  • Cognitive Radio (CR) technology is proposed for using the unused spectrum band efficiently because of the spectrum scarcity problems. Spectrum sensing is one of the most challenging issues in cognitive radio system. In this paper, we focus on the signal detection of WiBro system band. As most of the modulated signals can be treated as cyclostationary random process, we can detect the signal of the OFDM signals in WiBro system. OFDM symbols using WiBro system have several pilot subcarriers and periodic pilots have cyclostationary characteristic. To improve of the detection performance, we get diversity gain using multiple antennas.

Joint Beamforming and Power Allocation for Multiple Primary Users and Secondary Users in Cognitive MIMO Systems via Game Theory

  • We consider a system where a licensed radio spectrum is shared by multiple primary users(PUs) and secondary users(SUs). As the spectrum of interest is licensed to primary network, power and channel allocation must be carried out within the cognitive radio network so that no excessive interference is caused to PUs. For this system, we study the joint beamforming and power allocation problem via game theory in this paper. The problem is formulated as a non-cooperative beamforming and power allocation game, subject to the interference constraints of PUs as well as the peak transmission power constraints of SUs. We design a joint beamforming and power allocation algorithm for maximizing the total throughput of SUs, which is implemented by alternating iteration of minimum mean square error based decision feedback beamforming and a best response based iterative power allocation algorithm. Simulation results show that the algorithm has better performance than an existing algorithm and can converge to a locally optimal sum utility.

  • Cognitive Radio 환경에서 서비스영역 밖에 있는 사용자는 통신을 하지 못하도록 규정을 하고 있다. 그 이유는 주사용자가 서비스를 제공받는데 피해나 간섭의 영향을 대비하기 위해서이다. 이와 같은 규정이 보장된다면, CR 사용자는 서비스 영역 밖에서도 충분히 서비스를 제공받을 수 있게 된다. 본 논문에서는 주 사용자에게 과도한 간섭을 발생시키지 않는 실용적 시스템에 대한 논의, 즉, 제안된 기법을 통해 부사용자를 위한 가능한 이득이 주사용자에게 비간섭이 되는 사항에 중점을 둔다. 본 논문에서는 그 방법을 BBA(Bi-directional Beamforming Antenna), 즉 지향성 양방향 안테나를 이용하여 제시한다.

  • 본 논문은 cognitive radio (CR) 기능을 갖는 무선 멀티홉 릴레이 네트워크의 throughput 용량에 대한 연구 결과이다. 본 논문에서는 TDMA/FDMA에 기반한 프레임 구조를 갖는 릴레이가 기지국과 통신할 때 CR 기술을 이용하여 현재 사용되고 있지 않는 주파수 자원을 측정하여 동적으로 이용하는 시스템을 제안하고 이의 throughput 용량 모델을 제안 하였다. 특히, 본 논문에서는 Utilization factor를 이용하여 제안된 시스템을 위한 throughput 용량 모델을 제안하였다. 해석 모델링 결과 본 논문에서 제안한 CR 기반 멀티홉 릴레이 시스템은 throughput 용량을 매우 향상하는 결과를 보였다.

Optimal Sensing Time for Maximizing the Throughput of Cognitive Radio Using Superposition Cooperative Spectrum Sensing

  • Spectrum sensing plays an essential role in a cognitive radio network, which enables opportunistic access to an underutilized licensed spectrum. In conventional cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS), all cognitive users (CUs) in the network spend the same amount of time on spectrum sensing and waste time in remaining silent when other CUs report their sensing results to the fusion center. This problem is solved by the superposition cooperative spectrum sensing (SPCSS) scheme, where the sensing time of a CU is extended to the reporting time of the other CUs. Subsequently, SPCSS assigns the CUs different sensing times and thus affects both the sensing performance and the throughput of the system. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to determine the optimal sensing time of each CU for SPCSS that maximizes the achieved system throughput. The simulation results prove that the proposed scheme can significantly improve the throughput of the cognitive radio network compared with the conventional CSS.

Enhanced Adaptive Beamforming and Null Steering Algorithms in Cognitive Radio System

  • The spectrum efficiency of mobile communication networks can be improved dramatically adopting multiple antennas technologies. In order to guarantee the licensed rights of primary user (PU), the cognitive radio system should perform in a relatively low interference manner when it gets access to the spectrum of licensed networks. In this paper, we explore a uniformly distributed circular antenna array to implement beamforming algorithm that is accomplished by optimization method at the base station of cognitive radio networks, and therefore we can suppress the interference to PU by steering quite low transmission power toward PU and constructing a narrow beam toward cognitive user (CU). By reducing the constraint number of the optimization problem, we also propose a null steering algorithm that steers rather low radiation power toward PU, while the other areas in the same cell are covered by radiation power except the local area around PU. It is pursued to reduce the computation load and enlarge the capacity of cognitive radio networks extremely. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms process superior performance.

  • 인지무선(CR: Cognitive Radio) 기술은 최근의 스펙트럼 부족 문제 때문에 사용하지 않는 스펙트럼 대역을 효과적으로 사용하기 위해서 제안되었다. 인지무선 기술에서 스펙트럼 센싱 기술은 주요 이슈 중의 하나이고, 비면허 사용자는 1차 사용자에게 할당된 빈 스펙트럼 자원을 확인하고 활용할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 협력 스펙트럼 센싱 기술을 지능형 교통시스템(ITS: Intelligent Transport system)에 적용하여 신호 검출의 성능을 분석한다. 그리고 협력 신호 검출을 위해서 OR-rule과 AND-rule을 사용하여 신호 검출의 성능과 신뢰성을 향상시킨다.

  • 본 논문에서 제안한 무선 인지 기반 초광대역(UWB) 시스템은 주파수 자원 이용 효율성을 높이기 위한 주파수 공유 기술인 UWB와 무선 인지 기술이 결합된 기술로, 본 논문에서는 무선 인지 기술을 이용하여 타 시스템과의 간섭을 회피하여 성능 향상을 보임을 확인하고자 한다. 본 논문에서는 타 통신 시스템과의 간섭 문제를 해결하기 위하여 무선 인지 기술을 MB-OFDM UWB 시스템에 적용하였으며, 간섭 신호 측정을 위한 방안으로는 FCC에서 제안한 간섭 온도 모델을 사용하였다. 간섭 온도 측정을 통해 시스템의 채널 용량을 계산한 후 간섭 상황을 해결하는 방안을 제안한다. 계산 과정의 인지 엔진의 연산 알고리즘으로는 유전 알고리즘을 사용하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 제안된 방식은 현재 문제시될 수 있는 UWB 통신 시스템에서의 간섭 문제를 해결하는데 좋은 효과가 있음을 확인하였다.

On the Performance of Cooperative Spectrum Sensing of Cognitive Radio Networks in AWGN and Rayleigh Fading Environments

  • For the purpose of enhancing the spectrum efficiency, cognitive radio (CR) technology has been recently proposed as a promising dynamic spectrum allocation paradigm. In CR, spectrum sensing is the key capability of secondary users in a cognitive radio network that aims for reducing the probability of harmful interference with primary users. However, the individual CRs might not be able to carry out reliable detection of the presence of a primary radio due to the impact of channel fading or shadowing. This paper studies the cooperative spectrum sensing scheme as means of optimizing the sensing performance in AWGN and Rayleigh channels. Results generated from simulation provide evidence of the impact of channel condition on the complementary receiver operating characteristic (ROC). Based on the results, it was found that with constant local SNRs at the secondary users, the probability of missed detection ($P_m$) of cooperative spectrum sensing in a cognitive radio network, calculated using a closed form expression, can be significantly minimized. Thus, the paper illustrates that improvement of the detection performance of the CR network can be achieved by establishing a centralized cooperation among neighboring cognitive radio users. Finally, verification of the validity of the fusion schemes utilized for combining the individual CR decisions is provided.
