  • The developing countries have a lot of dormant resources, attempting the take-off of economic growth. The theory of 'vent for surplus' and Lewis model provide a good cornerstones to analyze the effect of export, FDI and domestic production on employment. This paper attempts to do empirical test to figure out what factor is significant as the determinant of Chinese employment. For this test, the estimation equations are derived from the Cobb-Douglas production function. The results are that the domestic production affects the most positive employment, compared to FDI and export. Unlikely general expectation, export doesn't have an substantial effect on employment in China. It is also found that the absorption of technology through export is lower than that of FDI in terms of the effect of technology on employment. So it is suggested that the employment policy should be shifted toward the increase of domestic production by using FDI rather than by promoting export industry. to reduce the internal imbalance.

  • In recent business environments, the competition among firms is shifting from the competition based on individual firm only to the competition based on alliance of firms. This is because it is not easy for a firm to perform all functions which consumers want. Thus, it is more effective to combine core competencies of different firms based on a strategic partnership. It is essential to establish a strategic partnership and this strategic partnership is a key success factor in PSS(Product-Service System) which combines products and services. In this paper, we propose a profit sharing model for PSS partnership. We first analyze customer's utility using Cobb-Douglas utility function and then propose the PSS profit sharing ratio considering functionalities and cost structures based on the combination ratio of PSS. This paper helps firms to develop partnership strategies for PSS.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the technical efficiency and its determinants for Korean Apiculture farming by using from door to door and e-mail inquiry data. The analysis was implemented through the Cobb-Douglas stochastic frontier production function (SFPF) model including the technical inefficiency effect model for cross-sectional data. To measure the SFPF model, honey production was used for a dependent variable, and for input variables labor cost, preventive cost, material cost, feeding cost, depreciation cost were used. Farmer's age, farmer's career, farming scale, full-time or half-time firm and movement or fixed firm variables were used to measure the inefficiency effect model. The average technical efficiency on apiculture farming in Korea is estimated to be 0.8112. It means that there were technical inefficiency of about 18.88% in Korea apiculture farming. In this study there are some suggestions which could increase the technical efficiency of Korean apiculture farming.

  • Industrial water supplied by water resource project is essential input materials along with labor, capital and land for companies. It is very important to stably secure these input materials in order for the industry to generate additional values. If the supply of industrial water is stopped, it is known damage for the industry is greater than domestic water or agriculture water based on same amount of supply. Like this, the actual value of industrial water has been highly acknowledged from the intuitive perspective, but study on the value and benefits of industrial water has been rarely conducted. Therefore, this study verified the value of industrial water supplied from water resource project, and used marginal production value as a measure to estimate the benefits of industrial water in the analysis of economic efficiency. As a result of empirical analysis using Cobb-Douglas production function and Translog production function, industries' average marginal production value was $5,427KRW/m^3$ and $5,583KRW/m^3$ respectively. The marginal production value for eleven industries were estimated by using same method. The marginal production value by industries presented by this study will be used as important data to calculate benefits of industrial water in the future. Moreover, the result of this study will provide reasonable criteria for decision making on the allocation of water in emergency situation, and problem of resource supply from water resource project.

  • The main objective of this study is to analysis the relationship between productivity measurement model which describe and explain R&D(Research & Development) productivity based on production function of Cobb-Douglas and the structure of the R&D investment. The model focuses on the variables related to R&D investment in order to measure the efficiency of R&D largely. So, the proposed model describe the relationship between output(or / input) and factors of production such as capital cost, labor cost and R&D expense, etc. These factors are associated with a signigicant positive correlation between productivity and R&D investment.

  • This paper examines measures of technical efficiency in off-shore fishery based on a frontier production function model of the Cobb-Douglas type. Technical efficiency ranges between 57.13 and 98.62 percent. The results suggest that the highest TE in the industry is the trawl. Also, this analysis shows that Busan's Danish seine fishery has a maximum TE. Angling in Gangwon has a minimum TE. Empirical measures of technical efficiency in this study can be useful in analyzing the potential effects of policies designed to deal with the current fishery industry.

  • Based on the survey on aquaculture management status in Nohwa-eup, Bogil-myeon, Wando-eup in Wando region, this study aimed to estimate productive efficiencies of abalone aquaculture production using a stochastic frontier approach (SFA) and to find out their determinants. In the analysis, a Cobb-Douglas production function with an inefficiency term that follows an halfnormal distribution was assumed for the estimation of productive efficiencies. Then, based on the outcomes of productive efficiencies, determinants of productive efficiency were investigated using a tobit regression model. Results showed that the average inefficiency was estimated to be 10% and the production size would be a statistically significant variable for the production. In addition, it was shown that the cage installing method would be an important factor affecting to the level of productive efficiency.

  • This paper empirically estimates gains from capital inflow to a regional ecomomy. It will be a usefulc for indicator for a local government to build a policy for attracting capital. We estimate the respective Cobb-Douglas production function for 11 provinces of Korea, derive its marginal productivity of capital, and then calculate the amount of capital moved between two provinces and gains from the capital movement. With no barriers to capital movement, there would be a strong motive for capital inflow to Seoul, Pusan, and Kyungki, whereas capital outflow would be expected in Chonnam, Chungbuk, Chungnam, and Kyungbuk. The ratio of gains from capital movement to the regional domestic from capital movement to the regional domestic product(RDP) is high in Cheju, Kangwon, Chungbuk, and so on. It turns out that capital flows from an area with lower productivity of capital to one with hihger productivity. This implies that if the local government of an underdeveloped region wants to lure capital investment from outside, it needs to provide it with strong incentives of eax reduction and special loans.

  • This paper considers three different models with two functional forms, Cobb-Douglas and Translog, for the stochastic frontier production function of food manufacturing industry of Bangladesh over the period 1981-1982 to 1999-2000. The models are proposed by Battese and Coelli (1992, 1995) and Huang and Liu (1994). The technical efficiency, total factor productivity, technological change and technical efficiency change have been estimated in the frontier models. The results indicate that 41.47%, 59.30% and 70.98% of the potential output are being realized in this sector. The mean increments in total factor productivity are approximately 2%, 9% and 4% respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate regional economic effects of spatial diffusion of wildfire using Cobb-Douglas production function of agriculture and forestry. The analysis is applied to Gangwon and Gyeongbuk provinces where are the most damaged of wildfire in Korea. The damaged areas are derived from multiplied by the occurrence probability of wildfire and diffusion areas of wildfire for micro-spatial unit level with ArcGIS techniques. The models of wildfire provides that the spatial diffusion of wildfire increases with the rising of highest temperature and average wind speed. Through the production function, value added of Agriculture and Forest sectors get damaged where the Cos-converted slope aspect of mountains are toward the South. The production model provides reductions of regional value added by increasing damaged areas of wildfire. It reveals that the most damaged region is Andong city in Gyeongbuk province, where value added loss is 1.25 billion Won, which is about 0.72% of total value added in agriculture and forestry of the city. As a view of policy makers, it needs to be considered to establish prevention policies against wildfires because regional economic losses from wildfire are depending on geographical conditions and performances of the major industry related to wildfire's diffusion such as agriculture or tourism sector according to the result of analysis.
