  • We presented a channel model for the inter vehicle radio link including the reflection from the road surface, side road vehicle and concrete wall. Then we theoretically derived the path loss and delay profile characteristics using the Ray tracing method efficiently analyzing millimeter wave or optic wave. Finally, we shown the improvement of propagation characteristics by diversity techniques, BCH coding and convolution coding techniques. At the result, MRC diversity techniques and BCH coding can't obtained PER = $10^{-6}$ which is considered to be data service criterion. But, we knew that Packet Error Rate Characteristic can obtained PER = $10^{-6}$, which is considered to be data service criterion, when convolution coding scheme are adopted in Rician fading.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of transmitter and receiver of W-CDMA system using the channel coding and space time code in downlink over ITU-R realistic channel model. We can improve the reliability of communications and increase the data rate by channel coding, and we can get a diversity gain by using the space time code over fading channels. We also apply the RAKE receiver to improve tile performance in multi-Path fading channel environment.

  • Communication systems, including cell-based mobile communication systems, multiple satellite communication systems of multi-beam satellite systems, require reliable handoff methods between cell-to-cell, satellite-to-satellite of beam-to-team, respectively. Recent measurement of a CDMA cellular system indicates that the system is in handoff at about 35% to 70% of an average call period. Therefore, system reliability during handoff is one of the major system performance parameters and eventually becomes a factor in the overall system capacity. This paper presents novel and improved techniques for handoff in cellular communications, multi-beam and multi-satellite systems that require handoff during a session. this new handoff system combines the soft handoff mechanism currently implemented in the IS-95 CDMA with code and packet diversity combining techniques and an iterative decoding algorithm (Turbo Coding). the Turbo code introduced by Berrou et all. has been demonstrated its remarkable performance achieving the near Shannon channel capacity [1]. Recently. Turbo codes have been adapted as the coding scheme for the data transmission of the third generation international cellular communication standards : UTRA and CDMA 2000. Our proposed encoder and decoder schemes modified from the original Turbo code is suitable for the code and packet diversity combining techniques. this proposed system provides not only an unprecedented coding gain from the Turbo code and it iterative decoding, but also gain induced by the code and packet diversity combining technique which is similar to the hybrid Type II ARQ. We demonstrate performance improvements in AWGN channel and Rayleigh fading channel with perfect channel state information (CSI) through simulations for at low signal to noise ratio and analysis using exact upper bounding techniques for medium to high signal to noise ratio.

  • One of the most significant characteristics of JPEG 2000, the emerging still image standards, is the Region of Interest(ROI) coding. Until now, there have been many proposed ROI methods. However, all of these methods can not be applied completely in applications. In this paper, the ROI coding mechanisms in JPEG2000 is first outlined and the diversity of ROI coding methods is discussed in detail. Then a comparative selection about using a proper ROI method according to ROI applications' requirements is proposed. Finally the experimental results show that there are also several parameters that control the effectiveness of ROI coding, such as the codeblock size, ROI size, wavelet filter type, the number of wavelet decomposition levels, and ROI importance score.

  • In this paper, forward error control coding in multicarrier direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems is considered. In order to accommodate a number of coding rates easily and make the encoder and do-coder structure simple, we use the rate compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) code. We obtain data throughputs at several coding rates and choose the coding rate which has the highest data throughput in the SINR sense. To achieve maximum data throughput, a rate adaptive system using channel state information (the SINR estimate) is proposed. The SINR estimate is obtain by the soft decision Viterbi decoding metric. We show that the proposed rate adaptive convolutionally coded multicarrier DS/CDMA system can enhance spectral efficiency and provide frequency diversity.

  • In this paper, we propose a concatenated diversity system to assure the data transmission reliability between flight type air nodes which move according to their atypical orbit, then its performance is analyzed using computer simulation and it is designed with hdl. The proposed system cannot only improve a bandwidth efficient and coding gain from diversity TCM code but also the reliability of data transmission is high. From the computer simulation result about bit error rate(BER) of the proposed system, we confirm that its BER performance is about 11dB greater than TCM code at $10^{-2}$ and about 11dB greater than space time block code at $10^{-3}$ which has a full diversity gain. In addition, when we compare its BER performance with space time trellis code which has both a diversity gain and a coding gain, the performance of the proposed system is greater than about 1.5dB at $10^{-5}$. Lastly, after designing the proposed system with HDL, we can confirm that the operation result is correct.

  • In the communications systems with diversity, we are commonly faced on needing of new source coding technique, error resilient coding. The error resilient coding addresses the coding algorithm that has the robustness to unreliability of communications channel. In recent years, many error resilient coding techniques were proposed such as data partitioning, resynchronization, error detection, concealment, reference picture selection and multiple description coding (MDC). Especially, the MDC using correlating transform explicitly adds correlation between two descriptions to enable the estimation of one set from the other. However, in the conventional correlating transform method, there is a critical problem that decoder must know statistics of original image. In this paper, we propose an enhanced method, the MDC using whitening transform that is not necessary additional statistical information to decode image because the DCT coefficients to apply whitening transform to an image have uni-variance statistics. Our experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a good trade-off between the coding efficiency and the reconstruction quality. In the proposed method, the PSNR of images reconstructed from two descriptions is about 0.7dB higher than conventional method at the 1.0 BPP and from only one description is about 1,8dB higher at the same rate.

  • Space-time block codes (STBC) have no coding gain but they provide a full diversity gain with relatively low encoder/decoder complexity. Therefore, STBC should be concatenated with an outer code which provides an additional coding gain. In this paper, we consider the concatenation of multiple trellis-coded modulation (MTCM) codes with STBC for achieving significant coding gain with full antenna diversity. Using criteria of equal transmit power, spectral efficiency and the number of trellis states, the performance of concatenated scheme is compared to that of previously known space-time trellis codes (STTC) in terms of frame error rate (FER). Simulation results show that MTCM codes concatenated with STBC offer better performance on fast Rayleigh fading channels, than previously known STTC with two transmit antennas and one receive antenna.

  • In this work, we study the performance of a serial concatenated scheme comprising a convolutional code (CC) and an orthogonal space-time block code (STBC) separated by an inter-leaver. Specifically, we derive performance bounds for this concatenated scheme, clearly quantify the impact of using a CC in conjunction with a STBC, and compare that to using a STBC code only. Furthermore, we examine the impact of performing antenna selection at the receiver on the diversity order and coding gain of the system. In performing antenna selection, we adopt a selection criterion that is based on maximizing the instantaneous signal-tonoise ratio (SNR) at the receiver. That is, we select a subset of the available receive antennas that maximizes the received SNR. Two channel models are considered in this study: Fast fading and quasi-static fading. For both cases, our analyses show that substantial coding gains can be achieved, which is confirmed through Monte-Carlo simulations. We demonstrate that the spatial diversity is maintained for all cases, whereas the coding gain deteriorates by no more than $10\;log_{10}$ (M / L) dB, all relative to the full complexity multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system.
