  • This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine whether food intake is effective in preventing diseases related to cognitive impairment. We searched English databases namely MEDLINE, PubMed and ScienceDirect from 2000 to May 2020, and Korean databases namely RISS, KISS, and DBPIA from 1990 to May 2020. We divided the data into 15 groups using the food group classification of the Korean Nutrition Society (KNS). The effect size (Cohen's d) was estimated using a random-effect model, and a 95% confidence interval was calculated for each study. We included 17 cross-sectional studies and 7 cohort studies which involved 45,115 participants. As a result of analyzing the subgroups in the Asian population of both sexes, it was observed that grain intake has a protective effect against cognitive impairment. For females, pulses and fish also have a protective role against cognitive impairment. In the case of seaweed, a negative relationship was found with a moderate protective effect against cognitive impairment (Cohen's d:-0.533, 95% CI: -0.939, -0.126; p=0.010) in Korean studies. Dairy products are associated with an increased risk of cognitive impairment in the American and European population but drinking alcohol is associated with a lower impairment risk. These results provide a basis for formulating the dietary guidelines for preventing dementia for each country.

  • This study aims to explore cognitive biases relating the core competences of science and instructional strategy in reducing the level of cognitive biases. The literature review method was used to explore cognitive biases and science education experts discussed the relevance of cognitive biases to science education. Twenty nine cognitive biases were categorized into five groups (limiting rational causal inference, limiting diverse information search, limiting self-regulated learning, limiting self-directed decision making, and category-limited thinking). The cognitive biases in limiting rational causal inference group are teleological thinking, availability heuristic, illusory correlation, and clustering illusion. The cognitive biases in limiting diverse information search group are selective perception, experimenter bias, confirmation bias, mere thought effect, attentional bias, belief bias, pragmatic fallacy, functional fixedness, and framing effect. The cognitive biases in limiting self-regulated learning group are overconfidence bias, better-than-average bias, planning fallacy, fundamental attribution error, Dunning-Kruger effect, hindsight bias, and blind-spot bias. The cognitive biases in limiting self-directed decision-making group are acquiescence effect, bandwagon effect, group-think, appeal to authority bias, and information bias. Lastly, the cognitive biases in category-limited thinking group are psychological essentialism, stereotyping, anthropomorphism, and outgroup homogeneity bias. The instructional strategy to reduce the level of cognitive biases is disused based on the psychological characters of cognitive biases reviewed in this study and related science education methods.

  • Geriatric depression is associated with pathological changes in the brain and increases the risk of cognitive impairment or dementia. However, high cognitive reserve, such as high education, can delay or minimize clinical manifestations of pathologies involving the brain, so the effect of geriatric depression on cognitive impairment or dementia may vary depending on the education level. In this study, the author analyzed data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) to examine whether the effect of geriatric depression on cognitive function differed depending on education level. Among the 10,254 subjects registered in the KLoSA, the 4,905 subjects who met the inclusion criteria were analyzed by stepwise regression analysis. The results were as follows: first, depressive symptoms predicted low cognitive function after 12 years; second, the negative effect of depressive symptoms on cognitive function after 12 years was higher in the old adult group than in the young adult group; and third, the effect of age was significant only in the low-educated group. These results suggest that depressive symptoms in low-educated old adults may increase the risk of development of dementia in the long term.

  • So far, there have been studies to verify the effectiveness of creative advertising contents, but there have been few studies explaining why creative advertisement contents are effective in consumer cognitive processes. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of creativity of ad contents on desire to postpone cognitive closure and ad attitude. Furthermore, the cause of the advertising effect of the creative advertisement contents was set as disfluency and the relationship between the related variables was verified. Research has shown that creative advertising does not directly produce positive advertising attitudes, but it also forms ad attitudes through mediating effects of disfluency. In addition, it was found that disfluency mediated the desire to postpone cognitive closure in creative advertising. In summary, this study finds that the disfluency of advertising is an important variable for enhancing the advertising effect of creative advertisement. This study verified the advertising effect of creative advertisement by connecting it with consumers' cognitive variables.

  • The cognitive rehabilitation training is important for treating many cognitive impairment conditions, including Parkinson's disease, stroke, and ADHD. In this study, we developed a new evaluation system to improve the measurement of the conventional evaluation systems for cognitive rehabilitation training. The developed system measured the activity of dopamine(DA) and an autonomic nervous system(ANS) with photoplethysmography and electromyography. The results demonstrated that the cognitive capacity was increased but the activity of DA was decreased with unbalanced ANS by short-term stress. Based on the results, the effect of short-term stress should be recognized for the cognitive rehabilitation training.

  • An investigation of the effect of occupational information on vocational cognitive complexity was conducted with 331 male and female adolescents in ninth grade. There were 2 experimental groups and 1 control group. Experimental group I was given only occupational information sheets (written form information) while group II was given occupational information through verbal instruction in addition to the occupational information sheets. A modified form of the cognitive complexity grid originally developed by Bodden (1970) was utilized to collect data on the subjects' vocational cognitive complexity. ANOVA and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ tests revealed that there were significant differences between experimental group II and the other groups in vocational cognitive complexity. The cognitive complexity level of experimental group I and the control group for the most aspired occupation was significantly lower than for the least aspired occupation. However, the cognitive complexity level of experimental group II for the most aspired occupation was higher than for the least aspired occupation. The results suggest that just giving occupational information to adolescents may not be effective and giving occupational information may be effective only when the method of giving occupational information is active enough to induce adolescents' self-confirming cognitive process.

  • Objectives: This study examined how adolescents' cognitive stress relates to suicidal thought, thereby offering basic data about social and institutional ways to reduce adolescent suicide. Methods: In this study, data from an online survey on adolescents' health conducted by Korea Center for Disease Control(2013, 9th) was used after altering it to fit the purpose of the study. The data was analysed using the complex sampling method and structural equation model(SEM). Results: Whilst adolescents' cognitive stress had positive effects on suicidal thought, problem drinking and cognitive depression, it had a negative effect on physical activity. The structural equation model from cognitive stress, problem drinking, cognitive depression, physical activity influenced suicidal thought. Problem drinking on the other hand had an influence on cognitive depression. Conclusion: These findings suggest that future intervention programs for prevention of adolescents' suicidal thought should also address problem drinking, cognitive depression, and cognitive stress.

  • Companies have attempted to build a rational and future-oriented new personnel system in order to adapt and survive in a rapidly changing environment. Recently, Samsung, LG, SK, and CJ, which are large domestic corporations, have been introducing new types of simplified personnel systems competitively. Although there are several prior studies that tried to classify these simplified personnel systems from a strategic point of view, there is a lack of empirical research in terms of the specific types from the perspective of employees. Therefore, in this study, an empirical study on the simplified personnel system which has currently been highlighted was carried out. The relationship between perceived justice (i.e., distributive justice and procedural justice) and organizational effectiveness (i.e., organizational commitment and innovative behavior) were tested. In addition, the mediating role of cognitive attitude as well as the moderating role of cognitive intensity in the simplified personnel system were investigated. The results of structural equation model using 157 survey data show that both distributive and procedural justice have a positive effect on cognitive attitude toward the simplified personnel system, which in turn leads to increased organizational commitment and innovative behavior. Interestingly, it is found that cognitive intensity intensifies the effect of distributive justice on cognitive attitude, whereas it attenuates the influence of procedural justice as expected. This study is among one of the first empirical studies focusing on the simplified personnel system and expands the concept of related variables such as perceived justice, cognitive attitude, and cognitive intensity in this context. Moreover, by clarifying the causal relationship between perceived justice and organizational effectiveness through the roles of cognitive attitude and cognitive intensity, it could provide several practical implications to managers who are interested in the introduction and early settlement of simplified personnel systems in a successful manner.

  • This study has examined the effect of cognitive resource on purchase intention of scarcity products according to the level of need for cognitive closure. In order to find out the effect on purchase intention for products that are presented a shopping environment is supposed, where various timing of consumer promotion reward exist, and where consumers can easily access and experience a lot of cognitive changes. the effect of how these two influences are adjusted according to the level of need for cognitive closure (NFCC). The study divide into two experiments. Research analyzes the behavioral differences of consumers for scarcity message products according to cognitive resource level with a moderating effect of NFCC. As a result of the study, Research according to the level of cognitive resource, when applied scarcity message product showed a negative effect of the cognitive resource (self-regulating resource) depletion level on the purchase intention of high-involvement product with scarcity message (Hypothesis 1). Consumers' purchase intention for limited products was higher at the non-depleted level than at the cognitive resource depletion level, and this difference was found statistically significant. Next, as a result of examining the difference according to the level of NFCC, the difference in the influence of cognitive resource level on purchase intention of scarcity products was found to be statistically significant where the NFCC was low (Hypothesis 2).
