  • This paper describes process optimization for thermal-sprayed Co-based self-flux alloy coating by Taguchi method. Co-based self-flux alloy coatings were fabricated according to $L_9(3^4)$ orthogonal array using flame spray process. Hardness test and wear test were performed, the results were analyzed by analysis of variance(ANOVA) considering a multi response signal to noise ratio(MRSN). From the results of ANOVA, the optimal combination of the flame spray parameters on Co-based self-flux alloy coating could be predicted. The calculated hardness and wear rate of the coatings by ANOVA were found to be close to that of confirmation experimental result.

  • For the purpose of improving the hot corrosion resistance of Ni-base superalloy, Inconel 600, aluminide and chromium-aluminide coatings by pack cementation process were studied. The morphology of these coatings is dependent on the type of process employed. And their overall composition depends on the composition of the base alloy and on the nature of the cement. Therefore the different aluminide and chromium-aluminide coatings obtained on a superalloy do not possess the same resistance to oxidation and hot corrosion. The mechanisms governing the formation of the coatings and the composition of the coating were varied by pack composition and temperature, and cyclic hot corrosion resistance of the auluminide coating formed by one-step process was inferior to that of the coating formed by two-step process. and Cr-Al composite coating showed good resistance for cyclic hot corrosion.

  • A study on the TiN coating layer in small holes on the Purpose of die-casting dies application has been performed with a PACVD process. For the hole having diameter of 4 mm. the uniform TiN coating layer in the hole to the depth of 20 mm was achieved using DC pulsed power source. To understand the forming mechanism of TiN coating layer, plasma diagnosis on Ti, $N_{2}^{+}$ and A $r^{+}$ emissions was carried out during plasma coaling process by optical emirssion spectroscopy. When the duty ratio was equal or over 50%, the Peaks of Ti,$ N_{2}^{+}$ and A $r^{+}$ emission were obviously observed. While duty ratio was equal or under 28.6%, no peaks for Ti, $N_{2}^{+}$ and A $r^$ were observed and the formation of TiN coating layer was rarely observed. For the coating in 4 mm hole diameter, the coating layer with bipolar process was two times deeper than that with unipolar process.

  • In this paper, front color glass for Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system was implemented by spin coating method using color solution. Solutions suitable for color solutions were investigated using pearlescent pigments and various solutions to implement color glass. One of investigated solutions, NOA 63 and NOA 65, which are ultraviolet light curing agents, were able to implement color glass with superior coating properties and color reproducibility than other solutions. Color glass realized by spin coating with a NOA 65 based color solution showed high transmittance of 86% in the visible and near-infrared wavelength bands, and the change in optical properties of color glass over time was insignificant, making it a suitable material for realizing color glass for BIPV Suitable as a color solution. The solution process method using the spin coating method is expected to facilitate the manufacturing process of front color glass for BIPV as it can produce color glass more easily and quickly than the existing physical deposition method or color glass manufacturing process using nanoparticles.

  • High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) thermal spray coating of nano size WC-Co powder (nWC-Co) has been studied as one of the most promising candidate for the possible replacement of the traditional hard plating in some area which causes environmental and health problems. nWC-Co powder was coated on Inconel 718 substrates by HVOF technique. The optimal coating process obtained from the best surface properties such as hardness and porosity is the process of oxygen flow rate (FR) 38 FMR, hydrogen FR 57 FMR and feed rate 35 g/min at spray distance 6 inch for both surface temperature $25^{\circ}C\;and\;500^{\circ}C$. In coating process a small portion of hard WC decomposes to less hard $W_2C$, W and C at the temperature higher than its decomposition temperature $1,250^{\circ}C$ resulting in hardness decrease and porosity increase. Friction coefficient increases with increasing coating surface temperature from 0.55-0.64 at $25^{\circ}C$ to 0.65-0.76 at $500^{\circ}C$ due to the increase of adhesion between coating and counter sliding surface. Hardness of nWC-Co is higher or comparable to those of other hard coatings, such as $Al_2O_3,\;Cr,\;Cr_2O_3$ and HVOF Tribaloy 400 (T400). This shows that nWC-Co is recommendable for durability improvement coating on machine components such as high speed spindle.

  • The demand for metal 3D printing technology is increasing in various industries. The materials commonly used for metal 3D printing include aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, and stainless steel. In particular, for applications in the aviation and defense industry, aluminum alloy 3D printing parts are being produced. To improve the corrosion resistance in the 3D printed aluminum alloy outputs, a post-treatment process, such as chromate coating, should be applied. However, powdered materials, such as AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg, used for 3D printing, have a high silicon content; therefore, a suitable pretreatment is required for chromate coating. In the desmut step of the pretreatment process, the chromate coating can be formed only when a smut composed of silicon compounds or oxides is effectively removed. In this study, suitable desmut solutions for 3D printed AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg materials with high silicon contents were presented, and the chromate coating properties were studied accordingly. The smut removal effect was confirmed using an aqueous desmut solution composed of sulfuric, nitric, and hydrofluoric acids. Thus, a chromate coating was successfully formed. The surfaces of the aluminum alloys after desmut and chromate coating were analyzed using SEM and EDS.

  • New immunoprotecting membranes were prepared by spin coating the amphiphilic random multiblock copolymers of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMEG) or poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) on porous Durapore(R) membrane. The copolymer coating was intended to make a biocompatible, immunoprotecting diffusional barrier and the supporting porous substrate was for mechanical stability and processability. By filling Durapore(R) membrane pores with water, the penetration of coating solution into the pores was minimized during the spin coating process. A single coating process produced a completely covered thin surface layer (~1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in thickness) on the porous substrate membrane. The permselectivity of the coated layer was influenced by PEG block length, polymer composition, and thickness of the coating layer. A composite membrane with the coating layer prepared with PEG 2 K/PTMEG 2 K block copolymer showed that its molecular weight cut-of fat any 40 based on dextran was close to the molecular size of IgG (Mw = 150 kDa). However, IgG permeation was detected from protein permeation test, while glucose oxidase (Mw = 186 kDa) was not permeable through the coated membrane.

  • Processing of low toughness graphite material requires high-speed machine tools and DLC coating. In this study, results of investigation of the tool wear and machining properties of the DLC coating according to the thickness, and the machining time of the tool used for the machining of graphite electrodes, were as follows. 1. DLC coating thickness shows a larger wear amount of the tool center in accordance with thickness; the wear amount of the tool increases in proportion to the machining time. 2. The difference between the amount of wear depending on the processing time shows edge portions larger than the tool wear amount in the center. This amount of wear of the tool edge is formed since the rotating torque is in contact with the graphite material surface significantly more than the central portion. 3. The thicker the DLC coating, the more the coating tool eliminated of the coating area by the interface between the cemented carbide tool being coated with an increased friction of the graphite material and the DLC coating area.
