공학설계에서 인지적 팀 다양성, 공학설계 자기효능감 및 팀 창의성의 관계 (Relationships among Cognitive Team Diversity, Engineering Design Self-Efficacy, and Team Creativity in Engineering Design)

  • This study examined the moderating effect of engineering design self-efficacy on the relationship between cognitive team diversity and team creativity. For this study, 377 mechanical engineering students in engineering design classes were included in the analysis. The results showed that both cognitive team diversity and engineering design self-efficacy were positively correlated with team creativity. The analysis of moderating effect indicated that engineering design self-efficacy further reinforced the positive relationship between cognitive team diversity and team creativity. Finally, implications and limitations of this study were explored.

Improving safety performance of construction workers through cognitive function training

  • Due to the aging workforce in the construction industry in South Korea, the accident rate has been increasing. The cognitive abilities of older workers are closely related to both safety incidents and labor productivity. Therefore, there is a need to improve cognitive abilities through personalized training based on cognitive assessment results, using cognitive training content, in order to enable safe performance in labor-intensive environments. The provided cognitive training content includes concentration, memory, oreintation, attention, and executive functions. Difficulty levels were applied to each content to enhance user engagement and interest. To stimulate interest and encourage active participation of the participants, the difficulty level was automatically adjusted based on feedback from the MMSE-DS results and content measurement data. Based on the accumulated data, individual training scenarios have been set differently to intensively improve insufficient cognitive skills, and cognitive training programs will be developed to reduce safety accidents at construction sites through measured data and research. Through such simple cognitive training, it is expected that the reduction of accidents in the aging construction workforce can lead to a decrease in the social costs associated with prolonged construction periods caused by accidents.

  • 한정된 자원인 주파수 자원을 보다 효율적으로 사용하고자 시간적/공간적으로 주파수를 공유하는 기술 개발이 가속화되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 대표적인 주파수 공유 기술 중 하나인 Cognitive Radio에서 두뇌 역할을 하는 인지 알고리즘과 필요한 데이터베이스 종류 및 특성을 알아보고, 이들이 이용되는 Cognitive Engine을 구현한 예를 보였다. Cognitive Radio 관련 기술은 아직 연구 초기 단계이기 때문에 Cognitive Radio에 최적인 데이터베이스, 알고리즘, 엔진을 제시 하지는 못했지만 관련 기술 개발 방향을 제시하고 개발 시 고려사항들에 대해 설명하였다.

Design Issues of Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks

  • This paper investigates the design issues of spectrum sensing in the cognitive radio (CR) networks of opportunistic unlicensed spectrum access. The cognitive radios can perform a communication using the incumbent user spectrum band without the interference caused by the cognitive radio users. In this case, the cognitive radios must know the real-time radio environments of the incumbent user spectrum band using the spectrum sensing, beacon signal, and geo-location database access. Then in this paper, we are going to provide spectrum sensing issues which include the sensing techniques, the regulatory requirements, the analysis of DTV detection threshold, and main considerations associated with the spectrum sensing design in cognitive radio systems. Also, this paper introduces design trade-offs in order to optimize the sensing parameters such as sensing time and sensing complexity.

  • As digital and computer technologies have grown, human-machine interfaces (HMIs) have evolved. In safety-critical systems, especially in nuclear power plants (NPPs), HMIs are important for reducing operational costs, the number of necessary operators, and the probability of accident occurrence. Efforts have been made to improve main control room (MCR) interface design and to develop automated or decision support systems to ensure convenient operation and maintenance. In this paper, an integrated decision support system to aid operator cognitive processes is proposed for advanced MCRs of future NPPs. This work suggests the design concept of a decision support system which accounts for an operator's cognitive processes. The proposed system supports not only a particular task, but also the entire operation process based on a human cognitive process model. In this paper, the operator's operation processes are analyzed according to a human cognitive process model and appropriate support systems that support each cognitive process activity are suggested.

개별성-관계성 및 인지적 유연성과 팀 창의성의 관계: 설계 관련 교과목의 협동학습 사례를 중심으로 (Relationships among Individuality-Relatedness, Cognitive Flexibility, and Team Creativity in Engineering Design)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationships among team individuality-relatedness, cognitive flexibility and team creativity. A total of 313 engineering college students who organized 64 teams were assessed on individuality-relatedness scale, cognitive flexibility scale, and team creativity. Relatedness and cognitive flexibility had significant main effects on team creativity. There was a significant interaction between individuality and cognitive flexibility to explain team creativity beyond individuality alone. Finally, limitations of this study and suggestions for future studies were discussed.

보행속도변화에 따른 인지 과제 수행이 보행수 변동성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Cognitive Task on Stride Rate Variability by Walking Speeds)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of performing a cognitive task during treadmill walking on the stride rate variability. Ten university students(age $24.0{\pm}0.25$, height $172{\pm}3.1cm$, weight $66{\pm}5.3kg$) were participated in dual task experiments which consist of both walking alone and walking with a cognitive task. Two-back task was selected for the cognitive task since it did not have learning effect during the experimental procedure.3D motion analysis system was used to measure subject's position data by changing walking speed with 4.8, 5.6, 6.4, 6.8, and 7.2 km/hr. Stride rate was calculated by the time between heel contact and heel contact. Accuracy rate of a cognitive task during walking, coefficient of variance, allometric scaling methods and Fano factor were used to estimated the stride rate variability. As the walking speed increased, accuracy rate decreased and the logarithmic value of Fano factor increased which showed the statistical difference. Thus it can be concluded that the gait control mechanism is distracted by the secondary attention focus which is the cognitive task ie. two-back task. Further study is needed to clarify this by increasing the number of subject and experiment time.

A Fair Radio Resource Allocation Algorithm for Uplink of FBMC Based CR Systems

  • Spectrum scarcity seems to be the most challenging issue to be solved in new wireless telecommunication services. It is shown that spectrum unavailability is mainly due to spectrum inefficient utilization and inappropriate physical layer execution rather than spectrum shortage. Daily increasing demand for new wireless services with higher data rate and QoS level makes the upgrade of the physical layer modulation techniques inevitable. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) which utilizes multicarrier modulation to provide higher data rates with the capability of flexible resource allocation, although has widely been used in current wireless systems and standards, seems not to be the best candidate for cognitive radio systems. Filter Bank based Multi-Carrier (FBMC) is an evolutionary scheme with some advantages over the widely-used OFDM multicarrier technique. In this paper, we focus on the total throughput improvement of a cognitive radio network using FBMC modulation. Along with this modulation scheme, we propose a novel uplink radio resource allocation algorithm in which fairness issue is also considered. Moreover, the average throughput of the proposed FBMC based cognitive radio is compared to a conventional OFDM system in order to illustrate the efficiency of using FBMC in future cognitive radio systems. Simulation results show that in comparison with the state of the art two algorithms (namely, Shaat and Wang) our proposed algorithm achieves higher throughputs and a better fairness for cognitive radio applications.

Instrument Panel에 대한 중년 운전자 인지지도 형상 추출 및 실제 차량 형상과의 비교에 관한 연구 (The study of the extraction of middle-aged driver's cognitive map on the Instrument Panel and comparison with the real vehicle)

  • Ergonomic vehicle design is very important for driver's safety and sensibility. Many studies have emphasized the physical factors of human operator and usability of control devices. However, driver's cognitive factors such as the shape of cognitive map have not been well documented. The aim of this research is to find the relationship between the shape of Instrument Pane (IP) in driver's cognitive map and the real vehicle. To do this, Sketch Map Method (SMM), that is an extraction method of cognitive map, was employed to extract the shape of middle-aged driver's cognitive map. In this study, SMM was modified to formulate driver's cognitive map because this process is not being in the existing SMM. Next, correlation was analyzed between individual cognitive map and the shape of real vehicle's IP. The result showed that the position of volume control switch and cigar jack was similar between these but the position of others wasn't.

  • In this study, the application of fuzzy hierarchical analysis for modeling the inspection tasks with respect to the the improtances of the cognitive factors is considered and it's validity in cognitive researches is confirmed. The results of the relative importance of various cognitive factors can be served as a selection criteria for efficient inspection performance and the information of skilled learning for a inspection training program.
