  • Image coding based on fractal theory presents highly compressed image. In this paper, we discuss about compression of Image using HV partition method. HV partition scheme devides the image adaptively in horizontal and vertical axis. And for reducing the enconding time for the domain-range comparison, we use classification scheme, which uses the order of brightness of the rectangular portion of the image. This paper focused on the technique to reduce coding time which is a problem in traditional fractal compression by adaptive selection of image and its classification method.

  • In this paper we present a novel method of applying image scrambling technology which belongs to the information hiding field in the error control coding to introduce confidentiality in wireless machine to machine communication. The interleaver in serial concatenated convolutional codes, which is the key module in overcoming burst errors, is deliberately designed with the scrambling function to provide a low error rate for those authorized transceivers. By contrast, the unauthorized transceivers without keys would get so high an error rate that decoding bits could bring little value, thus realizing both the confidentiality and reliability in wireless machine to machine communication.

  • In this paper we have designed and implemented a real-time, full-duplex SBC (sub-band coding) codec at 16kbps using a high speed digital signal processor, NEC 7720. The SBC codec employs a QMF(quadrature mirror filter) filter bank based on the tree structures of two-band analysis-synthesis pairs to partition speech signal into 4 octabe bands. Computer simulation has been done to investigate the effect of fixed-point computation of the NEC 7720. Three different performance measures, the conventional signal-to-noise ratio, the informal listening test, and an LPC(linear predictive coding)distance measure, have been used in this simulation. The necessary parameters have been optimized through the simulation. The developed hardware and software have been tested in real-time operation using a hardware emulator.

  • In this paper, we present a new approach based on an elitist genetic algorithm for the task of aligning the position of a robot gripper using CCD cameras. The vision-based control scheme for the task of aligning the gripper with the desired position is implemented by image information. The relationship between the camera space location and the robot joint coordinates is estimated using a camera-space parameter modal that generalizes known manipulator kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation. To find the joint angles of a robot manipulator for reaching the target position in the image space, we apply an elitist genetic algorithm instead of a nonlinear least square error method. Since GA employs parallel search, it has good performance in solving optimization problems. In order to improve convergence speed, the real coding method and geometry constraint conditions are used. Experiments are carried out to exhibit the effectiveness of vision-based control using an elitist genetic algorithm with a real coding method.

  • Since the high readable source codes help us to understand and modify the program, it is much easy to maintain them. The readability of source code is not only affected by the complexity of algorithms such as control structures but also affected by the coding styles such as naming and indentation. Although various coding standards have been presented for promoting the readability of source codes, it has been usually lost or ignored in a programming course. One of the reasons is that the coding standard is not a hard-and-false rule since it does not contribute to the performance of software. In this paper, we propose a simple automatic system, namely StyleJigsaw, which checks the style of the source codes written by C/C++ or Java. In this system, the coding style score is calculated and visualized as a jigsaw puzzle. To measure the educational effectiveness of StyleJigsaw, several experiments have been conducted on a class students in C++ programming course. According to the experimental results, the coding style score increased about 8.0 points(10.9%) on average using StyleJigsaw. Further, according to a questionnaire survey targeting the students who attended the programming course, about 88.5% of the students responded that StyleJigsaw was of help to learn the coding standards. We expect that the StyleJigsaw can be effectively used to encourage the students to obey the coding standards, resulting in high readable programs.

  • In this paper we exploit the use of the intermittent property of speech to reduce the transmission rate or to increase signal-to-quantization noise ratio (SQNR) in coding speech by hybrid companding data modulation (HCDM). In this scheme we detect silence in speech by a speech/silence discriminator. HCDM coding is done only for speech portion. For silence that is detected in evert block of 5 ms, only the information indicating that the Since the HCDM coder transmits bina교 signal synchronously at a fixed rate, the use of a buffer and its efficient control is essential. By using the HCDM with silence detection in coding speech, we could improve SONR by as much as 6 dB over the conventional HCDM or reduce the transmission rate by one third of the HCDM rate.

  • Triatoma rubrofasciata is a wide-spread vector of Chagas disease in Americas. In this study, we completed the mitochondrial genome sequencing of T. rubrofasciata. The total length of T. rubrofasciata mitochondrial genome was 17,150 bp with the base composition of 40.4% A, 11.6% G, 29.4% T and 18.6% C. It included 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and one control region. We constructed a phylogenetic tree on the 13 protein-coding genes of T. rubrofasciata and other 13 closely related species to show their phylogenic relationship. The determination of T. rubrofasciata mitogenome would play an important role in understanding the genetic diversity and evolution of triatomine bugs.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct a substantive theory that described and explained how pregnant women are seeking information in context of pregnancy. A qualitative design based on the method of grounded theory was utilized. In-depth interviews were conducted with 16 pregnant women, selected by theoretical sampling who receiving antenatal care 3 different university hospitals. The interview data were transcribed and systematically analyzed according to the open coding, axial coding and selective coding. 'Increasing Sense of Self-Control over Pregnancy' was the core category for describing and guiding the process of seeking information during the pregnancy. To construct a theory of 'Increasing Sense of Self-Control over Pregnancy' in this study, eight hypothetical statement were generated from the relationships among the core category and the other categories, thus four patterns were derived as follows: 'Desperately Seeking', 'Actively Seeking', 'Unconcernedly Seeking', 'Resignedly Seeking'. The implications of the findings are discussed in terms of development of LIS theory in Korea, theory development of information behavior, education for LIS, and information service practice. The suggestions for further research are provided.

  • A bit-rate controller that can achieve a constant bit rate when coding object-based video sequences is an important part to achieve an adaptation to bit-rate constraints, desired video quality, distribution of bits among objects, relationship between texture and shape coding, and determination of frame skip or not. Therefore we design content-based bit rate controller which will be used for relevant bit-rate control. The implementation is an extension of MPEG-4 rate control algorithm which employs a quadratic rate-quantizer model. The importance of different objects in a video is analyzed and segmented into a number of VOPs which are adaptively bit-allocated using the object-based modelling. Some test sequences are observed by a number of non-experts and interests in each object are analysed. The initial total target bit-rate for all objects is obtained by using the proposed technique. Then the total target bits are jointly analyzed for preventing from overflow or underflow of the buffer fullness. The target bits are distributed to each object in view of its importance, not only of statistical analysis such as motion vector magnitude, size of object shape, and coding distortion of previous frame. The scheme is compared with the rate controller adopted by the MPEG-4 VM8 video coder by representing their statistics and performance.

  • Genetic determinant for the secondary metabolism was studied in heterologous expression in Streptomyces lividans TK-24 using Streptomyces griseus ATCC 10137 as a donor strain. Chromosomal DNA of S. griseus was ligated into the high-copy number Streptomyces shuttle plasmid, pWHM3, and introduced into S. lividans TK-24. A plasmid clone with 4.3-kb BamHI DNA of S. griseus (pMJJ201) was isolated by detecting for stimulatory effect on actinorhodin production by visual inspection. The 4.3-kb BamHI DNA was cloned into pWHM3 under the control of the strong constitutive ermEp promoter in both directions (pMJJ202); ermEp promoter-mediated transcription for coding sequence reading right to left: pMJJ203; ermEp promoter-mediated transcription for coding sequence reading left to right) and reintroduced into S. lividans TK-24. The production of actinorhodin was markedly stimulated due to introduction of pMJJ202 on regeneration agar. The introduction of pMJJ202 also stimulated production of actinorhodin and undecylproidigiosin in submerged culture employing the actinorhodin production medium. Introduction of pMJJ203 resulted in a marked decrease of production of the two pigments. Nucleotide sequence analysis of the 4.3-kb region revealed three coding sequences: two coding sequences reading left to right, ORF1 and ORF2, one coding sequence reading right to left, ORF3. Therefore, it was suggested that the ORF3 product was responsible for the stimulation of antibiotic production. The C-terminal region of ORF3 product showed a local alignment with Myb-related transcriptional factors, which implicated that the ORF3 product might be a novel DNA-binding protein related to the regulation of secondary metabolism in Streptomyces.
